I use something we call Rottom bottom. A weak link of lighter mono that will take the cast with the weight attached but so it purposly snapps in weed/ deep silt and detritus etc to bring the fish up in the water, it blends into the bottom inconspicuosly breaking up any visible lines. The refraction index of the materials used are important. Fish can detect metal and the lateral line will pick up anything that isn't natural down there. The leader actually helps with hooking, it also gives less leverage to try eject a bait if it's not gone all the way inside the mouth by pulling the hook down to the barb.

I fish the hook length 3" maximum with a curve in it to excentuate the hooking mechanics, almost making the shank longer so they hook themselves deep in the mouth and then it's kinda impossible to shed a bendy hook and it doesn't damage the mouths. It also flips and turns 360 degrees, Kung-Fu style attacks like a scorpians tail.. It's deadly!! The loop at the swivel prevents any minute adjustments or leverage the fish try's/ makes before running to escape. You can cast this anywhere and it's 100% fishing over any bottom regardless.. It's called the Short Rig. The bait is also attached to a loop so fish can't blow the hook out using the bait, as that also will set the hook into the mouth as the bait moves.. Once a fish sucks at this it's fucked..

Looks like that could work well @Mate Dave, will have to give it a try next time I get out

I use a few different rigs, that spot has a very rocky bottom where you get snagged easily, the dropper rig is good when your sinker gets snagged in the rocks your bait is still easily accessible for any fish.

Load your hook up with a whole pilchard and drop a frozen berly bomb in... I bet you will catch more fish and be larger.
A small float with a 2-3m trace to sinker with trace off to hook ?
Can you please show us a PHAT doobie you're smoking next time? And all the fish you catch?

You know the ways @Ken Abbis it either unsnags you and you catch the fish or you loose both fish and gear 😄

Yeah it fishes good at times, quite shallow, kina berly is the goods. Doobies are long gone Ken but it was some of this Mango Haze, High AF
