Very Awesome Chana!

I have missed this thread, and it is my first time to see it.

Looks awesome my friend.

It is very interesting that shanti says these are 10 weeks, my original NL5XHZ cut from 20+ years ago had a 13-14 week cycle, so I guess it may have been unusually leaning towards haze, which makes sense as it was significantly more sativa appearing then these.

Very Exciting, I will be following this thread closely.

Kudos!
and Thank you.

I have read a bit on our forums about this cultivar, but if anyone wouldn't mind clarifying if there is indeed skunk in this line that would be cool to know.

Hi Chana,

As far as I know, there is no skunk in the line. NL5 is an afghani cut that Nevil got from a guy known as "the indian". Purportedly there are traces of thai in this afghani dominant line. I have never had pure NL5, but am very familiar with pure NL1 and that is a very fruity line, some the purest sweetest tasting fruit bud I have ever experienced, without any trace of skunk.

Question:
You stated that the females were showing sex,and the males hadn't showed sex yet. My 5hz hybrid strains all exhibit this trait, and so many people have doubted me when I have mentioned this. Just to confirm: you have experienced that with this strain? The females showed first and then later, the males showed?
my other question: Do you use 24hour light cycle for veg? I have noticed 24hr light brings out this trait even stronger.

Thank you,

G`day Chana
I like the structure of those male flowers ! Wow ! We dont see too many males in all their glory like these suckas . That`s one for the album son .
Are you going to make pressings of these studs ? I think you have a real nice example there bro .
Now bring on the dancin girls .
Thanks for sharin
Elmer Bud

G'Day to you as well Uncle EB... dancing ladies are coming but if you see my bloom room... shit is crazy right now... it is hard to take pictures as I am running about 8 different strains right now, and some of those strains have 4 to 6 different pheno's... whats a guy got to do when he only has one blooming space!

So I took a little bit of risk here, as my crop as some friends now is medical, so I have 4 patients that depend on my consistent crops. But that being said, I trust Mr. Nice, and know that SB would not steer us wrong, so as Cabron got jacked by Sensi (not testing before he ran in the large space) I do not believe this will happen here. As we already know about Mr. Nice genetics speaking for themselves, time and time again.

Thanks for stopping in,

Hi again JH, thanks for adding some more insight into the journal. Thank you. I hope you know I am not claiming there to be skunk in the line, it is just that I always thought Norhternlights 5 had skunk in it... and pure skunk has Afgani in it? No? Also, one of the males, I was able to pull, just looked Skunk to say otherwise, but it could just be a very stoute afgani leaning pheno then...

Thank you,

JH, on the other side of the coin, I know Cannatari had his Mango Haze under 16/8, and his plant exhibited female pistals early but still remained stable in veg. Now try doing that with any other breeder outside of MSN, and I will tell you what you get... straight retarded plants... so again, another reason why these gentics are great! You should see my Kalimist and AK. Bunk my brother...

In my mother room, it is consistently in 24 hour lights on, I just run different sections 18/6. Some of my haze were able to show sex, even some of Nevils Haze showed some earlier pistals. I thought this was strange as when I would read other journals on Haze lines (especially haze dominate strains) sex was always mentioned much later in bloom. Hell just read Hempy's Nev Haze f2 grow out... he has been running his line and none of his NH showed sex after 6 to 8 weeks ofbloom... I have F1's of NH from SB and 4 pheno's already showing male flowers... I believe it is good genetics here and growing style and environment that can help plant bring out there sex. I am getting off topic here, but my NH that I have in bloom are all clones, so that might be something for speeding that particular line up...

So to answer your question, yes, I saw female pistals first in veg in most pheno of NL5Hz, and males came lets say for sake of this thread about 5 to 9 days after under 12/12. That is one reason why they are so big, cause I thought I eye balled sex, up potted for blooming room and started flower, I was like shit, here is male that I thought for sure was a female prior to flip. Then it happened 3 more times, lol! Love this plant!

I guess testing on a smaller scale or in Sultan shelves is always the best, but I had these plants and needed to make space as it was getting crowed. So far though I am really happy with the way everything is going...

Knocking on wood and hoping to find the one in this this current cycle to continue working with and sharing with my medical patients.

[EDIT:] Well looking at SB's seed list he offer NL5xHaze, NL5xAfgan and NL5xSkunk. So I guess we could agree that there is no skunk in the line, and it was my lack of inexperience to make such assumption based on a male pheno. Sorry for that bros! But I am stoked about that monster of a male specimen even more no... and I go back to my earlier response in this thread were I stated I didnt want any skunk in this line...

Respect,

CM

Hey chana brother,
just popping in to say way to go man.
Lovely stuff yr sharing.
Thx and keep em growing, y'll love the 5HzC as you will the G13Hz. They are both beautifull and special strains. My favourite is of course the 5HzC for the lack of skunk in it. :)
Respect!

Yo Sammy! What is good my bro?

thanks for subtly confirming no skunk... dont know why I went off there. Male is playing tricks on me...

Thanks for saying hello cause you are the resident NLHzC expert around here! Hopefully I can get something similar to your girl with the braids...

As for G-13hz, I searched origin and google and trip me right out to see all the guys who used Nev's work to create what is going around today, along with the CCup winners...

Thanks again, Chana, especially for the detailed response.
That is really cool that the females are showing first, just like my haze hybrids. That is a very good sign, and I would guess it hails from the NL side, although I am not sure.

It is actually bettter to do full size plants when you have the space. I advocate Bonsai shelves, for those with little space, but a full sized plant is always preferable to a bonsai.

The advantage of bonsai is one can use a large sample, without jepordizing any sensi crop one may be doing simultaneously. one can also do 3-4 generations a year in a small closet for example, and still be running a full sensi medical setup, entirely independently of the little bonsai setup. It basically allows one to become a full time breeder, without compromising his main setup.

New NL5Hz F1

Took me freaking forever to find this but I wanted to have a credible source to back me up.

Although not 100% certain , I believe Shanti said somewhere that he went through old NL seeds , seeds that NL5 originated from and did a new selection to cross to HzC male. So if I m not mistaken Shanti found a new NL5 'replacement' to create the NL5HzC current offering.
His post is here at the forums somewhere or over icmag.

hope this helps

found it

here is the post I refered to:

Thought you may like to know I have just germinated some stock seed from 1988 where the original Northern lights 5 originated from...and got an excellent germination rate to date about 55 germinated from 80 seeds after 2 days.

Here is hoping we can find something of interest for you all....take care all the best Sb

full post link:https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=1137196&postcount=24

So I believe that the NL5HzC current offering from Shanti uses a plant he found from that old seedstock.

i spoke to Shanti and all the NL5 offerings are indeed from stock that was from the late 80's (87 i believe) but its a new selection from the batch that Nev found the NL5 that was used in many crosses...so its a newly selected NL5 crossed with the HzC male used in Nev's Haze..peace

Thank you Green for digging up that for us and also L33t. Great info on the G13 too.

Guy you notice the post date?

July 9, 2007, wow... how much time and effort it took SB to manifest a thought to offer us.

Thanks Shanti and Nev.

Peace,

Good info. I recall Nev saying that the new NL5 is way better. I suspect that some time went by in between his wanting to re-work it and having the opportunity to do so which means he knew it could be better which means that the new offering is by choice and represents much effort. I think he might have even scoffed at the idea of using the old one.

I opted not to spend an hour trying to find the quote since Nev is here to comment on what I said he said but I'm sure he'll agree that the new NL5 is better.

Garden looks great, Chana.

Damn. I just sent an order in and decided not to get any NL5 x SK because I was afraid it might not live up to my memories of it from '88 - '91, and you tell me it might be EVEN BETTER!?!

Maybe next order...;)

^^^Good one.

I'm trying to find Nev's quote and so far it's looking like Nev was talking about SB's selection of NL5.

I probably should not comment on specifics like this as I'm sure there's cats around here that know the story like the back of their own hand.

Arrggh!! ("R")

Whats up brother,

@ Canna and Burb no one responded as to the pedigree of NL5? Got to be some skunk it there...

Thanks for your thought and for sharing...

CM

Guess who is my valentines?

Yo Sammy, Billy, Gratephul and Josh...

Thanks bros for inspiring the NL5hz resurgence??? Mango and Nev's growers too... It all makes sense if you are forutante to get a shot with any 2 of 3...

Respect to the best growers and breeders in the world and whom I consider my friends... bless brothers...

Okay so that was my valentines...

Recap for those that may just be joining, entering 28 days of bloom. Kept 4 of 8 bulbs off. Just alternated 4 bulbs on and 4 bulbs every two days. Last night marked full swing so burning all 8 now... could use to swap a few bulbs out but will have to hold out till next crop.

Multistrained in the bloom room to the max... 10 strains and some have small familes doing what they do... so moderate feeding 1000 to 1200 ppm of Dutch Master, adding silcate, Cal/Mag and seaweed extract. Needed space so I am blooming seed mothers and fathers. I have cloned all so knock on wood I am good..

I believe I have thai leaning pheno and I suspect she will bloom the longest. I come to this conclusion based on Cannatari and Josh's brief discussion in Gratephul's thread about the Haze being Asian (Thai) in pedigree and not South American. Check out pheno F and see if you can concur.

Male

Pheno's A,H,E, G, are male. I still think pheno E is the skunk one (NL leaning to skunk) very tall and structure, many male flowers, numerous leaf sets. A and H are very similar in structure and size, I would think this male would be ideal to add to a strain that does not have good structure (i.e UK Cheese maybe?) and G was very short in structure and had a lot of leaf sets, moderate male flowers.

Female

Pheno's B, D, F and I are looking lovely. I will not comment yet cause I believe this is defiantly one of those smokes that will truly express herself after a solid cure...

Respect to my second family,

CM

Chana looking wonderful in here, happy to hear your enjoying the NL5xhaze. I bet you find a heavy thai pheno because I got one and she is gonna be 12-14 weeks before finished. It actually #1 and I'll post a new pic of her soon, I notice that it will keep stretching and stacking and it seems like at least on my plant that the buds finish from the bottom up, meaning I feel like i can harvest some bottom buds while the tops fill out. Please keep us updated on your hard work chana!

Hi chana,
excellent start of what should be great smoke.
I have some of these OTW and am anxious to start them too.
there is no skunk in this seed so it holds a lot of smoking and maybe breeding potential.
before I placed my order ,I ask Shanti specific about his new
NL5 Hybrids.
question;
"Out of the new NL5 selection hybrids, which one pleased you the most?"
reply;
" NL5xHazeC is the best for me to date."
For me that was all I needed to hear.

good luck
and
keep it green
