I don't know why you guys are misunderstanding each other & taking it personal, literally just watched you two go sour!
I think Hempy was not talking about the Thai stick & Mr Fecund was. I don't think Hempy was trying to down Ace or Mr.F, but pointing out these 3 are not pure, non-hybirdized lines.

i never tried to say they were pure infact before hempy baging them out for not selling pure stock so just in it for the money i was actually talking about a hybrid from that company.

Dr Purpur i'd like to see those crosses.

hey hempy how are you mate?

from only what ive read theres is or at least was a mango and a carrot zamal type and possibly a third that may have been a mix of the two. but as it wasnt me smoking them i can not tell you that fact or fiction.

i was gonna answer you before as to why it was hybridized and not preserved. well dubi said that himself, it was his intention to reproduce the strain, just he couldnt find a worthy male at the time, in fact he is still hoping for a male for that line.

and sorry hempy you are wrong champ. ACE is offering two different thais, two lines made up of three original thais, they are also offering a Malawi line. champ ive been reading this stuff only today. dubi was talking about creating a pure malawi from his killer mallawi clone and he's seedline he'd recieved at the same time line back in 2008 or so, saying he was working on one. so to release one today i would say hes put some work into it.

i'll just assume that you weren't aware that ACE was offering pure/regional ibl lines otherwise there would be no reason to tell everyone that ACE dosent sell regular seed of thai or malawi and thats why there only after money.

Mr Fecund you did say it and i sed they do not you then you had a melt down and became nasty your problem by the way not myn.

I know what land races are i grew many i also call them pure as they breed true and each seed grows out the same as the next .

I have pure lines i have hybrids to i have hybrid lines i have stabilized i have even breed different a set hybrid and taken that hybrid line 2 different directions thats what i call breeding fellas preservation - adding or removing and stabilizing traits in hybrids and throwing hybrids at each other to me is not breeding thats just throwing pollen and hoping for the best.

If you want Thai or land races the only person that i know of that offered them is the real seed company now the last time i looked he only had 2 lines a Nepalese and some other but i am sure he will have Thai again at some stage i do not know what there like tho.

The Thai lines you want are those that people smoked up until 85 to 87 after that it was never the same.

dr. purpur, i'm glad you mentioned your experiences when the real columbian red was available cause i would like to pose a couple of questions or perhaps ideas that have bothered me for awhile. ime the panama red hit the shores before the columbian red and both of these items were so exquisite but yet unique, that even today they can only be compared to each other. i have always felt that both of these varieties came from the same seed? you spoke of the gooey nature, the bales oozed resin that glued themselves together and the dark red color was spectacular. it was obvious they were grown in similar locales in the respective countries which imo is the reason no grower is able to replicate the goo. the black columbian aka 'wacky weed' is the only other strain that was similar in qualities with the reds. some claimed it was better but i don't know? it did have more resin but was difficult to burn. peace-biteme

The Old Columbian Red was very earthy-spicey, lung expanding, psychodelic and relaxing. The smoke was thick and hung heavy in a room. I remember thinking it looked like it had a blue hue. I was told the unique flavor was from how they processed the buds. They were allowed to get a special mold.
That weed would make your eyes as red as cherries. LOL

funny debates guys as always
i have deep respect to work by ace and cbg folks! in those times, they are rulers of sativa genopool, all others are without doubt far away from them
you can speculating how much of what they offering are polyhybrids, but you dont think about work behind those, due to which i like them as they go way i personally like too
they tried a lot first hand landraces from all around the world, grew tens and thousands of, and of course did a lot preservation matings, but simply more or less for personal purposes
just the selected spectacular individuals are choose for producing commercially attractive sativas (of which is even so poor interest), or matings with other related bloods like that double thai etc
they are very kind and im sure if you hit them with some individual question, you will amazed what they can provide from their libary
so this is far away from taking diesel and crossing to another modern cultivar, which again produce +- equal quality
for example kaiki from cbg have killer collection of various colombians, already a lot preselected clones keep, but as he says if he want do a more over his standard, will ending with less, they are truly careful in what they doing, im sure lotsa goodies like columbian hybrids will come in next years
mentioned THAI is nice example for it all.. guys you have had here between us amazing oldtimer who tried many thais from various regions he collected himself in 80, he leaved this place due to bullshit all around
and as he said, just may 2-3 individuals from 100 thais are worth interest, all others lacking something (e.g. good potency but poor flower formation even at 24week) and even so
therefore if somebody offering selected Koh Chang female dusted with proven n amazing Meao thai male, then it is a demand

I did not call ace seeds lines polys the poly hybrids are from the guys in this thread that are talking about crossing hybrid to hybrid that is a poly hybrid read what people say before you have a melt down in future.

I dont care how much work ace seeds and or there breeding buddy's do to a set hybrid line it still remains a hybrid and that's the fact of the matter isn't it.

When any one talks of preservation regarding land races friend that means making them avaluble to people so they are not lost and creating hybrids of these lines dose nothing for preserving them long term dose it.

A hybrid is a hybrid i have grown pure lines starting in the 70s and have grown hybrids to some hybrids i value as much as landraces not a lot but a few but the truth is what it is and if your going to offer panama then it should be a panama line not a panama hybrid of 2 or 3 different lines hybridized that's a panama hybrid isn't it but they have stated it in there strain info but some customers some how feel there growing pure panama well there not are they there growing a panama hybrid..

If oldtimer was growing collecting Thais then why did he give a sativa line to pacific to grow and make seed as he couldn't were he was that line by the way later got called oldtimer haze this is really more about $ and nothing more.

The person that got gifted the OThaze that was an un named sativa by the way was wolf man he managed to get a few up find a male and fem and preserve it they forgot about his efforts in all this to fancy that and oldtimer1 gets the credit and a plant named after him why.

If people want to offer hybrids fine and dont make out there landraces or your some how preserving these genetics when all your doing is preserving parent lines for your hybrids that go into making your hybrids.

Oldtimer also made claims he was responsible for the genetics that went into creating sk and nl i believe i wounder how the old guys in cali would feel about that.

Smoke and mirrors that's all it is.

mullimbimby madness?

Much respect to grower KOG! I wonder if he is growing MM in this awesome video...

Yeow Mark

You're about to grow an old sativa crossing that came to Ozz from Thailand in the form of stick(buddah) in the late 50's. She was passed onto me in the mid 70's by me departed Uncle, though I had seen him grow here many times since I was young. This a strain Mark that can yield massive outdoors, and is the most IndoorFriendly Sat I know. IT stretches stuff all. Indoors she can finish anywhere from 90-110 days and it produces some one of the most focussed stones around. Focussed yet strong and very soaring but not debilitating. Has NO ceiling. The more you smoke, the more stoned you get. If you gave the smoke to soemone who was a choofer in the 60'and 70's in the States, it'll vividly remind them of the old days mate. No one refuses this smoke, and everyone who tries it will tell you it is one of the finest smokes around. When grown out, it has an incredibly long shelf-life. A year later she smokes better than when she is fresh - like the Nam and many other near pure sativas.

The strain spread to every corner of ozz as in those days we only had sats and satDom. The sticks it came in at the time went everywhere also. You could by the for years in any part of Ozz. Sometimes Sins, sometimes seeded. When seeded only 1-5% of the seeds weren't crushed. We had hardly any indicas apart from a few IBLs, and they were as rare as hens teeth anyway. I have a mate who's known KOG since he was a boy and I had passed it onto him 2 decades ago. KOG loved her so much he devoted himself as keeper of the strain. So as long s KOG lives, she'll be around - and he doesn't look like he's about to leave us in a great hurry anyway - fit as a fiddle and living the clean life just outside of Nimbin in Kyogle.

The Old Columbian Red

I was getting this Columbian Red in the mid '70's, we just called it "red bud". This batch I got in '75 was exceptional, I got 2 lbs of that batch. I split all but 1/2 lb into oz's wanting to keep 1/4 to 1/2 lb as stash. Some guy came over and bought an oz and came back in 45 min wanting to buy a 1/4 or 1/2 lb. I told him I didn't have that much and had it all broken up in oz's and had promised some to people. He said he went back and smoked some with friends and they all wanted it. He said he would buy 6 oz at the oz price, didn't care about a discount...he (and they) just had to have it.

I kept 1/4 lb for myself and rest was gone within 24 hrs. I really wish I would have saved some seeds. Oh well, who knew.

There were seeds alright. They were small and black. I think it was $400-$450 per LB, and 40 bucks an ounce.
I grew some of the seeds but never got mature bud for a variety of reasons. As a prank, some buddies planted several hundred Columbian Red seeds in my Moms flower pots. They were everywhere.
If I remember correctly DJ Short tried to bud out some of those back then and was unsuccessfull

Even then though we are from different parts of the country, we must have grown up in the same neighborhood, lol.

your timing is spot on betterhalf, early to mid70s was the hot time and what i witnessed came entirely out of the state of florida with the panama being first. if you saw both varieties atm you would have sworn they were peas out of the same pod. and in short order the reds were gone although high quality columbian bales continued to fill the void. after a run of the reds, the wholesale/retail crowd sniffed at the more commercial type of columbian boo that took its place but i would kill for a bale of the rainbow today. imho, the 70s were truly the golden era for smokers. i do not have a handle on what went on prior to the 70s but there certainly were not the choices available like i saw and in the 3+ decades since, i have seen nothing to compare to those quality imports of that time.

some folks theorize that the cocaine trade screwed things up. perhaps, but i think world wide demand also grew too fast and created its own set of problems. but alas, those were the days. peace-biteme

Carrot Haze

The carrot garden has the richest and deepest soil in my gardens. The multi colored carrots are now picked, peeled, sliced, and frozen away. The pepper plants, and herbs in that plot have been moved to other plots, and the Onions and shallots were picked as well.
Once the plot was entirely cleared, it was deep tilled with a good dose of blood meal and chicken manure. The plants are going in right now. The fenced in area has 100 square feet of grow space, and is 6 foot tall.

Wonderful Doc...are those the ones that got tipped by the critter?

high quality columbian bales...i would kill for a bale of the rainbow

Hello biteme.

We used to call the rainbow "Christmas Tree". When I used to visit friends in Fla in those days, when ever we went out fishing, we always kept an eye out for floating "square groupers".
