The origins of Haze

i've said this before, but i think it bares repeating.
Nevile's haze obv is far superiour due to the outcross to nl5, nl5 is a thai x indica hybrid correct? NL5 has the thai like calyxes and sweetness no?

If anyone has old hightimes check out the THMQ and see the state of the market. US stock was Mexi X Colombo most likely. Thats why the dutch stuff was so different.

From what we are told thai was a later addition i think we all agree on this Sooo

How bout lookin for a purple lumbo my brother ;)

Hi bh, I agree that's what we've been told. But as for the veracity of info sourced to Sam:D Well, what we can agree on is that Sam, Nev & Dj Shorts have all said Thai is the strongest herb they've encountered. People have said the same of Haze.

I agree the Thai may have been added subsequent to the Colombian and Mexican, but I suspect that before then it wasn't called Haze, & when Thai was added, that's when it became something really special that could sell for such exorbitant prices i.e. the trippiness of Thai, with the throat friendly flavor of the typical domestic imports.

But of course I wouldn't turn my nose up at a purple Colombian, just not sure that's what the purple in the Haze mix was. Nev's assessment is that the ingredient in Haze that sets it apart is the Thai. He has also been scratching his head for the last 6 months at the similarity of MM and Haze, and as that post from Overgrow demonstrates, in the early days of MM the pine trees were often purple.

On the other hand can a pure sativa really finish in N. Cali? In which case the purple may just be....some dreaded Afghani.

I mean, by the time the Haze Bros supposedly blew out R in NY, they had moved on to promoting some Indica as their top smoke. Pfff!

Its all an imbroglio of convoluted bullshit my friends.

Good idea not to hold too steadfastly to any nebulous perspective...be it in the mystery/history of Haze, or in anything:D

depends on where you are on the coast,
but some of the boys in BC will claim they can grow em outdoors too.

Its also interesting when you look at other historical data.

The south amerian buds routinley tested around 2%

I think the thai's where the first stuff to reach 5%

the purple could have just been cold nights too.

Hi all,
As most of us are aware, wikipedia isn't exactly Harvard. But with that mind, check out some of the below information.

Reportedly, the song came into being after his manager Chas Chandler heard him playing the riff backstage and suggested that he write lyrics to go with it. There is some dispute about the lyrics: supposedly written in the dressing room of the Upper Cut Club on Boxing Day, 1966, Chandler claims that the lyrics were never cut in any way (though he admits that this was done on general principle with Hendrix's lyrics), while Hendrix stated that the original song contained much more text.[3] Hendrix himself denied the drug relation of the song claiming it to be merely another love song. He said that the line "What ever it is, that girl put a spell on me" is the key line to the lyrics.[4]
"I dream a lot and I put a lot of my dreams down as songs," Hendrix said in a 1969 interview with the New Musical Express, "I wrote one called 'First Around the Corner' and another called 'The Purple Haze,' which was all about a dream I had that I was walking under the sea."[8] The term "purple haze" has been used to refer to LSD, due to the form sold by Sandoz, called Delysid, which came in purple capsules. The phrase itself appears in print as early as 1861, in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, chapter 54: "There was the red sun, on the low level of the shore, in a purple haze, fast deepening into black..." Although, Hendrix himself stated that the song was partially in reference to a sci-fi story.

Hendrix made soul music for inner space. "It's a collection of free feeling and imagination," he said of the album. "Imagination is very important." Drugs were not. Widely assumed to be about an acid trip, "Purple Haze," the opening track on the '67 U.S. LP, had "nothing to do with drugs," Hendrix insisted. " 'Purple Haze' was all about a dream I had that I was walking under the sea."

This was then going back before hendrix.

I appreciate the honesty as to your opinion/experience

I'll let it rest as for the opinions of Nevil giving face/fame to the haze/Sams ,were all Mns family and Damn proud of it but i dont agree on the subject much .Sams changed the dutch scene when he brought the cali genetics to holland which makes up 70 % or more of the availble seed stock on the market today.Id imagine if another upcoming breeder were given the same opportunity to purchase the haze stock history would not be much different

It makes sense that Sam S would not have any pure O Haze because he sold Nevil 2000 pure seeds that he guessed would never sprout for an exorbitant amount, and out of those 2000 seeds, Nevil was only able to sprout 7 seeds, which still came as a surprise to Sam S. Even if Sam had saved some of the Haze Brothers seed, there is a very good chance he would not have been able to get them to sprout.

The proof is in the pudding: it stands to reason that if Neville's Haze, which is only 3/4 Haze, throws phenos which are fully 6 weeks longer than any phenos found in Positronics O Haze, that Positronics O haze is most likely less pure than Nevil's 3/4 haze.

Since were being soo open minded

lets not forget the fact that CC sams haze hybrids have been given high esteem by Some very respected growers ,add to the fact there are many reported similiar traits to MNS haze hybrids .I just find it hard to believe Sams would sell All/his best stock to Nevil an not keep any for himself.

If were still being open minded

Now with the comparison of the Posi stock and Nevilles haze ,Dont forget the mention of the burning bush ancestor .If Nevil's stock had anything to do with burning bush than it would make sense there are extreme phenos becaz it was as SAMS describes a original haze with a strong thai influence .Also remember there was a thai haze from Sams stock .Now keep in mind the mention of the mns parents expressing thai n colombian phenos .

Sup Bushweed

what we can agree on is that Sam, Nev & Dj Shorts have all said Thai is the strongest herb they've encountered. People have said the same of Haze.

Not exactly

I think strongest cannabis is quite subjective an if i recall correct Dj short said african black was the strongest he's encountered .Which will lead back to the Recent discussion of the kariba surprise an african influence of the afro-colombian strains .Lastly id like to mention the Colombian wacky weed's has been reported by some as the strongest herb they have encountered which SAMS claim was one of the lumbos used in the ohaze makin .

I agree the Thai may have been added subsequent to the Colombian and Mexican, but I suspect that before then it wasn't called Haze, & when Thai was added, that's when it became something really special that could sell for such exorbitant prices i.e. the trippiness of Thai

Somthin else i dont agree with ,If your theory stand's true wouldnt it have become haze when S.indian was added .Id imagine it was haze since the first grow

your basic thought of the post is the thai influence(which ive discussed above in response to josh ) as ive brought to Nevil's attention ,how is it possible if thai was a later edition that his haze stock comes from 69 ,According to the story from SAMS its all contradictory an makes sense again with the mention of burning bush .If the stock was the earliest available it should have no thai influence at all.

As for finishing n especially the thought of afghani = purple that kills me ,Imo/E i dont have a doubt in my mind with my Nevilles haze expereience in NYC ,the thought of haze in a green house in the cruz till mid december seems exspected

lmfao you post a pic of a news artical of the titantic sinking after i make a post about hendrix like you actually knew before my post (very similar to a TROLL you goof) , which is quite apparent you did not know anything (as useual) and now your doing your typical internet searches  , JessE why dont you just admit you are a FRAUD and go away FOREVER

or are you gunna stick around and give more of your typo filled reports that look like a 12 year old wrote , kinda like your post a couple few pages back , after someone else did a copy n paste of a properly written post/artical you come along and do your own right after , and as i said yours looked like it was written by a 12 year old

JessE you are a proven fraud , take your internet searched often wrong info/stories and GO AWAY YOU TROLL

id like to see sandoz purple capsules

as im only aware of the ampules

Ditto....

Have never heard of any capsules/tabs prepared by Sandoz. My dad had the 100mcg amps and I've known people who had larger multi-dose amps - but never a solid single dose unit.

Purple barrels however were distributed by Bear (Owsley) at Monterrey. Jimi purportedly ate two before going on stage.

This entire thread is deranged but fascinating. ;)

the sandoz story is a facilitating one.
Someone dig up an old stash and dose this thread. :D

Jeez, if Jesse had bothered to read it, I've made several detailed posts about Hendrix and Purple Haze.

Hendrix wrote Purple Haze in 1966 in London, he recorded it in late 66 and performed it for the first time on US soil at the Monterrey Festival in the Summer of 67, the song became probably the biggest hit of the Summer of Love.

Purple Haze is almot certainly not to do with LSD, Jimi told Chas Chandler he had a dream where he was chased by a purple cloud, he later embellished the story to being under the sea and included further detail.

No-one will ever know what really inspired Jimi, there are multiple strong possibilities:

The smoke grenades used by the US Army produce clouds of purple smoke and were colloquially known among soldiers as 'Purple Haze', Jimi was a soldier, hewould have been very familiar with these granades from training.

Vietnam is a country almost permanently covered in haze, US soldiers referred to going out on patrol as 'getting hazed' and when wounded they received Purple Heart medals. Therefore 'Purple Haze' referred to the state you were in after being wounded, shot with morphine and had a Purple Heart pinned to your bedsheets.

Either of those is more likely to have been the source of the phrase 'Purple Haze' and it's highly probable Hendrix heard the term in the Army.

As for Owsley Stanley, he has categorically refuted claims that the acid at Monterrey was anything to do with the song. Owsley did meet Jimi at Monterrey and Jimi was tripping on acid but the acid wasn't purple it was brown. Owsley mixed up the batch he called Purple Haze after Monterrey and he said the reason they called it that was to cash in on the name as the song was by far the biggest hit of that summer and was constantly on the radio when Owsley was working in his lab.

Do a google for Owsley Stanley Purple Haze and you'll find an interview and statement from Owsley where he refutes the link between Hendrix, Monterrey and his Purple Haze acid batch. I posted it before here, I posted a lot of detail about this actually...

all this talk of purple acid, kinda makes me want some...
one thing i dont understand is...

why were the haze brothers, or whoever was growing haze, impressed with skunk 1?
seems haze was so good, skunk 1 should have been garbage to them. even if it could yeild well and finish fast. who cares about that when its quality your after. shows us what the haze brothers were after.

The M-18 thing seems far fetched to me but so do many things in this thread. Interesting theory though...

Re Monterey Purple though, could you please provide a link supporting the idea that it was actually brown??

The comment I found allegedly from Bear said this:

We called the purple acid tabs pressed specially to be given away at the Monterey Pop Festival: “Monterey Purple”.

Those are original Monterey Purple barrels!???

Holy mother Kali!

Interesting to note that the person posting as Bear in the link above referred to them as "tabs" despite the fact that I too had always heard this batch described as barrels.....

Wow...just plain wow.....please tell me they are still active.

If those are legit you are my new hero Deran! Thank you!

just plain simple micro dots ....

nothing unusual .. maybe only that they arent so frequent like blotters

oh - and this batch was way more active than the double printed anniversary bicycles

but still no way near this english sponges i had mid 90s ... holy shit .. :D

i'm betting you don't need to consume several hits either as kids today claim with the modern versions of lsd. lol. once upon a time, when the dealer called it '4 way' he meant what he said. peace-biteme

Ah well.....

I've still never seen a verified pic of Bear's barrels or tabs.....

I wasn't going to say anything given the lack of scale in your pic and the time passed, but it seemed surprising that they would be so variable. I pictured Bear's products as more standardized.

But I'm also glad they are not Monterey Purple barrels because I had two purple barrels from a special stash in the mid 80s that I've long thought may have been Bear's purple product and I recall them as darker in color (though that memory is probably about as trustworthy as many of the legends in this thread....lol)

Love all this history and speculation though! Great thread....

Furthur!!
