The origins of Haze

I never called you a rat, where did you get that from?

Also, I've never rubbished shanti, you really are getting senile, either your memory is failing you or you're making it up.

I never said haze can grow in snow and I never said pan reds were afghani, I said that Colombian Red is said to be an adapted indica, not the same thing at all, coop mentioned Lebanese farmers and I mentioned after that I had heard about Afghan farmers.

Knowledge and facts? you're being hypocritical there when you spout 'facts' that are just wrong like all Panama being red, sativas not herming after showing sex etc etc, I have agreed with you plenty of times too but you forget those.

I'm through with you, you're making things up, getting things badly wrong and just talking hot arse air, go away.

Thanks everyone I am learning how to grow and the history of canibus along with nit picking, arguing, and insuling other people. This site keeps getting better. OOHH yeah you can be the better person and move on life is to short for hating everyone that don't have their facts striaght. If they don't understand or have the wrong info don't yell at them that don't help nothing. Tell them why you think you are right(just think you might be the one with the wrong info.) If they don't want to pick up on the truth then move on. Let's get back to the "orgin of haze" and leave the rants to PMs like blueboy said. So that the whole world don't have to see your inmature actions.

Bobby Digital,
Its funny how Scorpion, hempy and myself have all misinterpreted your post. Perhaps we have not misinterpreted anything at all, and you're unable to accept the rebuttals levied? I am not sure how you think things are suppost to work, but your view seems a little bit skewed to me to say the very least. Are you actually going to tell hempy to keep your name out his mouth, after you're the one who instigated his rebuttal in the first place? You do realize, thats how these things work, right?

Why is it so many of you feel a sense of entitlement to post whatever you like, no matter how negative, or wrong, and feel that a rebuttal should not be rendered? Do you actually believe you should be able to say what you like, without anyone responding back? If so, I would wager you have a great deal to learn in life.

You are not going to come into my thread, which Ive spent a great deal of time on, and tell me what I can or can not post, and wager innuendo threats to Hempy, after you're the one who called him out in the first place. It never ceases to amaze me how many of you with no real knowledge or passion for the plant can downplay others desire for the facts, truth and straight and narrow. I can not count on my fingers how many times I have been trolled by the same individuals, for extended periods of time and ignored them all the long. But once I do respond back, people like Bobby Digital are quick to say Bad JessE lol. They remain quiet while the trolling happens, but once a reponse is rindered, all of a sudden they are outspoken. Funny how these types of things work...

You speak of respect for the website, but you have none yourself Bobby! Where is your respect for Shanti's rules of not divulging contents of pm? Do you think its acceptable to highlight a specific part of hempy's post, and say JessE essentially said the same thing in private message, and not be called out on it? You are a walking set of contradictions, which is why you initially got a private message in the first place instead of an ass kicking on the forum.

I personally find you to be a two faced little bitch Bobby, and if you do not like to hear the truth, then perhaps this is not the forum for you? Because this has always been a no non-sense forum, from the beginning. Ive watched this forum grow from its infancy at other websites, into what it is today, and will no doubt evolve into tomorrow. A majority of you, you included Bobby, have had absolutely zero to do with that. You only find yourselves here now, because people like Hempy and Scorpion, Kashgari etc. helped build this place from the ground up. Now you new arrivals show up, attempt to change a no non-sense forum into bullshit central, where you attack others and yet expect no one to respond back in kind.

It is you who came into this thread, and started running your mouth. Not the other way around. And in three seperate post you make inflammatory comments, yet expect not to be pulled up on your actions? Get real.
I think this post sums up my thoughts exactly........

You guys do realize that this is not normal adult behavior, right?

Like I told hempy, keep my name out of your mouth. I'll say it again, misinterpret my posts all you want, but don't attack me personally.

I've got an idea........Feel free to vote in the poll
Should JessE/Hempy be moderated? Petition to the community at large

An old article that might be interesting. We talk so much about all the early modern genes coming from imports of the 60s and on but we seem to neglect to mention the fact that the 60s is only 30 years after weed was made illegal and before that it was being grown field scale to pharmaceutical quality and they had sourced the finest seed from around the world for those grows so I think there's a strong possibility some of the old Cannabis Americana genes survived and contributed to the modern explosion of weed growing and breeding in the 60s.

No problem on the rat thing hempy, we all make errors, thankyou for the correction.

The word Marijuana was made up by one of the leaders of the group who pushed for it to be made illegal in the first place I can't recall his name at the moment but he was also prominent player in the wood pulping industry. No surprise there....

Randolph Hearst... I think? though I think that comes from Mary Jane in spanish? since he was racist he prob used it to say it was a mexican thing etc...

Marijuana probably does come from the spanish for mary jane.

William Randolph Hearst, what an evil fucker he was.

Had a shirt runied by a Chinese laundry in his youth so as a result developed a life-long pathological hatred of Chinese people and statred the horrid racist 'Yellow Peril' scare of the turn of the century which led to the ban on opium in the US, Hearst used 'Yellow Journalism' to spread false tales of white women being lured into opium dens and corrupted by evil Chinese white slavers.

Hearst owned hundreds of thousands of acres of prime timber forest in Mexico to provide pulp for his papers. When Pancho Villa kicked off the Mexican Revolution in 1915 he seized all the US-owned mines, oil wells, forestries etc so Hearst lost his land. As the shirt incident made him hate Chinese this made him hate Mexicans so he sent reporters down to Mexico to follow Villa and write nasty stories about him. It was in the cantinas or Sonora just over the border that Hearst reporters heard the word 'Marijuana' and they observed how the Yaqui Indians who made up most of Pancho's army smoked marijuana constantly.

When they returned to the US they began their campaign against Mexicans and Marijuana, they either sensationalised things to a huge degree or plain lied. For instance, if there was one automobile crash where a marijuana cigarette was found it was sensationalist headline news in all of Hearst's papers with headlines like 'Evil Marijuana claims another innocent victim'. Thing is, there were 100x as many automobile accidents involving drink but Hearst never let the truth get in the way of a good story (that's a quoite from him BTW).

Also, Hearst was part of a banking/business cabal than included people like the bankers Carnegie and Mellen, the industrialist DuPont and others. DuPont invented a chemical process to bleach wood pulp to make paper, Hearst, being a huge consumer of paper invested heavily in this new method as did Mellen, Carnegie and others.

Not long after, some enterprising chap invented a machine called the Decorticator. This was the first machine for breaking hemp and this made the growing of hemp for paper very viable and potentially profitable. Hemp makes better, cheaper paper than wood pulp and no chemicals are needed to bleach it.

Hearst and his cabal made sure the decorticator was never taken up commercially and to make sure they never faced that threat again they had marijuana made illegal. Anslinger was on the board of one of the baks in the cabal, Hearst's decade of campaigning against the 'Evil Marijuana' had built up enough public opinion.

Yup, they had marijuana made illegal in order to protect their investment in DuPont's wood pulp bleaching process. The entire Pacific Northwest was fucked by all the chemical discharges from DuPont's bleaching process, the rivers were turned red, all the fish died. Hearst's cabal made billions out of paper and the really sad thing is it caused huge environmental damage, destroyed huge tracts of irreplaceable forest and produced a far more expensive and vastly inferior product than hemp paper, all done in order to turn a huge profit for a small group of wealthy white families. Hemp stood in the way of their profiteering so they called it marijuana and made it illegal.

This is the sort of crap Hearst used to publish - Marihuana, Assassin of Youth...

One fascinating fact about Hearst - he was so despised in Hollywood they made a film just to destroy his reputation. You might have heard of it - Citizen Kane.

It's a VERY thinly veiled attack on Hearst.

As you know, Orson Welles at the end of the film dies after whispering 'Rosebud'

That was an inside joke at Hearsts's expense. He had a mistress who was a Hollywood actress, her pet name for her clitoris was Rosebud and the joke was that Hearst/Welles died with Rosebud on his lips.

Hearst was absolutely furious and did everything he could to destroy Welle's career although Welles probably did a better job of that himself.

its like flicking thru the daily mail... super skunk kills!!!

Aye, only it was much, much worse than it is today as Hearst didn't have a Press Complaints Commission or anyone else to rein him in and he had so much power through is friends in high places he could get away with saying whatever he wanted.

To any modern person reading those old articles they are so ludicrous as to be utterly laughable but you have to remember that they were written at a time when there was no TV or Radio, most people had never travelled more than 20 miles from home and everyone read the newspapers and believed them.

Great example of how little people knew of Marijuana was that just after the Marijuana Tax Act was brought in making it effectively illegal the American Medical Association realised that this new evil drug 'Marijuana' was in fact, good old hemp as had been used as medicine in America since the first settlers landed. The AMA tried hard to get hemp/marijuana admitted back into the pharmacopaeia and failed, I think they even lobbied Congress as they were incredulous that hemp had been banned as they knew full well it was harmless and very medically useful.

You see, if Hearst and his lot had let slip the simple fact that this new evil drug Marijuana was the same thing as good old hemp then they would never have been able to get it banned.

Same thing as Tony Blair saying Saddam has WMDs so we won't realise why we are really invading Iraq - I believe magicians call it 'the art of misdirection'.

I wrote an article about the discovery that they were the same plant by US soldiers.

During the 20s and 30s a large number of US troops cycled through the Panama Canal Zone posting and while there discovered Marijuana and took up smoking it. It was only after returning home and planting the seeds they had saved from this Panamanian weed that they discovered they recognised what it was and that it was the same plant as hemp.

You can imagine some soldier boy from Kentucky who knew hemp well because it was widely grown there getting posted to Panama, developing a taste for Marijuana while there then coming home, planting the seeds and a few weeks later scratching his head and saying 'dayum, that ain't nuthin more than sweet hemp, whooda thunkit'

The first white people to discover Marijuana were probably the Mormons. Around 1910 a sect of Mormons left Utah because they didn't agree with Brigham Young on some ecumenical matter and travelled all the way to the state of Sonora, NW Mexico to setup a new settlement in the desert there. The Yaqui Indians of Sonora smoked weed constantly and the Mormons adopted the habit, there being a religious prohibition against spiritous liquors but no mention of Marijuana.

In 1915 when the Mexican Revolution erupted the Mormons fled back to Utah and took the plant with them. This is why Utah was the first state to enact anti-MF legislation shortly after.

The next white folks to discovered Marijuana after those Mormons were the troops who General Pershing led down Mexico way in pursuit of Villa a couple of years later. It was in the cantinas of Sonora that Pershing's troops encountered Marijuana and Tequila and they imbibed both in great quantities, they definitely brought Marijuana back home after the Expedition ended because we have army reports of endemic marijuana use throughout the Army posts of the South West in the following decade. Also, Tom Mix, the famous cowboy star of the silent era of Hollywood in the early 20s fought for Pancho Villa and he used to cross the Rio Grande back to the US with his saddlebags full of weed to sell it or trade it for Whiskey in the bars along the US side of the border.

The other major introduction of Marijuana to the US was with the massive flow of Mexican refugees who fled into the US from the start of the Revoltion onwards. They flooded into California and Texas, the agricultural industry of California was built by those Mexican immigrants, they worked mostly on the land in the vineyards and orchards and brought with them generations of agricultural knowledge, Mexico is the place where plant breeding and agriculture first developed after all. They definitely introduced Marijuana growing to California and Texas, any study of the police records shows that.

William Burroughs lived among the Mexicans in the Texas Panhandle in the 1940s and took up growing weed, the growing and smoking of weed being very widespread among those Mexican communities at that time.

You know better than to even bother posting in these threads........more less reading them in the first place....

=)

Hi Bobby,
If you had bothered to read this thread in the first place, or for that matter did any kind of basic research what so ever, perhaps you would not have attempted something as foolish as growing a 50% haze variety outdoors in the Appalachian mountains without a Green House?

,

I'm a fellow Appalachian, reppin Kentucky! Thanks for stopping by.

Below is a list of strains Bobby initially was planning on working with outdoors, I can remember reading this particular thread from the beginning and knowing he wasnt going to turn these plants into a nice harvest without a green house.

Strain C Testers
Mango Haze
La Nina
Medicine Man
Super Silver Haze
Early Skunk Haze
Shit
Spice
Devil
Walkabout

And of course, the crown jewel of the thread, where Bobby's finally realized that growing variety's with 50% or more haze outdoors on the East Coast simply was not going cut the mustard without a green house.

Thanks a lot for the kind comments guys.

The answer to everyone's question is: Early Haze.

Of all the strains this year, I could pick out the Early Haze from them all and it was my favorite to smoke. Last year it blew me away, too.

From now on, for me, that is all I am going to grow outdoors. Multi-strain was a pain in my ass, too, and wasn't worth the trouble. The LN didn't smoke as well as I would've liked, but then again those plants were lucky to be alive from the drought, so I shouldn't really judge them at all.

Thanks again and good luck with everyone's crops, Early Haze is the recommendation, you won't be disappointed.

You speak of your disapointment Bobby, and recommend Early Haze over all the other varieties, simply because you had no idea of what you were getting yourself into. If you had bothered to listen to those of who us who actually know what we're talking about, perhaps you would have saved money, seed and ruined marijuana? Though from the looks of it, you did not spend any significant amount of time taking care of your plants, whether they could finish in your part of the world or not.

I suppose if Bigherb and Coop can grow in the snow, you thought you had a shot at it as well? lol.

I reckon they had indica in the US in the 1910s for the Cannabis Americana project, they compared it to the Cannabis Indica imports so I expect they were growing indicas as well as sats, indicas being more suited to medicinal applications and yielding much more resin/oil so the pharma companies would have preferred indica crops methinks.

There is proof that Abraham Lincoln smoked cannabis for pleasure in the 1850s as he wrote a letter to the Hohner Harmonica company where he said he greatest pleasure was to kick back on his porch with his harmonica and a 'pipe of sweet hemp'.

Washington probably smoked it, we can't prove it but it's highly likely he did given his wooden teeth and need for pain relief and that diary entry where he wrote he had pulled the males 'rather too late'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're growing for fibre you want the males as they have as much stem as females and if you're growing for seed you leave the males to pollinate. Only if growing for sinsemilla for smoking would you pull the males methinks.

We know white folks remembered seeing black slaves smoking the flower tops from the hemp crops in the 1850s before the Civil War but they figured it was because they had no tobacco and didn't realise it got em high. I wonder how widespread cannabis use was amongst slaves? Living a slave life you would want some pleasure/oblivion through intoxication methinks. Also, hemp was one of the main crops in the South prior to the Civil War and was only replaced by cotton after the end of slavery because cotton was much less labout intensive to harvest. Hemp requires a huge amount of manpower to harvest and process, black male slaves were often valued according to how much hemp they could break in a day and breaking hemp was probably the hardest physical labour slaves had to do, really brack-breaking work, only the biggest, strongest male slaves were employed breaking hemp. After the end of slavery it was no longer economically viable to farm hemp because you had to pay your labour so the south switched to tobacco and cotton. After a day breaking hemp you would surely want to smoke some of the flowers to ease your aching muscles.

The "we don't know if George Washington smoked his hemp" thing is a giveaway to the prohibitionists in my mind. Why else would he have lamented not seperating his male and female plants if he didn't want to smoke sensimilla? If he was just cultivating for fibre it would make sense to have heavily seeded crops for next years seed stock wouldn't it?

As for greenhouses in the Appalachians, dream on, the level of enforcement against growers in the southern Appalachians in the early 80s and since totally precludes such things. Look at the records for the numbers of busts, they bust so many it was incredible, in the years 83 and 84 the Southern Appalachians - Kentucky and the neighbouring parts of the other states was second only to California in the haul of tons of seized cannabis and is widely known to have been the second biggest producing area after California.

Also, the varieties grown in that area are specific to that area and have been handed down within families, why? Because the conditions are such that a lot of strains produce inferior results and you need to be growing something adapted to the area for really good results.

Zamailto is the guy to talk to about the Appalachians and this issue, he's extremely learned in the subject and has a very different take on it to Jesse.
