Breeding techniques

The NL strains were grown and bred under lights in small spaces. These were among the most advanced indoor lines on the planet. Small growers, like many of you created them. Good work can be done with small numbers.
I'd suggest that instead of using the 3 or 4 best males as a group, you use each one individually on different buds on the plant.
Another point is that you can try making your own hybrids. This is often more rewarding than trying to clean up a line into an IBL.
I applaud Joshua's efforts to encourage everyone to breed cannabis. When everyone breeds cannabis, the genetic revolution will come. Expect miracles, they happen all the time.

thanks

hi Nevil, all,

great advice from all sides and differing opinions too are respected.

very rewarding hybrids were made: JH X La Nina, Nevil' Haze/Mango X La Nina, and LN X SSH. very happy with these also Malawi Gold X SSH was good. LN X Ethiopian Highland produced very average plants. it must have been the EH:rolleyes:

This thead just grew and grew like a big grape vine didnt it, i heard it through the grape vine is all i no'

nev' have you had much to do with super skunk in the past, all i know is what sensi put on there site, f/1, pretty stable for a f/1 , i had two pheno types in the mothers i grew out, il leave a snap shot or two' this was a older super skunk version.

a variegated or half albino, whats the best technique for using this as a mother to pass down that one trait?
I had a line of SK1 that threw varigated plants. I dumped it. I'm not into ornamentals or hemp.

I got a relevant question i hope someone can answer.
But anyways my buddy has a variegated or half albino, whats the best technique for using this as a mother to pass down that one trait? I have a feeling that these seeds are highly inbreed or something as i had the same ones and they where the most fucked up seedlings i have ever seen.
Thanks in advance.

Why do you want to continue that trait - it sounds like that line is full of problems? I could understand it for ornamental plants...
This is just from backyard observation of landscape-type plants, but it seems that when I have a variegated and a regular version of a plant, the variegated ones tend to be less vigorous (NOT scientific, I know)

My concern is that pollen can only be obtained from intersex females. This may mean that if you can make fems, you shouldn't. But I don't know.

Has any breeder of feminized seeds written in any detail about criteria they use for selecting a female to reverse? Stress testing protocols, maybe some guidelines for using a plant's 'reluctance' to reverse as a factor in its suitability
(say, having to use a higher strength STS or colloidal silver solution, having to do repeated sprayings or longer duration of treatment, that sort of thing) ?

And is there such a thing as a 'true' female that would not reverse no matter how much stress or chemical treatments you applied? I was under the impression that ALL female cannabis plants had at least the potential to reverse...

Could you not, if you had the time and space, and an amazing standout female, reverse that female, make the cross (while maybe making note of how reluctant that female was to reverse), and THEN if the resulting (all female) offspring were desirable, go back to a clone of the female you reversed and cross/backcross her to one of her male siblings enough times to obtain a true male that's genetically extremely close to the original female, and use THAT true male to pollinate the original NON-feminized female? (sorry, just realized that was all one long sentence...)

Using a reversed female for your original cross saves you having to progeny test males, but of course costs you additional time backcrossing. But would this be one way to select/stress test/cross using reversal as a tool, without releasing the feminized seedstock into the wild?

Azra'eil. Peace.
When cruising threads we always pause when we notice certain personally favoured members have dropped in to make a post. I always pause when I see you've come by.

take it easy Az, you certainly seem like a genuine chap to me.
Peace

everybody will surely not care but im leaving, i feel im not useful here and that often nobody care about my opinions or the help i try to give.

AZ!.

Come and argue with people with ME! lol.;)

I dont post in here because I dont know shit about it, but to see your post makes me sad.

Your a good guy, even your alter-ego BM has the odd down spell?.;)

The only crime here in Gotham I mean MNS, has been slander. Its the recesion haveing its own effect on crime fighting.

Hopefully the Bat signal shall go up agian, for you to defend Gotham I mean MNS again.

Dont go!, be accertive push in !.

well it could have some benefits for an outdoor grower or albino buds that you can smoke fresh with no chlorophyll. :D

I just think its an interesting plant, someone suggested he fem' it to create seeds as an ornamental.

Have you ever smoked these 'albino buds' fresh with no chlorophyll before?

Variegation is highly desirable with ornamental plants (flowers) and some fruits, but not for consumption, just looks and rarity.

and i thought this was a breeding thread

sorry to sound so dramatic fellows. im just very sad in these days.
take care of you all.

Az aka batman too

hope you change your mind az ,, i like your posts and loved batman also , you seem to be a valued member , dont leave .

N.

Nevil the method is to stress test females, cull those showing intersex traits and then use the proper stress tested females as pollen donors through chemical/hormone treatments. This method does NOT select towards hermies and allows your trained pallet to be used on your pollen donors.

Speaking to those who have used the techniques to maintain lines through generations i've heard of no negative consequences. But like I said most of them are also carrying these lines on in traditional forms. And because they're using proper methodologies no one has said the gynoecious versions are meeting goals faster than traditional male/female lines...but I haven't talked to hyb in a while. If you're out there brother pm me.
