Nice post Josh, the above quote does not surprise me in the least bit to read.
Thanks Jesse.
You know, I have tried a lot of so called hazes in Amsterdam, 2005 and after, and the closest thing I could really find to my original Seedbank Haze, was SH and SSH, but it was a faint resemblance. Great Stuff though, I really did enjoy them both, and they were far superior to the next runner up, which I tried just the year before last, Amnesia Haze.
I wish I had known about MNS last time I was in Amsterdam.
All the other so called hazes I have tried over the last few years in Amsterdam, of which there are many, were total crap, and bore no similarity whatsoever to Seedbank Haze.
Amnesia Haze, I may not have guessed was a haze if I hadn't been told, but at least it was dynamite.
With that said,
I think we may have to come to terms with the fact that whatever those few seedlings that sprouted from 2000 odd haze seeds which Nevil had, they were ultimately unique, and special, and who knows what they may have been, but let it suffice to say, that Nevil found them because he has some kind of magic, and that's why we call men like him Wizards. Whatever you may want to say about it, I would call it destiny.
I know I was lucky enough to order from Seedbank so many years ago, and for me that was destiny.
...i guess the problem in all this talk is again the naming issue, you like me consider haze anything that has more than 50% haze in her blood and in her phenotypical expression, for such a haze its impossible to finish (sinsemillawise)
sadly todays name "haze" is beeing missused, as we can read all along this thread, anything that has just 5% haze (mathematically) becomes instantly a haze, you r not the only 1 who is upset by this btw

and if sombody has such a haze, it will finish in temperate zones, without questioning the rest of 95% of genes .. best example this new auto-haze ...
again we r fucked up, bc the name haze is today more of a marketing strategy than it has to do with the origins and the strain itself, its a golden cash cow everbody wants to milk...
Hi Deran,
you make a good point and I definitely agree with the general gist of what you are saying, but I think 50% is not necessarily the cut off. And it is not necessarily about the raw percentage of genetic make up, but has more to do with which alleles are passed on to the progeny in question.
Allow me to explain. You could potentially have a 25% haze that is more hazey than a 50% haze. How could this be? Well, lets take my brother for example: he is the spitting image of my great grandfather, and they are/were both professional musicians, etc. Yet my brother is only 12.5% of my Great Grandfather. My brother looks more like my Great Grandfather than any of his sons did, none of whom went on to become professional musicians. That is just one example. Have you ever heard the adage "sometimes it skips a generation"?
Now the purest haze I have experience with is 89-90 Seedbank NL5hz. To me, that is the ideal. When I think of haze, that is what I think of. It was a 50% pure Haze.
My Haze Hybrids, are mostly 50% NL5Haze, this makes them 25% pure haze, however, I have smoked 2 other strains that are purportedly also 50% pure Haze, this would be Sensi Silver Haze, and Greenhouse Super Silver Haze.
I can tell you that without any doubt, my 25% hazes are much more similar to my original Seedbank Haze in flavor and effect by far, than any of the above strains I tried in Amsterdam.
This is the result of many years of careful linebreeding around NL5Hz, in an effort to isolate those phenotypes, and encourage their expression in progeny.
