Breeding techniques

Brock, is it too much to ask for more than one paragraph? :). Its quite difficult to read your post.

sorry i will see what i can do.:) my Internet connection is shit some times and i get cut off and have to reconnect certain time of the day. so i just rush sometimes so i don't get disconnected while posting. sometimes i lose the post i just wrote when it disconnect and have to start again.:(

thanks for pointing it out it's no good if you cant read it.;)

no problem for me with your long post brock1 :)

Donald and fellows, about the bears subject, could it be considered as a new species ?

It isn't a new species for the same reason there's only one species of cannabis. You can cross an indica to a sativa therefore they're the same species. If a grizzly can produce offspring with the groalar bear it isn't a different species...

hello greeninthethumb, i dont know if the taxonomy is the same in the vegetal and animal world (and i will check:)) but with the bear example i suppose if its not a species its not a subspecies too, nor a variety, its an hybrid. am i right ?

(2) segregation and recombination following sexual reproduction to produce novel multilocus genetypes

shit 2 edits and still cant get it right ,,
must be good erbs this morning ,
ill refrain from posting till the brain comes back online ,, lol ..

so you are saying that a polar bear and grizzly are actually the same species.

I just don't think that is true.

Well thanks for speaking for everyone.
Since everyone is so interested I'll tell you what I think.

Whether or not these Ursid hybrids constitute a new species is a matter of semantical debate.

In other words it depends on how you define "species"

Since you are so brilliant, and you think you know everything, and by the way I have never met a scientist(and I know a few) with your conviction.

I am certain Linnaeus would have defined it as a new species since it is capable of reproducing itself. Ursidae is a class of Family by the way, not species.

Here is what Wikapedia has to say about it:

i am not sure about the bears bm. but i watched a documentary were they skinned a lion and done a autopsy and said it's the same species as a tiger. the only difference is its coat other than that there the same cat.;) maybe the bears are the same i don't know for sure though.:)

maybe some one will remember what the documentary was called? they also chopped a crocodile and a shark it was on a few weeks not to long ago?

Thanks for the advice Itsbenfun, but I'd rather not, I'm just sick of these assholes, coming out of the woodwork, and using every iota of information that they have to form a rhetorical attack against Nevil and his breeding techniques. But then I guess I am just adding fuel to his fodder, so I am just going to shut my mouth.
I just want to learn what Nevil has to say about breeding, its his thread.
I am a bit inexperienced with these forums, and sometimes these trolls really throw me for a loop. Sorry.

The planet is not as old as we are lead to believe

What is it now? 4.5 billion? and the Universe is 8-12 billion? Consider the source of the information. Soon the Universe will be trillions of years old. Yeah I think the bears are already related.
Want to hear some more crazy shit? My Grandfather escaped the Armenian Holocaust at the age of 6. He lived at the base of Mount Ararat. His mom (My great Grandmother) was religious, and recieved instruction to leave the country, She took two little boys and walked across the continent and got on a ship for the US. 6 months later most everyone else was dead. Even women and children.
Grandfather told Me the story about Noahs Ark is true, and that people from our village had been on it before. It was only acessable after extended droughts of 15 years or more, and covered by snow and ice at all times.

I guess i should watch my mouth sometimes. I too just get frusterated paging through all this crap of 'Im right and your wrong' when i would just like to discuss possible scenarios or things ive done or you guys have done and there is just no room for anyone to chime in. I appologize for my potty mouth:D

Peace

That's one hell of a story. Glad you made it.

Great story. Never amazes me how many Americans I meet that are descendants of people who fled old world persecution.

Noah's Ark is almost certainly a true story, well, the Great Flood part of it at least. The Black Sea didn't exist in ancient times and by ancient, I mean pre civilisation, pre writing, long before the Old Testament/Torah was ever written down. Then there was a sudden inundation of the area and The Black Sea was formed. The Bosphorus was created first as the rising Mediterranean flooded that area then the mouth of the Bosphoprus where the modern day city of Instanbul (formerly Constantinople) gave way and water cascaded into the low-lying area that is now the Black Sea flooding it and wiping out all the settlements and people that lived there. Some survived by taking to their boats with their livestock and this gave rise to the Great Flood myth. There may well have been a fella called Noah who built a particularly large boat, it would have taken some time for the Black Sea to flood completely so if Noah lived in the north or east, he would have known the water was coming and had some time to build a boat.

There is usually a grain in truth in ancient myths, but like Chinese whispers they get embellished over time in the retelling and as many of them come from the time when all traditions were oral, they will all have been greatly altered over time with successive tellings.

breeding tech

Hi Everyone!

so the thread is about breeding techniques, and after reading it i would like to
contribute by sharing my style of breeding,if u can call it so :)

first my goal usually is to make f2's from the packs i order so i can have the seeds for future grows and sharing with friends, also don't want to buy the same variety again :)

i usually germinate all the seeds from the pack and grow one pack at time,
then i add some clones from other varieties that i like to veg with the seeds.

when the plants start showing preflowers i usually remove the spotted males to veg for couple more weeks and test them for smell, trichomes and so on, the articles from mr. Shantibaba are very useful for info on picking the males.

what i do is select only one and best male that matches the most traits im looking for, and pollinate all the lower buds of every female i got in the flowering,so i get 1:1 pollinations, so every female of the pack gets pollinated with the one and best selected male.

but it is only after the harvest is ready i know which females are the most interesting in growing again so i collect and label the seeds from every plant separately. so i get the f2's from which i can select the best females only and leave the rest of the seeds for future tests or feed them to birds.

and then i get some extra crosses to test out because there were clones of already known varieties in the flower with the ordered seeds.

so for example i order bubblegum from serious, and i have cuts/mommas of
skunk1, afghan and kush, i get the bubblegum f2's and bubblegum x skunk1, bubblegum x afghan and bubblegum x kush seeds also, i like this style the most because i get seeds from every female and crosses of anything i got going on atm.

i don't really mind which exact variety gets pollinated because its not my goal to make exact planned crosses but i try to save the best pack for the last so i can pollinate the previous packs mommas/cuts with the best packs father male :) and i always pop a few seeds from the crosses and put them on the side just for the fun, sometimes find really special plants in those :)

for the last id like to give my respects to mr. Shantibaba and mr. Neville for the priceless work u have done for our smoking community and the varieties u provided to us :) keep up the good work.

waiting for my black widow pack atm, cant wait to try that one out, have been reading theres some special males in that line :) chuck some pollen of that to make crosses of different cuts :D

Peace all!

Welcome, MisterX. When you start with the best genetics, every cross can have some amazing surprises. I did something similar to you last summer, and it'll take me 5 years to go through all the seeds I made... lots of fun, though.

Luther Burbank his Methods and Discoveries and their Practical Application's Vol #1

"...Every little bit Mr. Burbank has, as the neigh-
bors choose to call it, a $10,000 bonfire...In such a bonfire there would be 499 cherry
grafts out of the five hundred which we have just
made; there would be 19,999 rose bushes which
had been brought to bearing in order to find the
twenty thousandth which was not burned or
perhaps twenty thousand rose bushes, the one
sought for not having been worth the saving;
there would be 1,500 gladiolus bulbs with an easy
market value of a dollar a piece, put in the fire
after the one, or the two, or the dozen best among
them had been selected; there would be a
thousand cactus seedlings, representing three
years of care and watchfulness, but useless now,
their duty done. A ten thousand dollar bonfire,
indeed, without exaggeration....It is better," says Mr. Burbank, "to run the
risk of losing a perfected product, through the
destruction of the elements which went into it,
than to issue forth to the world a lot of second bests which have within them the power of self
perpetuation and multiplication, and which, if we
do not destroy them now, will clutter the earth
with inferiority or with mediocrity." "

I'm slowly going through Burbanks' books as I have time. I like joshuahazen's bonzai technique. I only have a problem with limiting the males so much and also I don't believe I can smoke that many males. My lungs would collapse. Seems to me a easier way is needed. What about PAPER CHROMATOGRAPHY. I did some reading and one problem with it is that the THC and CBN and CBD all track together. So you could narrow down 200 males to say 4 or 5 then smoke those. Basically paper chromatography is just paper propped up at an angle. Put what ever you want to separate on the bottom and add solvent. The molecules will separate by weight. Would take a little work to get it going. Finding a decent paper and finding what substance is separated out where. Once you had the basics worked out it would be very fast and accurate. If you took pictures that all had the same scale you could also track all other chemicals. Weed you liked could be compared and see what the traces looked like. I wouldn't buy expensive paper. Just find paper that is cheaper. Good paper has clay mixed in to give a smoother surface. You want just paper. A hole punch could be used to get a standard reference size. Paper chromatography, thin film chromatography, etc.. it can get a little deep but the basic idea is to visually separate the chemicals in the plant for easy identification. Now that we have a good system for identification of what we want and the bonzai technique for large numbers. Rapid improvement would seen.
