Ortega pt II

18 weeks since sowing and 10 weeks since i started dropping the light schedule. much of the lower leaves have fallen or pruned and it seems about a week or so left. will then let them start to wilt and turn the lights off and let them dry on the vine. will hopefully be sampling in early may. maybe will clip a top from each plant and water cure just to get an idea of potency

the cat pee is way in front for crystal coverage, then the quiet and lastly the coffee. smell is getting a bit more funky. resin on the cat pee is really nice fruity strawberry gum

coffee (top left), cat pee (top right), quiet (bottom)

Nice flowers @dankd. :) (y)
Some nice cola's there, you are indeed only a couple of weeks away from harvest.
Thanks for sharing!
thanks swifty! a couple of weeks is a good idea i will take the advice : )

just took a few pics after a shower, which i had been avoiding but realize in the right dry-sh conditions it will dry quickly with the heater on. might start misting now and then why not

Is there a specific reason why you spray them now?
I would fear mold.😅

Greetings.
was spur of the moment haha. weather was cool and dry and sunny and i had all the windows open and with the space heater between the fan and the plants they dried in under an hour(?) i guess i was thinking the spring/fall showers thing

this is unrelated but one thing i just noticed looking at the cat pee plant is for the first time ever the leaves are a deep green colour and almost better health than ever before. was thinking of getting the high n pellets to try to get it to green up and just now i was just duped thinking it was the always deep green coffee plant(!)

they are still going on the pre mixed pellets and the start of flower top dressed pellets : )

last watering was on sunday and today will be the last day with the lights on. will jar in about three or four weeks maybe(?)

most important is the preliminary testing of the three phenos after a five day, twice changed daily, water cure. just on a few tries it seems that the keeper is the cat pee, the most frostiest plant with the cool variegation. it doesn't clone like the coffee but i'll find a way

the quiet was just that, a faint high that came around in the end with the foggy eyes and contemplative mood. the coffee had some potency but not a clean high. the cat pee though is notably more potent than the others and a perfect well balanced high. initial rush and full body meld then tapering into a smooth ride with no bad effects. all phenos are long lasting which is a good thing also

cat pee also had the fruitiest sweetest resin so will be interesting to try after a proper dry and not water cured

the previous pics are the best of the run, here is the last pic from today as they are wilting (top left coffee)(top right cat pee)(bottom quiet)

thanks ray, and long live the keeper plant(!) i will call it the ort. as in, take a puff and glide to the outer reaches of the oort, er, ort cloud : )

seriously though thank goodness for that plant it is quite the nicest of the bunch. here is a pic of the variegation. i will also be replacing the fan on the floor at the entrance to the closet with ducting and a duct fan with air filter material on the intake

alas this weed ended up being too stinky for me. definitely reeking the place up of skunk when drying but ended up smelling of meat and shit, like some funky pate. mostly in the resin left after vaping/smoking, which after a few days of smoking through my usual frozen bottle, had my fridge stinking for at least a week after lol

interestingly the cbd pheno (quiet) had a decent smell without any meat

aside from that and most importantly i couldn't consume it knowing the amounts of micro fibers that i blew onto the plants, and realizing weed plants are the perfect catcher for micro fibers

good news is i put a clone of the best one (cat pee) behind where i live in a big ravine. soil is clay so will have to top dress but i don't need it to go to flower anyway just keep the genetic

was thinking of planting a bunch of seeds back there then just clip a few branches when they show sex. then i don't have to do all of that in the closet and can just flower the branches out

people walk through there so if anybody takes a plant that's ok

note to self: do not place a fan directly on plants in an open living space, use ducting/fan and air filter material on the intake

for some reason when i started growing weed again in 2019 it was my first experience with yuck weed i think it may be just the evolution of cannabis. i did grow a good pheno of ortega in 2022 though, and so far have only grown 4 females of it

never experienced weed that was off-putting back in the day. no matter how it smelled it still smelled 'good'. although as far as effects go i would say some of these funky smelling cultivars today are better because back then sometimes the stone would be too headachy and dry mouthed. even the legal weed today on the value menu no matter the appearance or potency now and then there are some peculiar smelling weeds

i need to pheno hunt i have mk skunk, critical skunk and nl5 skunk in the fridge still. maybe will start a bunch then put them in the ravine until they show sex and take cuttings of the best ones

DankD, a little small advice as you seem like a good guy but I wouldn't spray anything, even plain water on the plants once you switch to flowering hours. That's a great rule to go by. No criticism here man just advice. Also, one other thing is bringing plants from the outside to the inside is asking for trouble as far as bugs and powdery mildew plus other maladies. Inside to the outside is great but the other way around especially if you start keeping Moms will end up causing you headaches.

I don't want to be a downer but what DankD is proposing is exactly what the breeder of these seeds says to do with regards to rejuvenating mother plants. That is to put them out in the sun for a while and then take cuttings from them. So long as the daylength is long enough. Just a variation on that theme except these are not mothers they are seedplants. Admitedly caution needs to be exercised but if a cutting is taken then there is no risk of bringing pests back in the soil and the plant can be sprayed with a pesticide leading up to taking cuttings, if the need arises. You are right about putting the same plant outside and then bringing it back inside though. It's a recipe for problems later on if you intend to keep it as a mother plant. It would also be a risking infecting everything else in the room.

You can do a dip in 1-2% bleach solution for up to 20 min as per standard tissue culture technique, in terms of sanitizing the cuttings themselves. Obviously rinse well after. Then I usually leave a bit more stem than required and snip off a few mm before the hormone dip. Just saying: bleach is cheap and it is standard practice. They also still use mercury chloride solutions, but... no.

I hear what you're saying but Shanti meant an old Momma like 20 years old that needs a reset not something from a year or two ago. I get the jist though of what you meant.
