Medicine Man x Zunami Test

Hey lozac123,

Very nice trich shots. I see a lot of clear heads still with no signs of amber yet. A little ways to go yet, imo. Having all cloudy/milky heads is more important to me, personally, than seeing the amber; but you can run an experiment, to test. Harvest some buds at different stages of ripeness, to compare the effects & tastes.

Thank you FF. To be honest I did exactly that yesterday, I tried a small nug of each on the volcano. The left plant knocked me out. My tolerance is a bit high normally but I was away for a few days last week and it's come down a little. One joint of the shark is enough at the moment. Medman x zunami (left) definitely has raw power, but no euphoria that I like to look for.

However the one on the right was perfect, upbeat, made me want to go do something and giggle whilst I was doing it.

I'm away this coming week for nearly two weeks, and I am worried they will last that long. But that will bring me into week 10 which seems to be right for zunami and med man. Still juggling with will I risk it or pull them down before I go.

Very nice trich's shots, lozac123! It appears that your plants are suffering from a lack of calcium and low PH. Please check and tell me that I am wrong.

Longball
Thanks longball. So I can happily tell you you're wrong with the ph, I've just used some litmus paper and it's somewhere between 6-7, leaning closer to 6 than 7.

Calcium you may well be right, I haven't given these girls anything as the leaves are so damn green all the time, I want to run the nitrogen down a bit. I've also given them way less water than I normally do.

I've always felt that my leds push for the plants needing more cal/mag, I gave them some WSC from Korean natural farming about 2 or 3 weeks ago, but meant to get some gypsum to use as a top dressing and forgot.

Honestly I had thought that this was just the fade, as the leaves go through a process of looking more purple, then dying:

However you might have meant the spotty bits on the leaves:

I'd put this down to light/ wind burn normally, but you think it might be something else?

Thanks man

Hi @lozac123 !

Yes, I think the above picture is something else. It is always better to check and be safe than not check and be sorry. The purplish color is natural fade. This is generally due to the presence of anthocyanin, a water-soluble pigment produced by the plant. This pigment can appear either due to the plant's genetic makeup or in response to environmental factors like a potassium deficiency or low temperatures. A lot of anthocyanin in the genetic makeup in the plant can also produce reds, yellows, and oranges. The colors will depend on the PH.

These brown/rust spots do not look like natural fade to me(sitting here thousands of miles away).

If you check any calcium deficiency charts, the plants will have brown/rust spots like yours. I would like to be wrong but I also will speak up if I think I see a problem. Better safe than sorry.
Example of calcium deficient plant. Not fade. Look like same colors as yours.

These yellow/brown leaves also look calcium deficient. Color in plants are caused by chemicals and nothing else. Too little, just perfect, too much, changes the color. Often the color change is a message to us. Again, if you look at a calcium deficiency chart you will see leaves like these yellow/brown leaves that match yours. Generally brown/rust colors are not considered 'fade' colors. Fade colors tend to lean to yellow, purple, orange, gold, red, blue. Also, you are using LEDS which leads some people to have a calcium deficiency.
Your plants:

Calcium deficiency. This is not natural fade. Looks very much like your leaves. I hope that I am wrong about this, but either way we will learn something so that's win-win for us.

Windburn: Wind does not cause brown spots - chemicals or lack of do. Wind causes your plants to look like this. Notice there is no color change. I don't think you have windburn. In fact, I hope you don't have any problems at all and these are just the ramblings of a crazy old man.

Correct, and thank you @Skuncle Lenny. Commenting on something I think I am seeing from thousands of miles away. If there is a problem, hope I helped, if there is not a problem, hope I learn. It was a tricky one. I thought about it for 24 hours. Do you keep quiet? Do you mention it? Do you DM the person? Perhaps we can all learn something. Try to help? Yes! Criticize? Absolutely not! Tactful? I have been told that I am honest but have no tact lol 🤷‍♂️

Longball man, and to anyone one else out there, the main reason I am posting this stuff online is for feedback- I want to be as good a grower as possible. Zero criticism received man, please tell me (and I am sure other users feel the same way), if there's something wrong I want to know!

So super interesting man, I really didn't think I had an issue. I am gonna give them a watering now. I'll give them some wsc and see how they go. Thank you for going into such detail, calcium really is something I haven't bothered so much with. Will buy some gypsum to use as a top dressing, but will use the wsc now. Thinking about it, the nettle mix I made probably also has some calcium in.

You can tell I've had a joint of the upbeat shark- I'm rambling.

So I am going to make a compost tea, I'll include the nettle mix, molasses, dynomyco, wsc mix, and some kelp. I'll let this sit in a bubbler till tomorrow.

Today I will give them a dose of wsc. Wish me luck!

Good Luck, @lozac123! :) Hopefully there is no problem, good to keep an eye on each other. I did spot a spider mite on Mr. Brown's plant once. Another reason for good photography - I take a few pictures of each plant, load the pics on my computer, blow them up, then check each plant on my 37 inch monitor. I spot 99% of my problems that way. I see bugs, spider webs, lint ;), PM, mold, eggs, rust spots, all things that I have no chance of seeing with these old eyes. I go back out and fix the problem right away.

Never had a calcium problem so I can't say much. I sure read plenty about it on this forum, especially with RO water and/or LEDS. Perhaps someone with experience will chip in? A simple search on the word calcium brings up a lot of members names ;) lol

For sure longball. Lots of people deny it saying it's new growers, but I have come across it a lot. A quick Google highlights I'm not alone.

To be honest, I think this will be my last run on leds. Years ago I grew with HPS, and LEDs have never wowed me, particularly in terms of smell.

However! I think you are bang on right long ball. I remember reading a whole back someone mentioned if the plants weren't smelling very strong, you might have a calcium or magnesium deficiency. I opened the tent to them stinking this morning. Not sure if they're that bit riper, or if the water soluable calcium worked its magic already. So I think they were a touch low on calcium.

Thank you again for the heads up!

Its day 60. To chop or not to chop. I've sampled both now in the volcano, lovely smoke can't wait to try the final product. The left plant is extremely indica dom. Sent me for a nap which is not my personal favourite, but it is nice for sleeping. The right plant is exactly what I look for, energetic, focused but strong af. I did try it again yesterday and it was a touch more indy.

I am away for just over a week, so if I dont pull today I will have to wait around 10 days before I am able to do it. Can't decide if it will push these too far or not. Looking at these pics on a big screen, I see much more amber than what the screen of the camera shows (thanks for the tip @longball ), so I am leaning towards pulling them now, especially with a potential calcium deficiency that I wont be able to control while I am away.

Trich shots from today:

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I will wait for a bit of a cure before doing a full smoke report but everything is dry now (a little too dry to be honest, but alas I cannot control everything when I am away, I have learnt my lesson- don't flip until you know you'll be at home!).

This is extremely powerful smoke, I am very impressed. It has given me much more of a taste for indicas. Smoked in a small amount (I use the volcano) I was laughing and giggling with my wife. Two volcano bags of one of the plants I am so stoned I cannot focus on anything. Tried to listen to a podcast and youtube video, and I couldn't actually understand the English that they were saying. The more upbeat one is similar, but a bit less euphoric. Both are happy, and the kind of stuff that if you got a bag of it from your guy you'd be left wanting more. The high at the moment is one of the craziest I've experienced in length, I can still feel it 6 hours after having some- maybe not so much a day time smoke unless you want to spend it in bed!

Thank you again for the opportunity @musashi and @shantibaba, this one was/is really special.
