Nice post Josh, the above quote does not surprise me in the least bit to read.

Thanks Jesse.

You know, I have tried a lot of so called hazes in Amsterdam, 2005 and after, and the closest thing I could really find to my original Seedbank Haze, was SH and SSH, but it was a faint resemblance. Great Stuff though, I really did enjoy them both, and they were far superior to the next runner up, which I tried just the year before last, Amnesia Haze.

I wish I had known about MNS last time I was in Amsterdam.

All the other so called hazes I have tried over the last few years in Amsterdam, of which there are many, were total crap, and bore no similarity whatsoever to Seedbank Haze.

Amnesia Haze, I may not have guessed was a haze if I hadn't been told, but at least it was dynamite.

With that said, I think we may have to come to terms with the fact that whatever those few seedlings that sprouted from 2000 odd haze seeds which Nevil had, they were ultimately unique, and special, and who knows what they may have been, but let it suffice to say, that Nevil found them because he has some kind of magic, and that's why we call men like him Wizards. Whatever you may want to say about it, I would call it destiny.

I know I was lucky enough to order from Seedbank so many years ago, and for me that was destiny.

...i guess the problem in all this talk is again the naming issue, you like me consider haze anything that has more than 50% haze in her blood and in her phenotypical expression, for such a haze its impossible to finish (sinsemillawise)

sadly todays name "haze" is beeing missused, as we can read all along this thread, anything that has just 5% haze (mathematically) becomes instantly a haze, you r not the only 1 who is upset by this btw ;) and if sombody has such a haze, it will finish in temperate zones, without questioning the rest of 95% of genes .. best example this new auto-haze ...

again we r fucked up, bc the name haze is today more of a marketing strategy than it has to do with the origins and the strain itself, its a golden cash cow everbody wants to milk...

:)

Hi Deran,
you make a good point and I definitely agree with the general gist of what you are saying, but I think 50% is not necessarily the cut off. And it is not necessarily about the raw percentage of genetic make up, but has more to do with which alleles are passed on to the progeny in question.

Allow me to explain. You could potentially have a 25% haze that is more hazey than a 50% haze. How could this be? Well, lets take my brother for example: he is the spitting image of my great grandfather, and they are/were both professional musicians, etc. Yet my brother is only 12.5% of my Great Grandfather. My brother looks more like my Great Grandfather than any of his sons did, none of whom went on to become professional musicians. That is just one example. Have you ever heard the adage "sometimes it skips a generation"?

Now the purest haze I have experience with is 89-90 Seedbank NL5hz. To me, that is the ideal. When I think of haze, that is what I think of. It was a 50% pure Haze.

My Haze Hybrids, are mostly 50% NL5Haze, this makes them 25% pure haze, however, I have smoked 2 other strains that are purportedly also 50% pure Haze, this would be Sensi Silver Haze, and Greenhouse Super Silver Haze.

I can tell you that without any doubt, my 25% hazes are much more similar to my original Seedbank Haze in flavor and effect by far, than any of the above strains I tried in Amsterdam.

This is the result of many years of careful linebreeding around NL5Hz, in an effort to isolate those phenotypes, and encourage their expression in progeny.

more than 50% haze in her blood and in her phenotypical expression

i tried it with this sentence :D

sure, i had mathematical 25% haze, which were more hazy than skunkXhaze wich would be mathematically 50% ...

wanted to point out with the phenotypical expression, we meant the same, yep :D

Nice job.

I typed NH in the search bar after it showed the results from a different search but y'all get the point.

Peace.

bobby was being a nasty shit big one of your comrades i take it let him show his face in here agine and i will cut and paste his little posts that shows just how intelligent he also is haze hybrids failing in Appalachia will be the title to his story lol.
You have something you want to say to me Hempy? I've tried to be civil, and I will remain that way, but I will say this: Keep my name out of your mouth. You can misinterpret my post all you want, but don't attack me personally for being the messenger of some truth you didn't want to hear. Be sure you have all the facts before you start posting...

Jesse PM'ed me with a similar statement, and I am sorry that you guys misinterpreted my post. First, I'll reiterate, please don't take what I've said or say personally. We don't know each other at all.

My intention was to let you all know that no matter what you are trying to say to each other, whether right or wrong, the way you all are doing it is disrespectful to each other, and should not be on the MNS board. There are other people who use this site, and shanti would be right to think that customers that read this type of thread/posts from members with 4 digit post counts will likely think less of his company just by its presence on his forum. It is exactly threads/posts/behavior like this that makes him consider shutting the site down. So don't fuck it up for everyone else, quit being so selfish and immature, and start treating each other with respect. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. Consider it a request from a fellow member, to please refrain from being disrespectful to other members. The goal is to make the board a better place. Feel free to decline my request. If you all don't think your attitudes are out of line, then I can start a petition or something and we can see what the community at large thinks as well.

Take it easy

(*edit) I just saw Cannatari's post in front of mine, and that is exactly what I'm talking about......

20 week Haze

I love taking advantage of the Californian spring & getting a small crop of greenhouse-grown Haze in before summer hits. Last year, my Afghani Haze x Master Kush and Old Mother bastards were done in April!

This year will be different, as the Haze cutting I have planted outdoors will take around 20 weeks. I'm guessing I'll be smoking this one sometime in late June.

I have no idea what exactly it is, but she came from an older gent named Jack from up in Mendo, and he's had her since the '80s. I tried a couple of them indoors this winter, confining them to the perimeter of my grow room, and they do indeed take close to 20 weeks (though I only made it 18 before I lost patience). When flowered from clone in a 7 gallon pot, she topped out at about five feet.

The effects are mellow and cheerful, not a strong sativa by any means but exceptionally pleasant and euphoric without any heart-racing stimulation. The flavors are unique but certainly Haze-y... if you wore a pair of leather boots while cutting the lawn, those boots might taste like this Haze. :D

This cutting is a little too pure sativa for my grow conditions, so after these last few flower out in the greenhouse she'll be gone from my hands... but not before she gets pollinated by a Skunk #1 male. Just in case, ya know?

What a bunch of fucking children.

I bet you lot couldn't discuss how many sugars to have in your tea without it ending up like this.

Hempy is so full of hate he needs to get the fuck of the internet and get laid or something, I've tried to get along with the guy but just look at how he behaves, incredible

bigherb is so full of shit I can smell it from here, he should get the fuck away from his computer and get laid or something too

Jesse is a a clown, an absolute clown, thinks posting stupid pictures is constructung a counterpoint.

Last few pages of this thread make you all look like absolute ass-clowns.

Fuck you all, I'm disgusted with ya....

Nice post Jim. That reminds me of a couple of the females I got from a pack of Seedsman Haze, they took 70 days of 12/12 to show sex indoors and never did finish, got to 16 weeks and needed at least another month, they got chopped before being ripe because I had to go to Spain for a couple of weeks.

I kinda lost my rag with my prior post, been a busy day, finally got to sit down and check the forum and see how the Haze discussion was going and had to click through 5 pages of utter bullshit and bile with children bickering at each other before I found the last page with sensible discussion and that really wound me up, it's like trying to have a meaningful conversation with a friend and not being able to because some asshats keep interrupting.

Thanks to deran, jim and josh for trying to remain on subject. The rest of you seem to have reverted to 5 year olds and need to take your heads for a shit quite frankly.

Jim dank

Great pics

Thanks for that interesting report ,it be great to see some updates with your progression

Im curious if you still speak to jack from mendo,it be great to know more about the origin of the plant such as source and exact year .Im curious as to what year in 80 he might have aquired the cut or stock .That leather boot description is intersting an a familiar haze trait round here.

Best wishes

I know my art and know it well i know sativas better than a lot of you realize this info was all to be had for free now i give it reluctantly why is that i will tell you its because of smart asses like you.

I have one more thing to add then fuck this i will contribute even less i wont delete as i reserve the right to come and go as i see fit hammer correct who i feel is deserving.

Hey hempy ,, its ok to contribute less ,, we wont mind mate ,
it will make things quieter around here ,, we cherish that ..
sounds like you were almost thinkng of charging for your amazing advice .. ???

I'd pay a 9 pound note for the gems about 'thias' not turning hermie after being sexed, all panama being red and indicas being the root of all hermie problems.

I think hempy still wants a knighthood for drilling a hole in a bucket.

Yea only reason i said something ,,
hempy is the pot calling the kettle black ,,
everything he accuses others of doing , he is doing himself ..

We are all guests in shanti 's house hempy ,
is this how you will treat his other guests ??

do you think shanti would treat guests like this??
or do you think he will like to see his guests treated badly by other guests .

comon man , have respect for the owner of the site ,, who asked that we moderate ourselves ..
you are clearly not moderating yourself hempy ..

I agree Wally and I'd add that I don't think Shanti would like it if people stopped visiting because they didn't find some of the old regulars to be friendly or pleasant.

It just winds me up when threads go like this, happens too often here now, when you have to go back 5 pages to find the end of the discussion to carry it on then it's gone beyond the pale. I pity people who came here to look up 'Haze' and instead found the Haze thread full of hatred.

I like Rugby League and always thought the 'sin bin' was a good idea for when people get a bit too wound up - take 5 mins to sit down and calm it, perhaps people should try doing that themselves - take a walk and chill next time they feel like typing a load of hatred.

True bh ...

Back to the haze then ,,

Ill bet rcc knows the history of haze ,
maybe shanti also given they are good friends ...
likely some parts have not been revealed to protect names etc ..

as another member said ,, "often the best lie is the truth ""
(its less believeable than a story)

Thanks for the kind words, british_hempire and bigherb. I was hoping to hijack this thread back from the off-topic nonsense that has begun to dominate.

Hempire, I think mine might be a bit of an early finisher compared to your Seedsman OH's! As you can see, she's starting to sex out a bit and after thirty-plus days outdoors in the greenhouse, it's about time. Our March here in the Bay Area had 21+ days of rain (and most of the rest were fairly steely & overcast), so to me it is impressive that she is so healthy and vibrant.

Bigherb, I wish I could ask Jack some questions but never had the chance. The clones were brought to my local medical cannabis dispensary by Jack on the chance that they would sell his clones on consignment. When he told the clone purchaser that they went for 20 weeks, the purchaser answered quite honestly that he wouldn't be able to sell them. Jack, disappointed by the lack of potential sale and with a long drive back to Mendo, left the tray there. The clone manager fished a few out of the garbage for me a few days later after no one else would adopt them. Needless to say, everything I know about this variety comes second-hand from the clone purchaser. The original tags said "Jack's Old-time Haze"-- my first assumption was that it was from "Old Timer's Haze" stock, but the clone purchaser said he made the name up from the scant info that Jack provided.

I'll try to drop in a few more pictures as the season progresses.

Pax!

Aye, I bet RCC knows the origins, and like Churchill said, the truth is best protected by a bodygaurd of lies' he also said the best place to hide something was 'in plain sight' so I expect you're right, things were changed to protect names etc.

The written history ala RCC says this:

Original Haze was bred by the Haze Bros in Corralitos, Santa Cruz, CA in 1971-73, first year they planted Mexican and Colombian, then added Thai and South Indian the nest two seasons, those seeds were provided by Sam who lived next door to one of the Bros.

Maybe the truth is this:

Haze appeared in Cali in the late 60s and was sold for upto 500 an oz (as Sam said original Haze sold for in the early 70s) and was thought to be a Mexican/Colombian hybrid. Some enterprising guys in Santa Cruz planted seeds picked out of some Haze buds, grew them and for some reason decided they needed to hybridise it with Thai and Indian. Maybe they didn't get any good Haze males so had to introduce a Thai male? Maybe the Haze had some undesirable growth traits they attempted to fix?

I think RCC and Sam's tale of the Haze Bros and Corralitos is largely true, the two parts that I question are the source of the Mexican/Colombian they began with and whether the Haze Bros existed as a pair of grower/breeders or whether it was just Sam and RCC and the Bros are a fiction to protect that fact. Maybe the Bros did exist, that old article about Sam calls him Jingles, you would think they would have called him a Haze Bros if he was one, or maybe Sam wanted to disguise that fact even that far back in time?

One thing that does make me think there was a Haze before 1971 and Sam/RCC's tale of the Bros is the seeds that Sam sold to Nev, we know the dates on the bags predated the timeline Sam and RCC give, by their timeline, the first time Original Haze as bred by the Bros existed was early 1974 after the plants of the 1973 season were harvested and dried and the seeds collected. That's 5 years later than the date on the bag that the Haze males came from. So Nev got two truly exceptional breeding plants from seeds from the end of the 60s and those two plants are the basis for almost all commercial Haze ever since. Meanwhile, I don't think anyone has bothered with Sam's Original Haze very much, the hybrids of it like HazeSkunk, Indian Haze have been easily available for years from TFD and Seedsman but have never garnered much attention, I've grown em, never found anything special.

So one has to conclude that the genes Nev used from the late 60s were much better as breeding stock than anything which Sam came up with later, Nev remembers Sam's Hazes in Holland, that they were crap. You have to wonder, does all this mean that the original Haze of 60s Cali was truly special as Nev's work would seem to prove and that Sam didn't do a good job of working with that Haze to make his Original Haze?

It might well be the case that the Haze A and C that Nev had were pure Haze and that all of Sam's versions are (Haze x Thai) x South Indian. It might therefore follow that the lineages are thus:

Haze = Mexican/Colombian, bred in Cali in the 60s

Original Haze = (Haze x Thai) x South Indian, bred in Cali in the early 70s

If I'm right then that would account for why Nev's Haze hybrid work is better than Sam's - Nev's has more Haze in it!

Hey bh ,
I recall sam saying his fave of all time to toke was haze and golden thai ,
no mention of columbian or mexican .

I can see how to some everything doesnt quite add up right ,
its true we do try at times to be too "politically correct"

I would love to read any literature sam brings out ,
he has a lot to tell i should think ..
