Grail: The Ultimate Haze Hybrid

Just a thought on blueberry. When it first came out in the '90s, someone gave me some.
I smoked it and got a mental printout of the pedigree. BBxSK1 X NL5xSK1.

I gave Soma BBSK1 cuttings. They would on occasion produce branches where the leaves would show a deformity, one side of the vein would not form properly. I told him to avoid using branches like this for cuttings, but he liked it and selected for it (???).

Nev, your mental pedegree certainly jives with what others have said about the BB of the 90's being a different from DJ's BB offerings.

I guess that's probably part of what Nirvana, White Label & others contributed to the legend of DJ's Blueberry.

You make some very good points Snow.

a multi-polyhybrid to cross to a NH male would be hard to stabilze and get something consistant. Too many alleles or genetic recombinations. The best bet for a female would be something that is homezygous which breeds true, like a inbreed line or old farmed lines or landraces which haven't been messed with as much.
This is what I'm looking for in an outcross with the NH.
I like this list, Like a Colombian Red, Black,Gold, Oaxacan, Highland Thai, Valenzuelan, Uruguaian, Congolese or Angola Red.

If I was to find potential breeding partners for the NH male, I would 1st find other lines that shared the same expressions and quality of effect. Maybe an other Haze type.

Line breeding to a Haze Hybrid from another Haze line is the other way to go, preferably bringing in some fresh blood from the above mentioned list.

At this stage, I'm not interested in stabilising it. At best it'll take many generations to get as good the F1 parents, if at all.
I want to narrow it down to 2 one male one female matings and the have it produced in bulk and then frozen to last, just in case.

I think if you take a look at Joey Weeds BB you will find it is as close to the 90's BB of DJ's as anybody, but as a F2.

Have you any interest in Hawaiian genes? I would love to see some of the Kauai Electric used in some crosses. Nevil would you be so kind as to please tell us of your experience with Hawaiian genes if you have any?

I would also like to know if you think that Gravity would be a good female to use with crossing to pure sativas? I realize that the 4way indica will make a lot of variation, but I am somewhat interested in the larger variation. I was thinking of trying to get OTHaze from Ace for using in the cross. I would love to see some vietnamese black, dalat, or cambodian added to the gravity.

I believe Nevil worked with a Hawaiian Haze which won an early High Times Cannabis Cup many years ago now, in fact, I believe that year Nevil swept all catagories. Quite an accomplishment to say the least!

One of our best members here at the forum, hempy, is currently working on a hawaiian hybrid known as "Hype" as well as some other projects involving genuine Hawaiian lines. As most of us are aware, Hawaii is a natural hub for growing great cannabis due to the climate and enthusiasm of the native peoples.

great description

Northern Lights 5 crossed with Haze male C. Is the best Indica / Sativa hybrid that I've ever done. HzA male to NL5 was also excellent and was the mother of N.H. The HzC was a complex sweet aroma, while HzA produced plants with a leathery smell, more reminisent of the old Thai's.
Complex liver/ leather smell is what I'm looking for in a good Thai descenant to cross with the Haze.
N.

Leathery...I got thai inthe early eighties that I LOVED but was always difficult to describe.Leathery liver smell and taste is a good way to put the stuff I got.I paid 600 a 1/4 lb however..lol.and it had seeds.

I have some Kauai Electric from the big island, Kona Gold, Molokai Frost, Puna Budder and some others. I need to grow them out to verify the effects and differences between them. I smoked a sample of the Kauai Electric x Molokai.. it was super intense, electric and vibrant like an island weed should be. Its definitively on the old school Hawaiian side with a nice indica punch.

The Hawaiians are most likely descendants of Mexicans and Thais.

Stabilizing is a hard and long road. Making something consistent using good stock shouldn't be a problem if you verify the stock before breeding with it.

The Venezuelan and Uruguayan lines would be magical if you can still get good stock, so these would be harder to come by. I know of one source of Congolese which hasn't been hybridized. Angola Red is out there and possibly be a source but I believe it to be muddled for breeding, though there are probably sources out there that have it more pure unless they lost it.

Good lumbos, Thais would be easier to come by. Oaxacan is a great choice but finding the best examples, pre 80's. 70-60's era and earlier would be the best.

Some of the best parts of Haze is that it can express many different expressions in growth, high, flower time. Variety is the spice of life, as long as its a good variety.

i brought some seeds back from Uruguayan pot, in a recent trip to south america, problem is there in a bag full of other south american seeds. the grass it was from was nice, taste wasnt great, but it was smoked in a super thin paper napkin, brazil favela style, which where i got it and had been holding up for a few months, some batches better than others. high was trippy, colours where brightened, explosively giggly, to the point that my cheeks actually cramped, the high lasted for hours and had a very floaty head feel. now i just have to pop my way through 50 odd seeds from all over the continent and see if any thing pops up. cant wait:cool:

I was kama'aina in being for a time, and now only in spirit. I have asked my friends to collect me some seeds, but they are too stoned to remember before they start them up.

Much more than that. There were African, Australian, and SE Asian strains brought by surfers. There were Filipino strains brought by field workers.

Was the Electric grown out on the south side of the Big Island? If so it may not be pure. It might be a cross of Electric and Puna. If it tastes like candied lemon rinds and hash with a slight spicy hint then it is the correct Electric. If it is really spicy or guava flavored then it is a cross. Kona Gold will have two different phenos- fruity and spicy.

Kauai Electric was grown on the island of Kauai and
Nihue {forbidden Island}...that's where I met my lovely wife...she gave me a big kola from there...that was almost 30 years ago.

don't forget us Haoles

As most of us are aware, Hawaii is a natural hub for growing great cannabis due to the climate and enthusiasm of the native peoples.

unfortunately Green Merchant and Green Harvest decimated the Hawaiian Cannabis scene and most genetics (from what i can tell) were lost. it is generally accepted by social scientists and other experts that the Cannabis eradication fueled Hawaii's ice epidemic.

i don't know what goes on Cannabis-wise on the streets these days but the last i heard most stuff comes in from Canada and Calif.:(

Kauai Electric should be Gold in color, even the stems are a lovely gold and so sticky it is almost impossible to roll a joint,it was smoked in sea shell pipes made by the locals...
check back in High Times catalogs, one center fold was a knock out local gal with a Kauai Electric Kola stuck in her bikini bottom and ran up to her exposed breasts.
That would be a very good example of what it looks like, then.
now ,who knows what it is today

the Big Island now allows 25 plants for medical grows while the other counties only 7. i keep asking the wife to move:D

Hey Skunk :)
Trust you are well in this world my friend? Spoken like a toker who should know, no doubt! Not wanting to speak too far out of place here, Im told that quite a few of the varieties in Hawaii now are indeed from outside sources, and some of the ones now grown on the islands are much shorter, squat in nature? Im also told that taking shots at the numerous fly over's on the islands is not unheard of as well?

In 77, a famous old Painter on Maui ( Kenneth R Niezman), told Me that He and His brother brought the first Marijuanna seed back to the Hawaiian Islands after their service in the Korean war. He was a Character, but the story may very well be true. People in Lahaina said it was true back 33 years ago.
