Hi Chana,
As far as I know, there is no skunk in the line. NL5 is an afghani cut that Nevil got from a guy known as "the indian". Purportedly there are traces of thai in this afghani dominant line. I have never had pure NL5, but am very familiar with pure NL1 and that is a very fruity line, some the purest sweetest tasting fruit bud I have ever experienced, without any trace of
skunk.
Hi again JH, thanks for adding some more insight into the journal. Thank you. I hope you know I am not claiming there to be skunk in the line, it is just that I always thought Norhternlights 5 had skunk in it... and pure skunk has Afgani in it? No? Also, one of the males, I was able to pull, just looked Skunk to say otherwise, but it could just be a very stoute afgani leaning pheno then...

Question:[/B]
You stated that the females were showing sex,and the males hadn't showed sex yet. My 5hz hybrid strains all exhibit this trait, and so many people have doubted me when I have mentioned this. Just to confirm: you have experienced that with this strain? The females showed first and then later, the males showed?
my other question: Do you use 24hour light cycle for veg? I have noticed 24hr light brings out this trait even stronger.
Thank you,
JH, on the other side of the coin, I know Cannatari had his Mango Haze under 16/8, and his plant exhibited female pistals early but still remained stable in veg. Now try doing that with any other breeder outside of MSN, and I will tell you what you get... straight retarded plants... so again, another reason why these gentics are great! You should see my Kalimist and AK. Bunk my brother...
In my mother room, it is consistently in 24 hour lights on, I just run different sections 18/6. Some of my haze were able to show sex, even some of Nevils Haze showed some earlier pistals. I thought this was strange as when I would read other journals on Haze lines (especially haze dominate strains) sex was always mentioned much later in bloom. Hell just read Hempy's Nev Haze f2 grow out... he has been running his line and none of his NH showed sex after 6 to 8 weeks ofbloom... I have F1's of NH from SB and 4 pheno's already showing male flowers... I believe it is good genetics here and growing style and environment that can help plant bring out there sex. I am getting off topic here, but my NH that I have in bloom are all clones, so that might be something for speeding that particular line up...
So to answer your question, yes, I saw female pistals first in veg in most pheno of NL5Hz, and males came lets say for sake of this thread about 5 to 9 days after under 12/12. That is one reason why they are so big, cause I thought I eye balled sex, up potted for blooming room and started flower, I was like shit, here is male that I thought for sure was a female prior to flip. Then it happened 3 more times, lol! Love this plant!
I guess testing on a smaller scale or in Sultan shelves is always the best, but I had these plants and needed to make space as it was getting crowed. So far though I am really happy with the way everything is going...
Knocking on wood and hoping to find the one in this this current cycle to continue working with and sharing with my medical patients.
[EDIT:] Well looking at SB's seed list he offer NL5xHaze, NL5xAfgan and NL5xSkunk. So I guess we could agree that there is no skunk in the line, and it was my lack of inexperience to make such assumption based on a male pheno. Sorry for that bros! But I am stoked about that monster of a male specimen even more no... and I go back to my earlier response in this thread were I stated I didnt want any skunk in this line...
Respect,
CM
