Badrabbit's Kaze Grow

Hey BR,
how are the resin glands?
%Clear / %cloudy / %amber

That is the only way to properly make the decision to harvest based on the maturity of the actual resin, not red hairs, calyx size, leaf condition, etc.

I would hate to see you pick early after all this time.

Sorry if you already know this, in fact, I assume you do, but dont want to take any chances.

Thanks Cptn; good advice. I should have clarified though, there's only one pheno in there that I think is ready (interestingly, it's the big yielder, #3). The promising one, #9 is very close, but maybe not quite. The rest are on that table for a while yet.

But indeed, I plan to do a closer and more critical inspection today on both 'fore I chop anything.

best,
rabbit

PS: I have read that late bloom is when Haze varieties respond VERY well to increased nutes/PK supplements.

Might want to try and load them up and see how they react.

Interesting, thanks ... haven't heard that specifically but earlier this week I did indeed decide to give them their highest level of bloom heavy/nute hit yet. Had to even back it down a bit as PPM went over 1,400, and that's, in my experience, more than needed.

PPS: Those look like they could be 9 or 10 weekers to me.

I would say the majority are exactly that Cptn ... or more. There's a couple in there, including one I call "the towering inferno" that are just wild and I could see them taking 100 days for sure. If the buds and potency fills in on that one, watch out~!@!@!

But I would say that the two early finishers have a phenotype that is both different from all the rest and different from each other as well. I shall post the photos as I pull them and you will maybe help ID the traits as you see them.

thanks for the input!

photos to prove I'm not insane or clueless ...

haha ... here's a couple shots of the early finisher #3 pheno. After looking closely this AM, I do think she needs a few days, but the red pistils are showing all the way up to the top and there are some amber trich's in there ...

but, no rush ... this one Kaze plant would be about 7 1/2 ft tall if it wasn't bent and has 4 large colas, all about as big as this, as well as another 3 o 4 that are smaller, but still larger than the largest colas of any other Kaze in there. She was not topped!

Next, are two rooted clones of the M. Kaze #9 pheno that provided the impressive tester. The #9 pheno is nowhere near as big as #3, much smaller, skunkish colas, but also finishing early and providing delicious, strong smoke...

cheers,
rabbit

some random pot porn ...

Here's Room B grow with SSH and SLH phenos .... these are about 2 weeks from finish (should finish in the 55 to 60 day range typically), and in their 3rd round of cloning.

These are well proven keepers of drop dead delicious, rich tasty smoke ... the #4 SLH pheno shown first is just a knock out, top drawer smoke. Working on ways to 'supercrop' more out of the phenos, but they're worth growing even with a modest yield ...

cheers,
rabbit

Kazy days in the 'hutch ....

The first two are my potential keeper pheno #9 ... skunky smell and, for early tester, killer, delicious smooth smoke. She's showing strong signs of a near finish.

The wispy wand is where about half of the phenos are kinda lookin....

The last is a Kaze genetic bank of cuts from all of the Kaze female phenos, just in case there's some more surprises in there! (Pheno 9's two cuts are already rooted and vegging under a 600W HPS.

cheers,
rabbit

And the Kaze came crashing down ....

OK ... despite good ventilation, nice dual fan and dehumidifer; there's mold appearing in spots on my early Kaze finishers ... plus I'm outta weed, so HERE WE GO!

Not all of them, just a few early's .... I'll post some of the slower ladies in a moment ...

First, the is Master Kaze pheno 9

While she is leggy, stretchy and rather low yield, there's two VERY important points:

1. She's the product of a way overgrown/crowded room, I think she has more potential (and BTW, she was not topped)
2. In the early tester a week or so ago ... she's a true potential keeper. If that test was any indication, on a toke for toke basis, this may be the best weed the rabbit hutch has ever produced in over 10 years of working at it. Yup, that good. My GF is an absolute weed junky who is maybe the hardest to impress smoker in the world .... she had two little hits, her eyes opened wide and she beamed happiness, "more was all she said" ...

I rooted and transplanted her two clones already and they are happily vegging away as I write ...

So, Kaze #9 ....

Kaze #5

Pheno 5 is more airy and fluffy and early testers were inconclusive ...

Howevuh, as she was pulled today with a greater ripeness, I was getting some really nice rich aromas from her that I hadn't sensed before.

Same caveat as #9, not topped and grown under very challenging, crowded space ....

And now .... the rest of the story

Kaze #3 is a monster ... probably would stretch out to 8 ft or more if not bent. While not topped, it produced 4 or 5 branches each topped with a "wow!" ....

I pulled the one cola only that was showing a touch of mold and it is shown below ...

Never fear, the rest of the Kaze will be coming for weeks and weeks and weeks ... pic #2 is Pheno #11 that is probably a week or more away.

Last pic is 'the towering inferno' .... pheno #10. I believe I shall be reporting her finish to y'all sometime in 2012 ...

Dude, those last 2 pics are FANTASTIC.
What did you do? New camera?

Why thanks very much Cptn for noticing! No, same camera, but I'm trying different settings and light.

The last two are actually just under the HPS, but I think a different setting, taking it out of AUTO is helping.

I'm trying to force it to flash ... I've seen some shots on the forum recently that were HPS background with a forced flash that were excellent. But to this point, I haven't figured out how to do it.

I am setting up some additional incandescent lights in the "cut and trim" area to get better results.

In much more important developments, the big #3 pheno (first pic in that last set) had been unimpressive in early testers .... however, a test of the more mature flowers, quick dried, conducted last night was MUCH more encouraging, nice fruity punch .... I'm very pleased.

I really will still have to see if I can grow out the better Kaze phenos for reasonable yield, stretch and finish time, but as long as it's producing enchanting weed, I think it was worth heeding the advice and finishing out the grow.

Thanks for checkin' in friend .... I'll return to my Nordle fixation now. Oh my I have a big ass kicking veg room batch of plants that are really setting up nicely ....

best,
rabbit

Cptn, I just realized that the term "the last two pics" could mean the last two posted, or the prior two posted ... I'm guessing now I read you wrong and you're talking about the non HPS red shift pics ...

4 100 watt incandescent bulbs were used with one aimed straight at the subject in a hand held "trouble light".

best,
rabbit

ah yes, well the photography is accidental, virtually, but the bud is from the last pheno in there that I really have some hope for ...

'bout a week to 10 days I'd say ...

cheers,
rabbit

Kaze Pheno #2

At 73 days. Stretchy seedling plant, light yielder, fluffy bud with light trich coverage ("...other than that, how'd you like the play Mrs. Lincoln?")

However, there is a pleasing, mild hazy scent coming off the buds, and I haven't testered this one, so there may well be something worthwhile here. We shall see.

best,
rabbit

Hey BR,
how did the smoke test finally work out on your kaze? I know you were at the mercy of F1 variation with small numbers, but those last pics look pretty sweet :-)

PS: Happy New year!

cptn

Happy new year to you campadre'!

I had 4 phenos that produced some respectable smoke. The big fluffy one that I called 'the towering inferno' and took forever to finish .... it also produced a nice big yield of pretty good hazy smoke. Two other phenos produced good, but unremarkable smokables. One pheno produced some very delightful strong and tasty smoke. I kept that pheno and have two cuttings, one currently flowering, and another vegging out to monster size, hopefully, in an effort to determine whether or not I can coax enough yield out of her to make her a true mainstay keeper.

All in all ... I would have to agree with coop's recent assessment of the Kaze experience; good, but I wouldn't recommend it or try it again. That judgement may change somewhat if I can coax my probationary keeper into yeilding sufficiently, it really had a note to it that was unique and pleasing ... but all in all, I would think other MNS lines would be much better suited to indoor growing. Kaze could be a season long, outdoor monster, but as a small indoor plant, not ideal all in all.

cheers Cptn,
rabbit

Nice Grow, Rabbit!
...and well done on the Master Kaze... geez, theres a lot of different genetics in that plant ! and making a selection indoors?! You're a brave man, Rabbit!

Some hazy sativa looks for sure...

all the best!
