Developing a Strain Database

Hang on, where do you get the idea there are two strains, one with G13Skunk x Widow and the other with G13 x Widow? The latter is not in my list, never heard of it.

The G13 clone died before shanti started making his hybrids so he used a selected mother from the G13 x Skunk cross that Nev made and never released, shanti has said this himself hasn't he?
well I do know and thats all you need to know...
That sounded harse ,not meant that way.
Shanti did not make G13ww Nevil did with Shanti widow pollen.
ask him,he's here now so ask him.

I'm sure Nevil will chime in when he has time. I'm not doubting your word but I am insisting on making 100% sure we get all the details right so we need to get Nev's input.

If the G13 x Widow was only given out to a select few and not used in any other breeds then we don't need to include it, do we?

I think I'll wait until shanti can clarify this before making any changes.
it is a pedigree plant Damn right we use it.
one of the few 50% g13 seed left ya know.
Shanti gave me the seeds and you can ask him that too.
btw I am searching for the quotes, check the g13 thread and shanti posts related to it.
he plainly states that is how Nevil made the intial G13skunk and G13ww F1 seed by
" Nevil useing his g13 clone and pollenateing it to Shantibabas Skunk1 and Widow Males."

Let's get shanti and nev to verify this, I'd feel happier if we did.

I'm not sure if we need to include strains that weren't available to the public or used in other breeds. For example, Nev has mentioned the NL#5 that was backcrossed 8 times, he never got to sell those due to going to jail, should we include those? I don't think so in that case but it's really upto Nevil I think to decide.

Nevil worked for some years with the female clone G13 until it died.
At this time he combined certain traits to gain original parent lines to preserve the G13 in a form that would express its genes.
He passed me many years ago a seeds already to go on with...
and before that I had passed on male pollen from the widow and the skunk#1 I was using...as we both did on several occasions.

When I got those seeds from Nevil they were labelled G13/sk.
I therefore did a selection and combined the selected female to both males...skunk#1 and widow.
But Nevil had also done a combination with the G13 to the widow pollen as well as the skunk #1 pollen and in fact several others like G13/haze, G13 /ortega...and a few obscure others. The work I did was interbreeding then combining the 3 generation interbreed with the orignal male again...thus adding the strain description with the extra male label.During the interbreebing stages the main criterion was to select for G13 traits and not the Skunk, but considering all of you prefer to be definite as far as possible with the origins I liked to explain all the possible influences that the breed could express in F1 form.

Since this is not so simple to explain as breeding sometimes is it was simplified to the current description.
Let me add I still have those old seeds of Nev as well as several lines of interbred seed at different stages so everything in my work can be replicated.
As for the work from Nev, it cannot be replicated as there is no longer the pure G13 female. Hope that clears up as much as possible the ancestry of this question.
All the best Sb

So if you read this the way I do,the G13WW F2 seeds I have are quite valuable,to me anyway,as a breeding plant,Maybe.
I do know they are very pretty, vigorus and have a wonderful flavor. Some are very narcotic too.

You're lucky to have those Scorpion, sounds like some rare babies.

I'm still not sure if I should include these rarities though, not if they haven't played a part in any breeds. Maybe I should put them in so that if they are used in any future breeds the info is already there?

well here is a Pedigreed F1Hybrid that is made from g13ww plants
YETI.JPG

this will generally cure that bland skunk.
this seed is not sold ,it's just made to grow ,ya?

Scorpion, this database is for Nevil and shanti's work, we can't include other people's work otherwise it would take forever. Maybe later we can look at broadening the scope.

I see,no problem.
I did not want to include this plant pedigree I just wanted you to have as many Seed Bank originals on your list.
however the G13WW is Nevil's and Shanti's combined efforts?

In the early 90's I lived out in West Virginia and bought a ton of "G13", Afghan, Has Plant, and something else.

Nev's strains were everything back then. Then, GH was the shit, and it was Nev and Shanti. MNS is currently the shit, see a pattern?

I hope Nev sticks around. Shanti seems about as good a partner a guy could ask for. Very even tempered and good hearted.

They have both always been associated with having the best. It is a good partnership. I am anxious to see what happens when Nev can get back to an active roll in the popping, growing, and selecting and really can't wait to see the joint projects.

It is crazy when you think of how much happened because of Nev. Sure, Sam played his part of the game, an important one. Nev, on the other hand, mastered the game and the world was changed as a result. To deny this is to have a total disregard of historical fact.

Scorpion, when we have the pedigree system up and running, people will be able to add to it so then we can include other people's work. If they have pictures and have documented their work carefully then it will be easy to fit it in to the database, I forsee having a web form where people can add their work.

Because we are just getting going I think it's enough to focus on Nevil and Shanti breeds for the time being, just those gives me a lot of work to do.

Thanks for your input though, it's very helpful.

There's 85 strains in my list so far and I'm sure I've missed a few, then there's all the other stuff that Nev and Shanti made that has been used by others. Their contribution is massive and a lot of other people have simply ridden on their coattails.

I should add, Nev certainly hooked his cart to the right horse when he decided to team partner with Shanti. In a world where everyone with a few seeds and an envelope considers themselves a breeder, Shanti has risen to the top.

You have said you had handed out some of the key building blocks, yet Mr Nice is considered the high end. Shanti has not only taken your work and continued the quality, he has introduced and refined the genetics more than anyone out there when there is more "competition" than there are beers of the world.

You may be impulsive Nev, but it is obvious you do a lot of thinking on the things that matter.

I have a ton of respect for Nev, Shanti, and Howard. It would be really nice to talk to Howard, "the face man", sometimes around here. Maybe set up a moderated chat for members? I have seen Shanti say he was with Howard recently, the whole Nordle thing, but I have never seen Howard talk about this seed company. It would be great to have someone ask all 3 of them the same questions and hear their responses. It would be great to hear stories from each of them They could get the three of them together for some stories and such. It would bring a lot of business for the seed company, having three legends in the industry, who now work together, reminisce. You guys could finance it and have MNS adverts, like HULU has adverts from who ever pays the most $$$, as well as MNS product placement.... and use! Let the people see what you are smoking, before you roll it!! It could bring a lot of traffic.

Reading the above , I understand that Nevil did cross Widow (Shanti's WW pollen) to G13 before the G13 died.
Nevil also made G13 x SK1 with Shanti's pollen as it seems and also did other G13 crosses like G13Haze etc.

So you are right Nevil did have G13WW which is different to what MNS sells today(which is G13SKxWW according to Shanti).

Problem is that Shanti clearly stated that what he got from Nevil from the G13 line was just G13SK1 seeds from Nevil:

Hi guys
Did not really miss the post....but was more interested to see what chat you sparked amongst yourself.Since there are a roller coaster of stories going about, re the G13.
Whatever the stories are that have entertained the punters till now probably all have a little truth mixed with myth. All with merit.
What I know in a nut shell is that the G13 plant was taken from the research facility some time ago and Nev managed to get it as a clone back to NL.There many things were tried without very much consistency, except with the skunk male to the G13.It was the only real crossing that gained results along a semi consistent line. That was quite some years back.Since then many people believe that buying the G13 released crosses and breeds perpetuated the story. However the story was for me all a little out of proportion. It usually is the product of many people dreaming of catching the big fish....
Up until 1 year ago I was not a G13 participant.I had seen it years back when it was all new and exciting but it did not do too much for me.No real flavour, strong sure but lacking on many other important sides.I recently learnt that the G13 lost alot of vigour at Sensi a long time back untill they eventually lost the original mother line.Nev gave me the only seed he felt was worth to go on with in this line (over 6 years ago) since he was retired from that world. It had been hanging above a fire place for more than 2 years prior. It was one of the last things that had had no time to look into due to other reasons.Kind of left on the shelf. The things that are being used for G13 combinants are all very removed and probably explains the pot luck kind of plants that turn up.But I have made some selections and with consultations and some old hand advice it looks we are back on track. There are currently 9 females and 7 males that are being combined and gone on with...a bit laborious but the only way when we are left with such a small sample.I will post some photos soon here to show you all what we are up to.Till then all the best Shantibaba

In the above post Shanti said that Nev gave him only G13 SK seeds but below he says different :

Shantibaba said:
the G13 cutting was crossed to a skunk male in the early 90's when the G13 cutting seemed to be on its way out. Nev did several crosses to combine the genes before the plant became extinct in its pure female form. So I went on with several of these lines one is G13skunk(female) combined with the widow male(same widow used for the BW, MM ,La N and SS).

Shanti offers currently more G13 hybrids , so I guess he did get more than one G13 line (hybrid) from Nev.

Anyway , If Shanti told you clearly that the seeds you got are made by Nev himself then yes what you have must be Nevs G13 X WW.
If Shanti made the seeds you got..then it must be G13SK x WW and be same thing as what MNS offers as G13WW.
Did shanti specify who exactly made the seeds you have Scorpion?

Maybe now would be a good time to mention I have a batchelor's degree in film and tv production and would be very keen to shoot some video for Mr Nice anytime, anywhere they'll let me enter, if Holland I'll have to sneak in over the border from Belgium, still have some, ahem, legal issues relating to a large number of Cheese cuttings and a jar of oil. But apart from that, I can go anywhere anytime and shoot anything ya want!

I'd love to interview Howard and I don't live far from Wales. Maybe sometime I could arrange to interview him, people on the forum here could submit the questions they want me to ask him beforehand and send in samples of mindblowing Mr Nice gear for Howard as bribery and coercion! lol

That's not a bad idea coop, although I'm more than happy to fill in all the info myself if people can post it here in the thread, I have the time on my hands. I'm currently typing up the catalogue descriptions.

Once I've got a fully populated database together someone else is going to have to work with me to put together some scripting and forms to link the thing to a web interface. I can do the database and put it into SQL format and I can do the HTML for the web interface itself but I can't do the coding to link it all together, so if anyone can do that part, please step forward! I'm thinking PHP with a MySQL database would be best, that would make it easy to get it hosted just about anywhere as it's a very common combo PHP-MySQL.

And the answer was Nevil?

I have been through the later Sensi catalogues to see what other strains they have sold since 96 and it's not many:

First Lady
American Dream
Jack Flash
Mother's Finest
Marley's Collie
Jamaican Pearl
Maple Leaf Indica
Guerilla's Gusto

Just wondering if any of those are Nev's work. He's already mentioned Jack Flash, maybe Maple Leaf Indica is also from Nev?

Just trying to make sure we don't miss out anything sold by Sensi that was made by Nev.

I've been trying to track down the precise lineage of Black Domina and I'm still not clear, I think it might be (Garlic Bud x Ortega) x (Hashplant x NL#1).

Black Domina was a 4 way indica hybrid I made for Sensi. I was going for big seeds/bracts with large resin globules on stalked glands. People seemed to want bigger yields, so I substited Garlic bud for one of the indicas. I don't know what has been happening at Sensi since then.
I liked the version with the big seeds and large stalked glands.

I also had another indica which would "shed" its resin at the drop of a hat. I was going to cross that into the Black Domina. You can see where I was going with this!

Ah well, it never happened and such is life.

Don't fret, it's still in the land of what dreams may come!
N.

Nev, can you clarify the lineage of Black Domina please?
