You got any deadly ones round by you Kanga? Back home in S.A we have plenty stuff that kills you quickly especially stuff that likes to drop out of trees and strike you. Then there are the sneaky fookers that like to just lie in wait till you get close.

Black Mamba, Green Mamba, Night Adder, Poff Adder, Muggers and Crazy Hobo's too..

Stay Safe out there man..

Sounds like my kind of place, I luv snakes as a young kid I used to come home from school and go out into the bush and catch Copper heads, Dugites, Tiger snakes and anything else that was poisonous and then when my mum came home from work she used to take me to the hospital where they would give me money for them so they could milk them for venom......I dont know how my mum put up with me sometimes:D

We have the King Brown, Rough Scale, Death Adder and the odd Tiger snake around here that can cause problems, but the Red Belly , although poisonous is almost harmless and they live right on our doorstep.

hey wheres the cam for those occasions to update the flora and fauna thread ,, hehe ,,
missed quite a few opportunities lately ,, no cam at right time ,, perfect dingo shot recently to be had , just the perfect shot ,,
im going to have to start carrying the cam wherever i go ,, you too mate , hehehe ..

Yeah mate I know.....thats what the Missus was saying, should have brought the camera. But then if you do that you can be sure you wont see anything:D

I know what you mean! When I was a kid, I was always in the bush, they called them racehorse goannas. You'd hear stories about goannas panicking and running up people, like they were a tree. There's lots of them about these days, people just aren't eating them like they used to.
N.

Yeah mate the good old Bungarra.....quite tasty if you got the right one.
I guess it's easier to go to coles and woolies these days than have to worry about being clawed to death, so we now have a population explosion.....jeez you can even get kangaroo already chopped up or minced these days, beats the hell out of having to chase one down......This world is getting lazy mate:D

Ha kanga remind me to never go bush walking with you i hate snakes i freek out think it comes from my child hood on the farm got chased by so many tiger snakes.

G`day Folks
Its a funny thing phobias we carry into adulthood eh ? I personaly don`t mind snakes and goannas although I have a healthy respect and am pretty anxious if I come across a brown snake but spiders make my skin crawl now not just any ol spider its the kind that are mobile that upset me eg Tarantulas[ sorry Doobs ] and Huntsman get me all freaky .Have to concur with Kanga on the Red Bellied Blacks though, pretty friendly for a poisonous snake , but Brown Snakes are very agro especialy in the Spring when work is gettin done to prep for the season . If I spot one my heart rate rockets as I have heard of people being bitten multiple times in one attack and its a long walk to civilization .And anti venine .
Apparently Aboriginal people if bitten would immeadiately lay down on the ground and stay still. They understood that the venom doesn`t travell as far or as quickly from the bite site if the victim is calm and motionless . The venom breaks down over a few days and the effects are sometimes not as toxic .I heard of a local guy who was bitten by a brown snake he said it was the strongest phycadelic he had ever expirienced ,and coming from this gentleman thats a hell of a trip [ DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME !]
Thanks for sharin
Elmer Bud.

I am getting old mate soft no more self preservation i am thinking lol.

I was living in a rainforest in the Sunshine Coast hinterland for some time. One evening I walked out on the verandah to look at the sky and in the corner of my eye I saw something large, black and round - sitting just next to the door that I didn't see before. I'm talking truck tire LARGE. I walked over just in time to recognise a 6 metre Carpet Snake.

Phew! Lucky it was just a carpet snake, but the bastard was as thick as my thigh and took about a minute to unravel before slowly sliding off. Just come in to say hello and remind me to be good:) Cos like the Bible said - I'm naturally bad.

I rember one time me and my cussin went up to obron hunting pigs we left the dogs in the cage and we went looking for trout and was grass srubs stall as me every wear walking along high as you my cussin turns and says ow by the way watch were your stepping i stooped looked at him and sed why he turns and says there's browns all threw here i shit and froze bastard starts to larf says it is fine here look pushes back this grass bush and there it was basking in the sun almost as thick as my forearm.

I had 2 option keep walking along the creek way or run towards the dirt road which i could see in the distance it was bad swaet shaking thinking which was worse so high at the time as i was thort road so turned and ran and i swear to you i must of jumped over 20 or more browns and seen even more never ever agine only thing im grateful for was it was morning and the fuckers were not warm yet.

my final summer of highschool I put some plants in a coastal scrub plot 150 metres back from the beach and maybe 75 metres from where I was living. One day I'm looking out the window and I see a hanglider sailing up over the dunes being dragged a few hundred metres behind a 4WD up the beach. this guy sails right over the plot which was visible from the air due some still being in pots

an turns around and circles the plants about four or five times

so i dash out and do a kamikaze and move 20 or so largish pots another 60 or 70 metres, and this was all banksias, long grass and lantana & i'm crawling thru these 2 foot high tunnels I slashed thru the schlerophyll

and who do I stumble upon coming my way - but a big Eastern Brown

both he and I freeze as we spot each other - 3 feet between our heads in a tight sandy tunnel and my heart is flooded with some chemical agent I've never experienced, and I'm about to jump out of my fucken skin!

and this bastard flicks out with a hiss

- back the way he came

:p

a couple of strong sativas amongst the hay that year:D

Face to face with a Carpet Python and a Red belly Black snake heading for the door:D

Good stories guys, cant remember how many times I was running down to check the surf out on a nice summer day and a big Coastal Brown was lying on the track.
This red hangs around the house all the time and one day I walked out the front door and he was lying on the black mate.....didnt even see he was there until I felt something under foot that wasnt quiet right, dont know who jumped the highest:D
Another day we had 2 big males fighting, twisting and turning around each other, hissing and carrying on and i was videoing them and squating down when they came right up between my legs, stopped looked up at me, hissed and kept going, fighting away, everybody just stood there and watched an no pics were taken:mad:

There is nothing quite like the feeing of the thought that your about to be struck.

When I was about 11 we had just had a cyclone.. I can remember the name but the low pressure system and the offshore blowing was bringing in some real nice swells and some of the older locals went out for a wave. We fucked about in the shore break avoiding all the shit that was floating about in the water.

Come about 3 in the afternoon I want to grab some chow and start running home. I dunno why but when we were kids we ran everywhere..

Anyways. As I was running home through what was left of the mangroves a Green Mamba slithers right out in front of me..

I Shit you not.. I must have won the gold medal in Long jump, High Jump and fuck knows whatever other shit I did in the air while I jumped over this fucker.

The rush that I got was immense and I couldn't stop laughing nearly all the way home..

I always remember hearing stories from my mom about when they were kids and one of their mates got bitten by a mamba. Their leg swelled up and blistered and went purple. They could not get the girl fixed up in time and she died. Maybe the fear of snakes stemmed from that but to this day I still remember that as clear as day..

ive beat'en off eastern diamond backs out of plants before lol, that why i always have my 410 on me all the time now when i wander the woods...

when we were kids we use to jump into the ditches around the house, and i remember one time i jumped in hit to close to the bank and sunk in about 3ft of mud....and remeber snakes coming out of the mud when i landed, was a spawning area for them....that will freak you good...but good ol cracker fun

G'day Kanga - any peculiarities with the MMWW as far as sexual expression goes - as in slow to show? Reason I ask is because 3 of the 4 MMWWs I have, have yet to show gender while all the other strains have. Perhaps I should phrase it as, do the female MMWWs send out their pistils like most other strains, or anything unusual there? Or am I just in denial that my biggest shrubs might be male?:D

Hi mate, I dont think they are going to sex now. Did you have a good look with a mag glass cos sometimes they only show 1 tiny pistil.
Anyway if ya want a female let me know :D
