NL5Haze x Zunami Test

Well done @Skuncle Lenny.
Unfortunately, after cracking the seeds I have had no more 'action' so it looks like I will be running full steam ahead with the three I do have.
They are currently sunning themselves next to me and loving life in the great outdoors.
Happy plants = happy days.
TF.

Hi Flea, sorry to hear about them not sprouting for you. I'm curious, though, about the temperature you were germinating them at? Were you using a controlled heat-mat, by any chance?

FF

All six of the seeds soaked for 24 hours in H2O. With Mr. Nice Genetics, I've become accustomed to seeing the seed split and the radicle exposing iteself after 12-24 hours soaking. That isn't the case with this batch. All the seeds sank, but non have split. I nestled them into moist papertowels and two plates, then set them atop a heat mat. I used a folded up towl to diffuse some of the heat from the pad. I checked the seeds upon waking, no change.

I'm really hoping to see some action by the time I get home. This germination is especially nerve-wracking. 😅

Thank you @shantibaba @musashi And everyone for the opportunity to try this cross!🤩

Hi FF,
No heat mat. I've never owned one.
I followed my usual practices and on this occasion I only managed a 50% germination rate.

Thanks for the update, Flea. Good to know. This, below, is one of the best germination methods I've come across:

Kevin Jodrey on Cannabis Seed Germination

About 8:00 minutes in, he states that the optimal temp for germination is 78-82° F; or 80° on average. Many seeds will germinate outside of that target range, but the highest rate occurs within it.

Cheers! - FF

This is what test runs are all about! Troubleshooting with a range of variables.

If the next tester for the NL5xZU uses the paper towel method, maybe they could do a side by side germination test with an unfiled seed and one that has been given a rub with some wet/dry sandpaper?

I've had Biscuit Buster from Tropical Seeds in the past, and they came with instructions to sand the seed along the seam or crack with pressure before germination.

Three of the six seeds were sewn last night into their new homes. Unfortunately, this morning, I noticed some fuzz on one of the three remaining seeds. I had to leave but will soak the last three in peroxide water and place between fresh sheets of moist paper when I get home. I assume that seed's a gonner, but....🙏🙏🙏 I'll read up on recomended dilution and follow whicever seems reasonable and gentle.

A quick update on the three NL Haze X Zunami seedlings.
They are enjoying lots of sun and are growing well.
#1 and #3 both look more hybrid / sativa in terms of leaf shape whereas #2 has more of an indica look.
Time will tell.

I repotted the three NL Haze X Zunami earlier today and placed them under artificial light for the first time.
I am confident they will now really start to shine.
As I was working with them I noticed that #1 absolutely stinks - 'dank lemon incense' and haze. I honestly can't remember a plant smelling so strongly at this age.
If the final product has anything like the smell I encountered today then it could be game changing. Here's hoping.
Pictures later this week.
Keep it green.
TF.

My girls are growing slower than usual. It’s 30 days since I 1st soaked and usually when I transplant into a 2 gallon, but I don’t feel that it’s needed yet. By now I should see roots through the bottom holes and I don’t. Main stem is rather thin and upper growth is slow. 4th plant via the cracked seed method didn’t make it.

7”, 6” & 4”.
Since I have only 3 plants and 1/2 looks strong, I’m going to veg them for a long time and take clones before I flower down the road.
