In fact, the difficulty with Hazes is that most of the time they produce better results from clones because they tend to have a lot of genetic diversity and a higher percentage of hermaphrodites than less sativa hybrids.

Clones from heavy sativa dominant strains biggest advantage is that by the time they are made and vegged they are more mature and flower a bit faster.
From seed you need to grow them longer, flowering after 2 weeks veg is doable but they will continue to veg and have a slower transitions to flower when they are not mature enough imo.

For those who are unable to keep clones, perhaps the IBL versions of SSH or Mango Haze would be easier to grow from seed.

The difficulty with Hazes is length of florescence and nutrient/light sensitivity. The advantage of haze clones is in the reduction of flower time by 2-3 weeks. A higher percentage of hermaphrodites has more to do with breeding than cannabis type.

IBL versions are not necessarily easier to grow from seed. Environmental factors play an important role here. The primary advantage of IBL's lies in their homegeneity. Many aspiring breeders/growers prefer a somewhat heterogenic plant where they can select from various phenotype expressions. That's one of the main reasons people purchase and use MNS regular seeds.

Would that make it easier to evaluate the non-IBL plant, especially if that plant was a male?

Nice male shots @Swifty, will evaluate males like you are doing from now on, looking for trichs, stem rubs etc.
I remember reading about that, but never put it into practice.
It makes sense to be just as rigorous in that regard
I can feel a seed run coming on.

Another point I was thinking about over the past few days and it was kind of sparked by a remark here in this thread.
And that is that a good sativa cross like Neville's Haze helps sharpen the senses surrounding what to cull and what to keep.
Certainly raises the bar and has made a few of the ladies in my grow tent a bit nervous.
And if they are not a bit nervous, then they probably should be.

Thank you Uncle Jack, I will re-evaluate this weekend and will make some pictures of the plants themselves.
Some have a very nice structure.

I plan on flowering the males a couple of weeks more so the trichomes can develop.
I will harvest the tops were I see the nicest concentration of trichomes and rinse the pollen of before drying them.
Having smoked male flowers in the past learned me that they certainly get you high but the taste is foul.
Vaping them should be better.
The high was not very strong then but the quality was there so it is worth the effort to see what they could bring to the table.

Hoping for 2 strong males with a great high to make seeds with the current keepers.

Day 99 of flowering today, starting to see good progress.
Past the 14 week mark, I hope to see the finish line in 4 weeks.
We are now at 152 days from putting the seeds in water.

Feeding is lowered to 1,5mlL/ Alga Bloom and I started with some extra PK 0,5ml/L Greens Sensation.
Lighting is now 10h on and 14off.

Temps are also dropping a bit here.

I hope that al this helps them to finish strong.

These plants are showing very good trichome production, remarkable to see that every pheno is on par.

Pearls, string or however it is called they produce big round calyxes with very good trichome coverage:

The smell is varying a lot, I will assess it when harvesting.
I plan to harvest in stages, when I think a plant is ready she will be pulled out carefully.
Still a daunting task, smoking some Haze before will help me bring myself to the right state of mind.

The males are down to 8 now, It looks like I will have some special individuals.
Those 8 show trichomes (some more , some less) and al have a nice smell.
The smells range from hazy sweet/sour, coca cola and paint thinner now.

Certainly not Pree, that is NH male#14 I believe and he has the most trichomes so far.
This could change however, I see some males picking up more resin as they mature further.
To truly see what they are capable of you need to go the distance and let them flower until the end (or near).
Saw this pas year too.
It is the smallest male now but he was one of the few that reveggged a bit, the father cut grows on par with the rest.

Why not test the males by smoking its pollen? That could be interesting.

I remember the pollen from the Dirt Dawg that produced my F2s, it was already quite potent (~1/4 the potency of the buds).

Just looked at my notes and this one just says VERY HAZY (sweet&sour?).
I will assess them again this weekend and make a better evaluation.

Inspected the male again and it looks like there are 3 possible winners regarding trichomes.
These al smell very hazy, no incense but more sweet/sour and coca cola like with some slightly different undertones.
It was windy and colder so I will make the final assesment over the weekend, they predict some warmer weather.
When the trichomes start to become cloudy I will harvest them.

I culled #9 (lack of enough trichomes) and #14,26 and 36 are the winners in that department.
The others are decent, they could still make the cut if the smell strong.

Day 112 of flowering.

Trichomes!
These plants are awesome, the tent smells more like spices and liver now, it reminds me also of older books.
I can't smell most of the individuals but the general smell is very special. I have never had a grow smell like this before.
Feeding and lighting stays the same as last week.

I will cut the the branches and leaves under the net this weekend and I will higher the light.
Still have 5cm left.
