Developing a Strain Database

And the answer was Nevil?

I have been through the later Sensi catalogues to see what other strains they have sold since 96 and it's not many:

First Lady
American Dream
Jack Flash
Mother's Finest
Marley's Collie
Jamaican Pearl
Maple Leaf Indica
Guerilla's Gusto

Just wondering if any of those are Nev's work. He's already mentioned Jack Flash, maybe Maple Leaf Indica is also from Nev?

Just trying to make sure we don't miss out anything sold by Sensi that was made by Nev.

There was also African Queen, which was offered briefly in the early 1990's.

Well spotted jim. However, I'm already ahead of ya and African Queen is already in the database. I mentioned it in a prior post, not sure what it is, I suspect it could be the Hash Plant/Northern Lights #1 x Swazi that Nev sold through The Seedbank given a new name by Sensi.

Sensi's description for African Queen:

We have crossed our best South African strains to make this vigorous Indica/Sativa hybrid. The strain produces resinous buds with a sweet, fresh taste and excellent potency.

Swazi seems a likely ingredient-- I've had some experience with TFD's Swazi Safari, and the flavors & aromas were undeniably similar. There was certainly some heavy indica in African Queen, though I'm not going to hazard a guess. HP/NL1 seems as likely as any.

Hi Scorpion
Did shanti specify who exactly made the seeds you have Scorpion?
Well l33t,how many times does a man have to say it?
YES is the answer.
hi Scorpion ,
Only once man..as long as its perfectly clear what are you are saying. I am sorry I was insisting and kept being uncertain earlier..but if you had clearly said from the begining that it was Shanti that told you the seeds you got were made by Nevil (and that those were G13xWW F1) , I wouldn't have been confused or kept having my doubts. But nowhere did you mention that and when I read this from you below, it seemed to me that even you were uncertain about what you got :
Scorpion said:
"well ,you are mistaken.if I can find it I will post the quotes"
"So if you read this the way I do.."
it seemed that what you claimed having was based on Shanti's words from those public posts and not on info you were told directly. If you had said from the start Shanti had told you these were Nevil's seeds I wouldn't have any doubt or asked again.I was simply being cautious before arriving to any definite conclusions is all. Thank you for the clarification now, I never knew Nevil had made G13WW that survived till this day before this thread came up , so thanks that was something new to learn. I 'm happy to hear you have some of these old rare seeds Scorpion. Those went to good hands for sure!

Hi British Hempire,

Regarding Maple Leaf Indica , yes I believe it was Nev's too and if not mistaken originally came from Jim Ortega.
Will have to double check that though and let you know for sure.

Here is a post from Nevil on the MLI:

"maple leaf indica according to Ed R (same book) is: Female Ortega15 x Sam afghan skunk X male Skunk 18.5. Any idea if this is correct?"
Nevil said:
I don't know what Ed is calling Maple leaf.
Ortega 15 was Maple leaf. This was crossed with AfgTx Sk and AfgS x sk males.
AfgT and AfgS were both sisters and pure maple leaf. Maybe Ed thought that AfgS meant Afg(Sam). It doesn't. The hybrid Ed is talking about is 3/4 Maple Leaf.

From:http://www.mrnice.nl/forum/59005-post24.html

Keep up the good work bh

EDIT : MLI is indeed from Jim Ortega:
The Maple Leaf came from a guy known to me as Jim Ortega. We traded seeds for a while. Not only did he supply me with Maple Leaf, but also Garlic Bud and Kush 4. The cannabis smoking world owes him a lot.

The Maple Leaf line provided me with a plant that I labeled Afghan T. This plant is the mother of Super/Ultra Skunk and also crossed well with HzC.

Kush 4, I crossed with NL2(which had the same Kush smell) and this Kush Hybrid is the foundation of todays Kush lines.

Garlic bud has also made it's presence felt and is part of todays super yielders.

Let me say one more thing about ML AfgT. This plant had exactly the same smell as Sams best SK1 but more so. It is the true Skunk archetype. I do not believe for one N.Y. minute that Afghani#1 is behind the SK1, which IMO gives credence to the Mendecino Joe story about SK1.

The world owes you a big Thank You Jim!
Let me be the first to say that I appreciate the work that you have done.
N.

Thanks l33t. I knew that a Maple Leaf Indica came from Jim Ortega but I don't know how that relates to the lineage of the Sensi strain of the same name, we know roughly what it is from what Ed R wrote but be nice for Nev to confirm the precise pedigree of that breed,

Hiya Jim

Swazi Safari was/is Swazi x Skunk #1, you can still buy Swazi x Skunk from Seedsman and TFD are still doing the Swazi Safari. I have never done either but I have grown the African Seeds Swazi which took 14 weeks and the Nirvana Swazi which I think is also Swazi x Skunk, both were interesting but very airy so I crossed the best one to a Blueberry male, never got round to growing any out but I like the rich dark earthy tastes of a Swazi.

GHSco. 1998/99

GHS seeds launched in 1995 with Shanti's breeds, so I need to track down old GHS catalogues now, anyone got any old GHS stuff? We need to cover 95-2000 which brings us upto the Mr Nice years.

I think I remember that there was at least one previous catalog but it only had less strain.

Here is the catalog from 98/99 which is the last year Shanti was in charge of the breeding at GHSco.
Will post the MNS 2001 cat. later.

Peace.

maybe Maple Leaf Indica is also from Nev?
Yep and I got it from Jim Ortega.
Most of those "new" Sensi varieties were from stock that I had been trialling. When I left, I offered to clean up all the useless backup cuttings I had made. The Jamaican was one of them. Ben obviously thought I was trying to sabotage him and insisted on keeping them. It was all crap and I pity people who bought seeds from them after I left. Lots of diversity there for people who want to save the gene pool though ;)

Thanks for posting the GHS catalogue Kash, that was useful to check I hadn't missed any of those strains out. I have seen earlier GHS catalogues that had some other strains as well, White Wyng was one I remember, god nows what that one was.

I haven't found the cannabible, sadly, I had a pdf of it in the past I know, so I've not been able to include the 1989 catalogue in my research which is why I'm missing the G13 x Haze C, I know that one was in the 89 catalogue.

Thanks for the answer on the MLI Nev. Do you know what the the lineage of the Sensi MLI seeds was?

Also, what was Sensi's Hindu Kush?

Nev, if I list the strains I don't have the lineages for, would you mind telling us what they are so I can fill in the blanks? Once I've fileld in all the blanks I can finish filling in the details on flowering time, expected yield etc I've been taking from the Mr Nice and Seedbank descriptions and we have a working database, not complete, but a large part of the way to being so.

thats a long list already and knowing Shanti and Nevil have worked on many more lines I can only imagine how much work went behind breeding all these strains!
Here is some info Shanti had posted some time ago where old lines made from Shanti/Nevil are listed. Most are may not be of interest but a few words from Nevil would be nice.

Anyhow there were alot of other things like Heavy Duty Fruity Nug, Richard Davis, Alaskan Thunder Fu-k, and the list goes on KGB, as the memories come back I will write. I have all of these things in seed stock from the early 90s and before.Maybe one day I will get around to putting them back into stock for those who are interested."

Do you know what the the lineage of the Sensi MLI seeds was?

In the two years I worked as a consultant for Sensi, I got Their/ My genetics in order. They didn't have anything of their own. If I was handing it on to my son, I couldn't have done more. I wanted to throw out the trash before I left but Ben thought I was like him. I'm not. Anything I had, Sensi had. That doesn't mean they knew how to use it. They didn't, don't and never will.
You could give me a Stradivarius violin, it doesn't mean I can play it.

Ben must be rather two-faced cos his public image is such a nice, smily happy dutch stoner guy but I've heard so many storied of his cut-throat business moves that his happy front must be just that, a front. Glad I never bought more than a couple of packs of Sensi seeds over the years now I know the truth about em. If Nev hadn't resurfaced, who would ever have known?

Thanks for reminding me about that post l33t, I have referred to it when making my list of strains but I wasn't sure what to include, I did include Master Kush as it's a well-known strain but I don't know if shanti ever sold it through greenhouse or whether it was just kncoked off by Dutch Passion and others. I didn't include Gravity because the only example I can think of where it was used was a THSeeds hybrid.

I am missing the lineages for 19 strains now, If I list them we can try to find the answers between us, I'm sure Nev can remember what a lot of these are:

African Queen (Is this the (HPxNL1)xSwazi renamed?
Black Domina (Garlic Bud, Afghan and what else?)
California Indica (Cali Orange x indica?)
Early Girl (maybe not known as it was received as seeds?)
Early Pearl
Early Pearl Improved
Four and More
Garlic Bud
Hash Plant Pure
Hindu Kush
Indisat (came from same so maybe unknown?)
Jack Herer (mother was a NL5HzCxSk1HzC but what was the father?)
Juicy Fruit (Thai x indica, but what indica?)
Ruderalis Indica
Ruderalis Sativa (listed as Ruderalis crossed to Thai and Mexican)
Ruderalis Indica/Sativa
Sensi Skunk
Shiva Shanti (Garlic bud and what else?)
Shiva Shanti II (cross of Shiva Shanti?)

The White Wyng was in a picture of a catalogue posted by Raco at icmag.

I notice Master Kush and Oasis (NL#2) were released in 1994 by Dutch Passion, i wonder if Shanti sold those lines to them as it's a year before Greenhouse Seeds was launched?

Oh, I forgot to mention there are two more lineages I'm slightly unsure of:

Durban from Sensi, is that the same as the South African D.P. 34?

Mexican Sativa from Sensi, it's listed as Oaxcan, Durban and Pakistani, but I'm guessing it's Oaxacan x Pollypak. Pollypak is Pollyanna (a Mexican-derived strain) crossed to a Pakistani sativa. If I'm right, was the Oaxacan the same as the Mexican (Oaxacan #2) listed in the early Seedbank catalogues?

bit off topic i knw bt didnt wana start a new thread jst for 1 question and im sure one you guys will knw, is their any seed bank still selling pure hash plant? been looking for ages bt only hybrids are around... cheers guys...mrc

Seedsman were selling Hashplant, not sure if they still have it. I grew a pack a couple of years ago and didn't think they were Hashplant, they were lanky and airy with thin leaves. I too would like a pure Hashplant, I liked the hashy taste and it yielded really big.

Just noticed this post:

Looking at the description under strains doesn't make it clearer to me. You'll have to ask Shanti. I know I made some EP.SK1 X NL5.HzC seeds. MNS sold them but I can't remember the name. Names don't mean much to me. Super Skunk, Ultra Skunk, Nordle. It's all AfgT x SK1 to me.
N.

Got me wondering, is Nordle the same thing as Super Skunk or are the parents different plants yet they are both AfgT x SK1?

Also, I have the lineage of Early Queen down as Early Pearl x (Super Skunk x Early Girl), is this correct?

yer grew out seedmans H/P in 08, mine were lanky bar 1 pheno that did resemble pure H/P but lost her.. i as seedmans if they still had any seeds but told me the ones i had in 08 was the last they had.. no other seed bank u no of??

I don't know of any pure hashplant seeds, maybe one of the fem banks has some S1s. There are hybrids out there, Subcool seeds did one caleld Conquistador.
