NL5Haze x Zunami Test

Five out of the six testers survived and sprouted. They are still small, atm. So, not much to mention. I did water them with some kelp, micho's, and gnatrol at a PH of 6.9. They are in 3 parts Fox Farms Happy Frog with 1 part worm castings.

@Skuncle Lenny I'm glad the three made it. I'm sure they'll take off once they decide to.

Best wishes to everyone.

My girls are growing slower than usual. It’s 30 days since I 1st soaked and usually when I transplant into a 2 gallon, but I don’t feel that it’s needed yet. By now I should see roots through the bottom holes and I don’t. Main stem is rather thin and upper growth is slow. 4th plant via the cracked seed method didn’t make it.

I would say we have had very similar experiences so far @Skuncle Lenny.
I had a struggle with germination and ended up with three plants which look identical to yours - even down to difference in size between individual plants. Mine are however a little bigger overall by virtue of the fact they are a week or two ahead of yours. Yours all look like they are sativa leaning whereas I have one with more of an indica leaf pattern so far.
Are you noticing any funky incense smells in veg? I opened the tent a while ago and was greeted with a wonderful scent.
Happy growing.

No smells over here(other than my son's Bully)... It's interesting that we're having struggles with a new seed, but this is why we do projects, right???

So far I have had no success with germination. I soaked for 48 hrs and then into paper towels. 4 of the seeds split and showed a tail and 2 I cracked. Put them in Jiffy pods last Saturday and so far nothing has come up. Losing confidence at this point.

I was never good at sprouting so this is what i did last year to build on.
IMHO and another props to DR MJcoco

seeds only till they drop and some light sandpaper before they hit water. MJcoco has a good method, pm me for the link

Then my nature is to look and touch toooo often, so i use the DR method but apply the rule, no looking for the first 24 then every 12 hours after. I think i had problems by transferring the sprouts to soon causing shock, so my rule of thumb is at least 1/2 in of a tail, sometimes a little more.
thas the simple of it,
have everything the same, temp, mediums, using exactly the same water,
i just use distilled and the GH rooter something.
there's 'more i can say but I always believe in a strong but simple method that i can repeat, then i add wings to it as i learn more.

Words of wisdom
growing good weed is along game, if you learn from your actions it becomes a positive as you grow.
the best part as you go down this road you celebrate more and more from your lessons..

it was a good day and i'm happy
enjoy

How warm is the soil you sewed them into? Do you have a temp gun? I feel like this cross requires warmer germination temps than the other chemovars I've gotten from Mr. Nice.

I'm thinking the opposite. Thinking it may have been too warm on the heat mat and I've cooked them. Last germination was Black Widow and had 100%. Not sure how long I'll keep staring at the jiffy pods before admitting failure.

I'm in soil, and I'm sure our ambient temps and humidity were likely different. Either way, perhaps it requires a more dialed in enviroment for germination?

It's interesting that there are now three of us who have had germination issues with these new test seeds.
I guess part of the testing is to see how well they germinate and so far it looks like 50% or less success rate is the current outcome (based on the four known testers at this point - @The Flea = 3, @Skuncle Lenny = 3, @Diesel840 = 5, @Jonesie = 0, TOTAL = 45.8%).
It would make sense to assume that four experienced growers (some of whom are known for growing lots of seed plants) would experience a higher number collectively.
Definitely interesting so far.
Keep it green.

PM ME NOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN THIS TESTING. lol

I want to get this started soon. How about anyone interested let me know by PM your intention and what you would like to test. Thanks!

Glad to see the enthusiasm for old school meets new school!
It is the first project we are doing together and it is in its infancy. In fact you guys who put your names into the ring will be the first to cultivate these beans, so it is really imperative to be committed to doing a good strain review as it will be reviewed seriously from my side to see if there is merit to going forward. So far the collaboration with Ramone from Grounded Genetics (GG) has been totally up front and honest which is wonderful. GG has half the initial batch and their followers and friends are already busting open things, and from what I have seen it looks impressive. I saw a G13 x Zunami plant from one of their growers that looked very quick with intense resin production...leading me to feel confident it will be a great hash strain. But you never know until you have a go...!
So get your pm in so we can get this underway before the end of Jan and start 2024 with an adventure.

All the best Sb

Let keep the facts straight so this is not another weed story full of misinformation. It would be nice to be chosen but the fact is we volunteered and had to PM musashi stating our interest. Very different from being chosen. Also, this is not just R&D for Shantibaba, this is a collaboration with Ramone of Grounded Genetics. Think of it as testing fems for Ramone because that's what we are doing! lol Now, soldiers, let's get these fems going for Ramone! Some, if not all, of the genetics are Ramone's, That part has not been made clear. Of course, we are testing for Shantibaba too but let's not twist the story into we are special hand-picked growers doing R&D only for Shantibaba!

Hi all. Here is an update on my 5 Nl5HzZu. They are all humming along nicely. Their leaf structure is rather short and wide. Very indica looking leaves with smoother serrations, much different than the G13HzAC I'm also growing. They are a beautiful shade of green and have tripled in size since I began watering more and with kelp. I could have sworn I smelt a whiff of skittles like candy when I moved them into their new homes today. I tried and tried but couldn't find the smell again. Might have just been wishful thinking and not from the girls. They are rather young, after all. Here are the photos. Enjoy!

Hi MNS Family,
A quick update on the three Nl% HZ X Zunami that I am working with.
The plants were potted-up around 4 days ago and placed indoors under artificial light. Initial transplant and environmental shock has now passed and they are finding their true rhythm.

#1 has been bent as she is already showing some haze tendencies which may need to reined in a little. She still absolutely reeks of incense and haze. My pick so far based on structure and smell alone.

#2 is short and stocky and looks to be more indica dominant. She is starting to look the part. There is a definite smell to this lady as well though more dank than incense haze.

#3 looks to be halfway between #1 and #2 in terms of leaf shape and colour. This could be the dark horse of the group. I will be keeping a close eye on her as things progress.
