2010 - NL#5 x Haze

hi billy,

From the info posted that I ve read so far the mother of SSH is NL5HzC1-which is a F1 hybrid , a cross between NL5 and HazeC male....unless there is some info that has been posted from Nev or Shanti that shows otherwise..
Nev said the NL5 was the mother of NL5HzC1 and NL5HzC122(full sister to NL5HzC1) , so that also means the NL5HzC is not an inbred line.
..If they were..Nev would have not said that NL5HzC1 was a daughter of NL5. It would have been a NL5Hz daughter instead...

From the NH pedigree in the Chart for Grail that Nev posted its seen that NL5HzA (mother of NH) is also a F1 cross between NL5 female and HazeC male

Maybe Batman can chime in and help a bit , clarify what exact mother Shanti was refering to..

Hi l33t,
I read yr post a couple o times and didn't make sense of the last part. Could be my hangover doing this to me but i have to ask u: This must be a typing error no? U meant HzA male?
Respect.

hello all great convo

uncL33T it feels like the good ole days when you give us your input like that thx

I hope you dont mind her a link below from Ottoman at IC ,Somthing to look forward to

It be great to here more about your experience with the old nl5haze stock from the SB .Taste/aromas and what growth to look for in special keepers.

I think its interesting that the description in the 90 SB catalouge ,dry flowery perfume over a base of dark, leathery animal tones MMM MMM.Is very close to the description of hazeA from NEV but the reports of nl5haze on the net lean more toward his description of hazeC spice and sandlewood with my sacred frankincense trait being highly reported .

A lot of intellectual masturbation in that thread...

I do not believe one second that there is Ruderalis in the NL#5 used by Nev for his Hz hybrids...

l33t

Seen the thread where Batman posted I guess that the plant Shanti was refering to is the mother of MH or SHH.

Anyone who understand what is a Stabilzed F1 Hybrid would know that it refered to an inbred (NL#5 x Hz) X (Sk x Hz).

Peace.

The last few pages have been filled with a lot of great info to take in almost a little overwhelming for someone like myself. I have no useful input towards this conversation other than its a great read and I've learned more than I ever known about the backgrounds of these genetics. After finding little info about the strains history I am glad the community is contribution a lot information for future use to help others seek info on the old and new NL5xHaze!

another cut wanted to bloom, no matter what i did, 24 hours of light, taking cuts ... much nitrogen, grow stimulants .... for me it was clear, that this dna info told the plant its over, only after 5 years , i say only bc i lived in the assumption, that plants could be hold for ever ... as you can read sometimes somewhere .. and those storys of old mothers (parental stock), it could be true, but with such expiriences it makes me wonder, if u need to select a particular cut without those time limiting factors, and that made me again think ... how many seeds are necessary to find an unlimited time dna info plant ...

too many questions open, which collide with my expiriences, tho im not saying its impossible

Yeah, I had a cut self destruct genetically after just a couple of years, like 5 or 6 clone generations, it started putting branches off in all different directions, and deformed leaves, it got so bad I had to trash it. That just happened to me once though.

Nevil said on another thread somewhere, that they have a time limit, and I think somewhere around 20 or thirty years is the upwards extreme of that limit. He said eventually they die.

I had a friend describe my NL5Hz being like frankincense. I am not familiar with Frankincense, but I describe my NL5hz as being like a cross between insense and cognac. an intoxicating smell. Another friend of mine nicknamed it the Cognac bud. I agree, it had that kind of a smell.

My 5Hz pheno was very sativa, and had extremely dark green colored vegetation almost black, it also had around a 100 day budding cycle. It had the densist buds I have ever seen. They were pretty fat but not as fat as Gratephul's 5hz from shanti. Also the branching was totally insane on the original pheno that I had, like you could get giant donkey buds off of tertiary shoots. I have never seen a plant that branched like that, except maybe for some of its progeny.

Well I guess I will believe it when I hear it from Nevil or Shanti. I always thought that the NL5 was a clone that Nevil got from the Indian. And I always figured that when Nevil discussed NL5 he was referring to this clone, but I could be wrong.

Nevil does say in the following post that original NL5Hz was a simple F1 cross between NL5 and Haze male, when asked the following by Johnthepiper:
When a hybrid like NL5xHaze is created is it as simple as pollinating the NL5 with haze pollen one time,.
he responds with this answer:

Yes, all you have to do is find the right parents.

At this point it is mere speculation.

So is this post referring to a completely different strain than the new nl5hz?? ie nl5hzrudi

I used a Ruderalis for the NL5, picking the male carrying the R factor, which gave pollen at the fourth internode. Four generations a year. The 5th generation, ulimately was the best. I should have gone brother to sister at that point, but I thought it would continue to get better. I went to 8 backcrosses. What I learned was that after gen 4, the results were more dependant on the individual male, than the number of back crosses.
I used NL1 males for the HP and NL2 males for the G13. None of the back crosses ever produced a plant as good as the mother, although the NL5 came closest. Vigour was lost in all cases.

Great description

i love to hear of the reported frankincense trait once again. The congac is somtin i wouldnt think of wen i think haze but i can understand your assoication ,I believe the dark woody aroma from the oak barrels the congac is aged in might be how you correlate the two.

The new selected nl5haze from shanti seems to be quite a yileder aswell evident from some grows at IC.With the heavy sativa influence still very much present in growth pattern n flowering duration.I HOPE TO SEE IT IN THE TASTE/AFFECTS ASWELL.

Maybe oak barrels, but it is also that astringent smell, it smells kind of like alchohol, and my old NL5Hz had that kind of smell, it was divine.

Yeah, they look huge don't they? I have seen Gratephuls, it looks awesome, I can't wait to see what Chana's look like. Shanti's New NL5HZ is definitely on my wish list.

Regarding the frankincense trait. The most frankincense-y plants I have ever dealt with have all been k.c.brains hazes. Over half the phenos I have seen over the past three years growing it from seed have had the trait, many of them have been frankincense-y to the extreme, make you sneeze end of the spectrum. Lots of purple phenos too, I know thats somehow valuable to many people. IMO the purple phenos are too powerful in an unpleasant way.

Not advocating another seedbank btw...I'm actually ditching the haze special this year for NL5xHaze!

EDIT: I know k.c uses an original brazillian landrace hybrid, the "606" to create his haze by crossing it to a Nevilles haze. His south american additions to the genepool really seem to bring the frankincense out of the HazeC used in Nev's haze. Just an interesting thought I had.

Most appreciated

Tell me more (if you like this might be better suited for my frankincense trait thread ) apologies for goin off topic

Im curious to know exactly which of K.C strains gave you these extreme frankincense pheno's.The purple sounds like my type of smoke .

The T.N.R got my attention ,its a k2 indi crossed to a thai which is decribed as sandlewood, floral .Then in better detail as a smoke for thai conessuiers.
Interesting ,i always thought to ad that strain to my thread list as its become clear that certain thai's carry the incense trait

Im glad we are starting to rightfully recognize hazeC as the incense contributer

afaik, the only kc brains strain with an actual haze in the mix was the "haze special" which i tried outdoors a couple of seasons. it is advertised as a 9 week strain but what grew did not look very hazy nor was it very potent ime. now if one can find the proper kc33, you will cherish her the rest of your life. peace-biteme

It is certainly not a nine week strain, more like 12 weeks+ which is funny as it is advertised as being a "practical" alternative to nev's haze. K.C's haze is certainly not the most potent sativa buzz I've ever had myself either, and the purple phenos give me a "too powerful/confused" type buzz which I usually associate with indica hybrids. The frankincense aroma is front in centre in most phenos though, which is all I'm letting bigherb know about.

For what it's worth the smell is amazing.

my apologies bfskinner, it took longer than 9 weeks for me too which is why i put in the word "advertised". lol. i found purple specimens but none with the hazey qualities you described? imho, kc33 was the crown jewel for this breeder. years ago, it was in many dutch crosses but rarely seen these days? sort of like kc brains himself. lol. peace-biteme

Okay, I really don't wanna derail this thread but this is something I'm interested in.

The purple phenos of Haze Special that I have grown have not been "hazy" in any way really, and neither were the yellow/lime green frankincense phenos.

The purple ones gave a powerful but confusing high, like a bad Jack Herrer expression.

The frankincense phenos gave me a very simple energetic sativa high. Not powerful enough and lacking the "trippy" qualities which you can get from elite sativas.

Bear in mind however that I have to harvest them around 10th/15th of November.

One thing about them, even though they are weeks immature when I harvest them and they have an airy sativa structure, I still push half a lb+ per plant because they have about 5-7 feet of vertical budsites by harvest time. These things are monster jungle creepers, topped twice they usually go 12+ feet on me.

Blessings my friends!

I also wanted to say thanks for all the contributions and thoughts in this thread... I wish we could all share in the smoke come harvest time...

Here are the ladies at 38 days bloom...(took the pics on Friday, but did not have a chance to post till today).

Wish I could make these yield like Mr. Graphtuls... but hopefully on the next run, I can really pour in the E.C. and get some phater buds... still happy and the plants are producing more trichcomes every day of bloom...

I also found another pheno of the NL5Hz that I forgot to take a pic of on my last update. Re-introducing pheno C.

Chana

Thanks for the update

Your ladies are lookin lovely ,At week 5 i think they have some potential to be quite the yielders .It seem's some of these phenos can go well into 12 weeks n better

Best wishes

G`day Chana
Lookin good bro .
I`m with Herb on this one the last few weeks of bloom might surprise you ! I have read posts by NVL saying 5Hz gains weight in the last couple of weeks .Also as you have multiple tops on your plants the flowering is not concentrated into the main cola like Gratephuls .
{ I seem to recall him saying he thought they would respond well to topping }.

Patiences young Jedi .lol .

Thanks for sharin
Elmer Bud .
