Sorry for the confusion. There's two parts to the clone comment. First, the clones were typically identical to the seed mother, so there wasn't a change based solely on using a clone. Second, I was able to procure a few clones from a friend who made selections from beans that he independently purchased. Regardless of seed or clone, I haven't come across an Atomic NL that looked like the Doc's on his website.
Despite the variation in structure and buzz, one thing was common: potency. I had some heavy indica phenos with a knockout stone, but also had some that were more sativa in structure that was a good mix of a high and stone. Where the Doc's NL excels is in the potency of the strain. Some were exceptional and others were very good.
After reading the history of Atomic NL, it becomes clear that the variation is due to the Doc crossing different NL lines and using multiple sources in making his selections. In my experience, Atomic NL is unique from the SSB version and I presume from that of Ortega as well. I would consider Atomic NL to be a combination of many NL varieties rather than simply calling it NL5 as many often do.
i think your spot on mate. i think the Dr put time into his strain of nl.
