Musashi plays with fire- NL5/Afghan grow

These look great. You could fight off a pack of coyotes with these bats. I think I need to add these to the list. Number 4 makes me giddy, and I see thousands of plants a day.

Looking forward to your reports after the cure.

Aloha fellow firewalkers!

@Marcus I am favoring her also. Excited at the prospects. Dad was monstrous- a beautiful specimen.
Here are some pics of the ACDC/Ortega cross at 8 weeks.

Hey bb247 how are them fruity pebbles treatin' ya?

As I recently mentioned in my G13/Afghan Skunk thread, these girls are also in their 9th week. I figure I will harvest most this coming week. I am very impressed with this variety for its ease of grow, uniformity, size, smell. A very accomodating plant. I sampled some popcorn off of #2 the other day. It has been hanging for 4 days already; solid frontal hit with yummy hash aftertaste :) My photo skills suck with this cheap ass camera but if'n I take enuf pics maybe some will stick lol. I am looking forward to clearing the decks once again and enjoying the fruits.

Aloha fellow firewalkers!

Activity is picking up as all the last minute chores come to play; getting the dry room in order, etc. The very crowded veg room is already bustin at the seams and wanting their turn. Overcrowding; some of the MediHaze mothers were found with mites several days ago. They have been isolated and so there is that battle. That's the one thing I don't like about LED- you can't see shit when it comes to this stuff. There are other menehunes- the grow room fan went out too. When, I don't know. Humidity was at 45% with 81 for temps when I came in so it had to have been within the last few hours. Thank goodness for timing and having an extra fan eh. Good to have backup.
ACDC/Ortega #1 was taken down yesterday. #2 and #3 will follow in a day or two. I am excited to see what this cross might bring. Hopefully it will turn out to be good medicine. It is amazng to me how many of us deal with pain on a daily basis. As I said earlier Dad was a tall, very handsome, big dude. Encouraging as he does come from a good family lol.
The NL5/Afghans are also at their peak and they too, will come down in a few days. Speaking of Nl5/Afghan, I am very pleased with this grow. My previous grow was disastrous due to inattention so it is nice to see how they really express themselves when given a little love. But back to the ACDC/Ortega's. Here are some pics

Any chance of getting some close up pics with the flash or without red lighting? I'm really curious to see the buds of both varieties, if you get the chance.

I'd have to top the hell out of these things with as thick as they get - humidity is a bitch down here - I have to empty my dehumidifier 4 - 6 times a day, and that's with the AC running in the same room 24/7.

Have you had any rot issues where you're at growing buds that fat?

Aloha fellow firewalkers!

Thanks for all the love braddahs!
I am guessin' that this is going to be a very busy week. Several plants are already hung and I plan to finish up the rest of them this week. Contrary to strain descriptions warning of mold, I have not had any problems. I do pay attention to cleanliness, ventilation and keep humidity within a low and narrow range. Said another way, I have better luck growing these varieties indoors in a controlled environment.
Braddahs, this is yet another MNS variety that grows on its own and makes you look like a hero upon completion. Good yields and delicious aromas!
A photography genius I am not but hopefully these pics will suffice for my good braddah Ronin

Aloha fellow firewalkers,

It is indeed a busy time as spring moves into summer so quickly! While some things wind down, others come into play.

Aloha fellow firewalkers!
Getting the morning started with John McLaughlin Shakti. Sublime guitarist for sure. Well the room is once again dark and empty save for the reclaimed bamboo stakes and the remaining dead leaves. Most finished a week later than 7-9 week window given in the strain description. I am very happy with the yields and there are some interesting smells going on from floral to earthy, sweet and sour. I have tried #2, #3 so far. While still young, they haven't developed their solid fragrance but the aromas are distinct and pleasant. The smoke is already smooth and full. I want to say that the high, the initial jolt, is short-lived due to immaturity, yet I have found myself reluctant to get up after a 2-hour nap the other day lol.
Besides the CBD Medihaze side of things, please, please let find one more medicinal, short-flowering, high THC laden plant I can live with. Give me some Gravity! I have enjoyed hanging out on the Indie side as I love the structure of the plant and the varied, often sharp aromas. But, I look forward to getting back to the thin-leafed, viney plants, the hazes. Marcus has got me excited about the Doors and I am wanting to get some NL5/Haze going too. Or should it be SSH lol.
In the meantime, work is still not done. Before I can take a different tack, I still have to cure the current NL5/Afghan crop, sample them and make the necessary cuts; those eliminated (save "The One") will make nice gifts.

i would guess that nevil made his super 5 using one of these nl5 afghans crossed with an nl5 skunk.
i dont know that anyone sells that strain, but he then crossed it with a mullumbimby madness.
i call it mullum super 5, or ms5 for short.
but with all that other stuff mixed in, im not sure i know what the nl5 afghan influence is.
the one female i have doesnt really have a lot of mullum qualities, so its closer to the super 5. and closer to the nl5 skunk than the afghan.
there was a collaboration that made a bunch of ms5 f'2s, but i dont have the male anymore. i do have a bunch of f2's.
when growing the originals from nevil, i selected away from the super 5 as i thought the mullum would be where the quality was, and the nl5 afghan/nl5 skunk brought the commercial qualities like yield, density, faster flower time, and resin.

Sorry to see another great one cross over. I appreciated his uniqueness, his style. He had a special place in my album collection alongside Tom Waits, Oscar Peterson, Tatum and Monk. He will be missed.

I’ve always been curious about the lineage on Shanti’s NL5 Afghan, as the pedigree shows 25% Skunk in the gene pool.

I always assumed it was an NL5 x Afghan/Skunk... sharing the same father as NHS, Angel Heart, and Neville’s Skunk.

You mention Super 5 and it maybe being an NL5/Afghan x NL5/Skunk.

That would also result in 50% NL5 and 25% of each Afghan and Skunk—as reported in Shanti’s description of NL5 Afghan.

I wonder if Super 5 wasn’t just a male selection from the NL5 Afghan seed stock?

Aloha fellow fire walkers!
Trimming when I could be out on the water. It is summertime ya know. I am very happy with the NL5/Afghan crop. Decent yields and strong plants. They do what they are supposed to do in terms of pain relief and relaxation. Some of the plants are pretty heavy, leaving me a little hung over in the morning. I am thinking best use will be in oil and salve. Going full circle here and will probably revisit Ortega as many say, "No hangover"- which has been my experience. Complex smells of plastic, rubber glue, fuel. Very satisfied with this medicine. The ACDC/Ortega turned out well also. Great yields! Obviously needing testing to acertain CBD content but so far smooth smoke and great pain relief!

The NL5/Afghan is trimmed and now beginning cure. Random sampling confirms most to be effective in pain management and stress reduction. In fact, a small popcorn bud of #7 at 11am this morning put me out until a little after 2pm today lol. I am pleased with this crop. Some low yielding plants while others were over 3 oz! Found 3 seeds in the batch which is acceptable to me. I will run #6, 7, 8, and #10 again before making another round of cuts. The others will be discarded. This will make great medicine!
The ACDC/Ortega also turned out well. Yield was modest around 2 oz/plant. FYI- they were in smaller 3 gallon pots. This too will be cooked up. #1 will be discarded this round leaving #2, 3. I will continue to explore this cross with several plants currently outdoors to see how they fare in that environment. Hey CannaFish what are we gonna call her? And then there is the "found her among the camellia trees on Toshima Island after she was lost 30 years ago" story we gotta make up har har!
