Breeding techniques

The only person talking shit is you Pete and your starting to piss me off no need to be rude Pete your WRONG very WRONG and its not my logic Pete.

Only just pissing you off!.. shit

Your attitude sucks Pete.

good but yours doesn't? you bang on about this non stop... you have just put up the same thing again!!

what is your point? that you think 1:1 mating is good? it isn't for outcrossers..

you state you have things from 1:1 matings and very inbred lines that are great yet you slag off selfing!!

you keep going on about what the male brings... so Y don't YOU tell us.

Same paper you sure Pete ?

errrrrrrrr yes.. the maynard smith reply was about "the cost of males" your copy and paste was what I cited.

that sort of gives it away

Hempy, the term asexual refers to what we would call selfing. ie it doesnt need a sexual partner other than itself. Whereas when it talks about recombination, its referring to the process whereby 2 parents each provide a backup copy to the blueprint, incase the photocopier produced some 'some words which were difficult to read in one copy'. Therefore the female to female example would provide a 2nd copy of the blueprint in the same way that a male to female would produce a 2nd copy of the blueprint. Each case provides the same backup to "repair" copying errors. Of course if you have lots of copies, then even if 2 copies were 'difficult to read' there would be a few that were clear to read, which is the argument for larger populations in breeding programs. My objections to feminised breeding programs are different to those arguments.

lol not on the open boards. Its a technique thing, rather than a theory thing. Theories and knowledge I agree should be shared for all, but techniques are a bit different. I'll put together a pm for you to have a look at.
Though on a side note, if we ever win the war on drugs, we all accept that lines bred with male to female will be easier to reintroduce into the wild than lines that consist entirely of females.

Your a Troll Pete i am walking away not running away go research what the Y brings to the table along with what selfing is and inbreeding is as you sure as shit don't know the difference there ether now cya Pete.

yeah thanks for the insight.

lol Josh, may I refer you to the reply I gave in my last post.
I have certain techniques that I use in my breeding, that require a male.

Into the wild? You act like landrace populations weren't maintained by man. All the traits of interest to us as drug cultivators are selected and maintained by us. You can put the best nl haze line outdoors and in a few generations you'll see the potency, resin, leaf to calyx ratio all deteriorate.

I am all for returning the purest landraces we have to their natural region of origin. But acting like we just dump them in the woods and we're done with it is kind of ridiculous.

I am just wondering why the Fem seed thing has found its way into this thread, it is not a breeding technique, just a lazy way to produce seeds with no knowledge at all of breeding.
As for using fem seed in true breeding, I would not even think about it.
How are you going to produce good plants if you have no knowledge of your males. I have been working with males for 40 yrs and believe they are an essential part of a good breeding program.
Currently I have found 1 very nice SSH that suits what I like in a plant, I have now crossed that with 4 SSH males that I know will be good fathers as I have done with 2 MM males, dont need as many with these because I have had this strain for 25+yrs so I know it well and I have also used 3 males of OH X WW and MM x WW. Every one of these males is in flower, with all 3 bar the MM in full flower. I have taken 4 clones off the SSH which I will put males over from the new seed which I will grow over winter and the new seed from that I will do during summer for the final selection.
I have also done all the other SSH's with the SSH males......so there you go as a breeder I have in one hand saved a small selection of the gene pool that I have and also created new strains to enter the market if so desired to outcross to whatever is out there. I can also be sure there is going to be no hermie problems, something you cannot be sure of with fem seeds.
Will it be good, who knows until the final product, but this is what breeding is all about. No need to know your science for that just a good knowledge of your male and female plants.

I'm suprprised to hear you say that you dont feel cannabis can survive without mankind tending it GiTT.

My thoughts Exactly, Kanga. That is what I said at the outset, Scientific knowledge comes in a distant 3rd, behind the breeders personal taste plus the knowledge of the actual strain he's working with(1st), and his access to genetics(2nd).

Its helpful but not necessary.

You can't really get sensimilla if you got problems with hermies.

As for males, check out this stud...

Why would you want to cut these bad boys out of your breeding program?
It Just doesn't make sense(no pun intended heh, heh).

Hi Josh,
You're right on the money, as usual. Pun intended. Its all about money, the benjamins $$$$. And feminized seed is a tool used by the scam artist to make money. Thus a healthy explanation why we see the same arguments, from "different" anon handles. All you have to do is trace where the money goes to get an idea of what we're dealing with and their agenda.

Some of these people are very nasty individuals, who seem to have painted themselves in a corner in life that is so dark the only way they feel they can connect with others is by finding a small niche in the corner where they can hide and be as unpleasant as possible. These people are clearly in need of much more then a hug, (professional help), but I would wager a hug could go far for these unfortunate souls.

Whose gig in the industry is it to play the educated plant breeder? Notice their names are nowhere to be found, or rarely found in these types of threads, though anon users spouting the same rhetoric are easily found? Any chance there is a connect there? ;)

Why is it the loudest voices in this thread, are also the most rude? And also the ones who have accomplished nothing in our industry and contributed nothing to our forum? Its unfortunate to see this forum occupied by these arm chair book growers. Even worse, they do not even grow yet talk to members who have contributed a great deal to our community and proven time and time again how great they can grow as if they are nothing. People who have put next to zero time into our industry talking to those who have given all as if they are children....its pathetic really.

The same characters in this thread can be found in hempys feminized seed thread. Using the same half thought out arguments all centered around egotistical drivel which is supported by their youthful fantasies of becoming something without actually putting the time in to actually accomplish their dreams. Some of you should start cracking seed and proving you can grow a plant from start to finish before worrying about theoretical breeding concepts.

I am just wondering why the Fem seed thing has found its way into this thread, it is not a breeding technique, just a lazy way to produce seeds with no knowledge at all of breeding

Hi kanga,
From my seat this thread has been hijacked by the same Stoner-Gate crew who failed in their attempts with hempys feminized seed thread. Some of them have re-registered handles in an attempt to deflect heat once they are inevitably shot out of the sky once again. We all know who they are, where they come from and what their purpose is. They can re-register new handles all day, its the same tired rhetoric and piss poor attitude that gives them away every single time.

A shame money takes the place for passion when it comes to our beloved plant. Even worse that its happening here at our forum, built on the work of legitimate potsmen and now taken over by wannabe's and charlatans.

I'm suprprised to hear you say that you dont feel cannabis can survive without mankind tending it GiTT.

I didn't say it couldn't survive. I said the aspects of it we love: high potency, soaring highs, high calyx to leaf ratios, will deteriorate in a feral state without man's selective hand.

baring in mind that drug canna and "hemp" canna both have the same botanical name "cannabis sativa",,,yeh,,,im of the understanding that without artificial selection, drug canna populations like the ones we smoke will eventually express feral traits given time and succession,,id even go asfar as to say that "natural selection" might even bring rise to a natural monoceous state,,

:)

Rick your back i see so is your theoretical text book answers plucked from corn peas and any other botanical plant you see fit to use to describe cannabis.

First off rick lets talk about wild cannabis be it sativas used for hemp in the 1700s like sativas found in India that would get you high unlike hemp of today rick.

There were in fact a few areas were man planted cannabis and it went wild on the Nepean river then we have the famous crop at Newcastle that the hippies would go harvest and one not to far from Brisbane all from the first fleet settlers in australia rick and from what i read they were not Monoceous or as most people call them rick hermaphrodites.

There are areas in African still were theres wild cannabis and other areas around the world be it a few now napal has it growing every were is that hemp rick ? India is that hemp to rick ?.

Artificial selection ha rick like you can breed better than nature can shes been at it for longer than all of us put together rick its od you say this yet feel mans manipulation of species like cannabis like feminisation is perfectly fine.

Maybe the hemp your talking about is in fact GHS fem seeds left to villages after they took there best seed stock and the farmers left them growing as they relised just how bad there fem seeds were and that would explane the Monoceous or as most people call them rick hermaphrodites.

You guys need to spend more time growing i think and less time reading about plant breeding involving peas corn and wheat.

says the abstract man who doesn't know what he cited!. pot kettle... you don't even know selfing is inbreeding ... and cannabis left in the wild would most probably have a bout of selfing at some point... tell me did you give me any answers? NO just a text book abstract... get back in the glass house hempy.
