Ortega pt II

Just start spraying every 3-5 days after you bring ANYTHING in and make sure that you have something. that works. Keep spraying for 3 weeks. I know to do this with peppers. Weed plants aren't so bad, but I had the mother of all aphid infestations that started from bringing some Iranian/Persian basil plants, of all things, inside to finish making seed. They are just such an intensely fragrant plant that I wouldn't have expected it. I've never had that much trouble with anything besides earwigs and slugs with weed plants though. Frankly for long term, TC seems the obvious way to go.

I think mites be ubiquitous to the weed plant.

You should try the lavender thing. Just saying...

Ortega, what a lovely strain I grew outside in North Wales a decade ago. Fat and Squatty plants and a couple of phenos from the get go. I still have an image or two kicking around and can remember one of my images was used to advertise the strain on another seed bank site.
I'm looking forward to growing some again along with another strain for neuropathic pain. Your system looks really neat and tidy may I say. I've only just got back after almost losing my mind on Lyrica and have acquired a XL Homebox Ambient and 600 watt LED. I've got a couple of Oxypots and am going to aquire another two. Maybe I'll fire up a Jugbubbler too. Wishing you All The Best,
JKP
Bore da mate 👍
I've got relatives on the mid west coast near Aberaeron, and I spent many days yonks ago fishing up north.....Bala and Trawsfynnydd. Beautiful part of the country mate ✌️

It's a shame you couldn't keep them going mate, those Ortega flowers looked amazing 👍
You did nearly make me spray my cup of tea everywhere when you said 'It smelt fruity and skunky, but now it smells like meat and shit!'
F#ckin hell mate that was funny 😆✌️
I must say I bought some Ortega seeds and all the grow reports leave me gasping to try it.....I've never tried any Mr Nice produce, ever, I'm sorry to say 👀

yes those plants were apparently of the 'cured lunch meat, gone high' variety apparently lol. i just returned to this thread today and liked all the responses : )

ran a crop between then and now of jordan of the islands seeds and learned the valuable lesson of planting in numbers and now i am back with the mns gear. 13 seeds (actually 12. had a dampening off on an mks seed), 7 nl5 skunk and 5 master kush skunk

the joti grow had wild variation, and only one plant worthy of keeping. planting 13 seeds (the max the rubbermaid tote will allow) really put things into perspective. out of the romulan x hot rod and afghani there was an outlier in each strain quite noticeable as seedlings by the stem rub and terpenes, and the keeper was the aghani

the romulan x hot rod plants had a racy high and headachy lingering burnout and two had nasty meaty poopy terps. the outlier, which bouquet dominated the grow of sweetened condensed milk, grew ultra fast and produced as much as all other plants combined and finished the fastest at six and a half weeks, but the high was racy and left a burnout

but the keeper afghani was the goldy locks plant for effects. warm come up, long enjoyable high, then dissolves with no burnout. takes two hits rather than the usual one hit and the plant grows very slow, like all the others save the producer.

so will see if i can find an msn plant to replace the afghani. they all seem to be outgrowing the joti plants that is for sure (save the producer/outlier)

i notice 4 of the nl5 skunk are perfect looking and 3 are variegated with deformity. only two of them have noticeable stem/petiole rubs and although subtle they are quite nice, both from the perfect looking plants. keeping my eye on these

the mks are a week or so behind, and the large plant is the afghani (when i discovered high nitrogen fertilizer again lol). will add the high n pellets to the rest of the crop and future crops. actually will just mix the 4-4-8 and the 7-3-3 pellets 50/50 going forward

not to start another grow journal though, will probably just check back in or start a new thread after harvest with some pics and a report when i have smoked and made a selection

as for those other afghani plants only the one that was similar to the keeper would have been worth keeping but it also had burnout. two had nose burning paint/vinegar smell and minimal thc, one of which had almost no crystals the other nanners. and another was low thc/terps also

the keeper had pine smell stem and petiole rub in veg, most crystal coverage in the garden and smelled of orange soda in flower, and finished last at 60 days. now a few weeks after chop the resin is pine with orange ju-jubs. smoking in a joint is not flavourful but i rarely find weed that does have flavour when smoked at the price i pay for weed legally. i vape anyway so all weed is tasty

and the keeper was by far an outlier from seedling stage along with that one rom x hot rod. the terps/stem rubs were beyond anything else in the garden. i can not go back to just planting a couple seeds

still it grows so slow, so on with the search of a next keeper with this mns run

those two variegated NL5S plants look really cool. the shorter one is a standout for stem rub with sweetened condensed milk and a hint of fruit. another standout NL5S smells of cat pee with a classic tangy stem rub that i know from way back (is this from thai?)

the uniformity and vigour of everything is quite nice especially for three year old seeds. still waiting for the MKS to catch up, again very uniform and healthy plants
