100% Exodus Cheese

Hi Doobz
I got the tarantula when it was a juvenile, I don't remember the type, I think that it was just called a bird eating tarantula. It'd eat baby mice, but they had to be alive. I thought it was a female, so I put a male in there, but she killed it, so it was a life of solitude after that. Apparently, 5 years is a respectable age for a spider.

Nice plants there, looks like super skunk. How's the smell?
N.

Great idea about the polyester resin Nev, when my spider sheds I intend to keep all the skins as a record of his development, I might try putting them in resin, would be a wicked paper weight.

Growing is very addicitive.

Hobby breeding is even more addictive, opens up whole new avenues. There is something special about watching plants grow that you made from other plants you have studied, so fascinating to watch a batch of your own seeds grow and spot the traits and features you recognise from either parent and new ones you haven't seen before that are recessive. It's addictive man, you're opening pandora's box and you may get completely addicted live I have, but it's all good, in today's world where most seeds you can buy from most companies are hacked together with no more skill or resources than many amateurs can manage and certainly a fraction of the love and care then it makes personal breeding projects all the more valid.

Of course, Mr Nice seeds and forum are a key antidote to all the BS breeding and as Nev and Shanti are always encouraging and helpful, we couldn't have better help.

Interesting Nev thinks that looks like Super Skunk, it is probably a Skunk hybrid as I don't think it's the Exodus Cheese cut, it has more resin and a slightly different bud structure, the Exodus is more of a fat foxtails type bud. It could be the one that gets caleld Suicide Cheese. I think it's safe to say it's a Dutch Skunk type and that is probably as close as we can get to the precise lineage. There has always been less precise naming and documenting of the history of cuts in the UK than in the US, so there are loads of cuts around that we can only make broad statements as to the exact origins, but as long as they are good and you enjoy them, it's not really important I suppose.

Very nice cheesehead, your numbers always impress me. You did very well with that ECSD, she is not the easiest to get a good yield from as she stretches and strethes. You can clearly see the Super Skunk heritage in the buds of the ECSD. I have a small ECSD flowering now, came from a totally different source to yours but I think it is the same cutting, the leaves on yours look exactly like the leaves on mone and your buds look exactly like mine did last time I ran this cut I have. How long did you let your ECSD go? I find it takeable from 9 weeks but she really needs 12 to be as good as she can get. At 9-10 weeks she is powerful but the high is of short-ish duration, if you leave her 12 the high lasts much longer and more of the fuel comes out, at 9-10 I find her to be more lemons and solvent, but left 12 the really deep fuel funk comes out more.

I am having a nightmare with my SSH, out of the first 4 I have flowered, all were male, I kept the nicest most sativa looking one that took the longest to show sex. I have 4 more in veg but they have been in the dark for 3 days cos my LED veg array blew up and my supposed next day delivery on a 125W blue CFL still hasn't arrived, so these 4 have stretched a ton and will need some TLC to get em going again properly.

The SSH male I've kept will be dusted onto the ECSD and my Mexican just to preserve some SSH genes and also, the ECSD x SSH Rez did was killer. I'll be sure to share the beans I make around the good folks in the UK, by good folks I mean everyone except doc, the boy and his cronies! lol

Sorry, couldn't resist poking some fun at em. I'll have some SSH pollen to share if anyone wants a bit, 2-3 weeks and I should have a ton of it.

i took her 77 days but i should of let her have 7 days more as what u said is right strong smoke but didnt last long .. next time i run her she will go a full 12 weeks . shes a great smoke in my top 5 smokes for sure.

I agree mate, she is in my top 5 smokes too and has been since I first tasted sour diesel. She can go as long as 16 weeks if you let her and just gets bigger and bigger, at 16 weeks she will kill all but the most hardened toker, she gets deeply fuelly then and is like a narcotic. 12 is the sweet spot though imho.

Those Bird Eaters are quite savage. They are one of the breeds we have never had. 5 Years is not a bad age but they can live loads longer then that. One of our oldest spiders is just over 8 years old I think. She is a Chilean Rose. She has had a few successful egg sacks but seems to just eat them now once they are spun. We find that by feeding the females before breeding they are less prone to chomping the males. We have had some deaths and close calls but seem to have it under control now.

The smell coming from the plants is not bad but if I touch the buds I get the smelliest skunky, sweet, pungent smell and the resin is very very sticky. Its actually quite hard to pull my fingers apart after a good squeeze of the buds.

I hear what your saying about the breeding. I think it a bit like cooking but adding new flavours to the meal and not tasting it till the end. I was a chef for about 5 years and I used to like to experiment.

I am not sure what it looks like.. I know it smells like cheese and the buds are starting to swell nicely now. I am looking forward to seeing what they can do in this hydro system..

I'll be able to tell ya if it's the Exodus when it's done if I can taste it, I wouldn't be bummed if it wasn't as the Exodus isn't the best of the Cheese.

Denis has been very active last couple of days, first he excavated a tunnel under the tree root, I never saw him do it but noticed there were several large piecs of coco that had appeared and he can now go under one side and come out the other.

Last night I spent two hours watching him excavate coco out of his coconut hide. I was so surpried when he appeared from under the coconut carrying a big pile of excavated coco in his front mandibles/legs and dumped it a few inches away. He did this a dozen or more times then spent an hour just inside moving his legs about rapidly, I haven't had a look under the coconut to see what he's done yet but i think it's safe to say he's making himself at home here.

I put a live cricket in last night and he ignored it, the stupid thing walked past him a couple of times, then noticed him, shat itself and ran away, he never chased it. I haven't seen the cricket today so maybe he caught it and ate it while I was asleep.

BTW, I'm keeping it at 27-28C for him now but not sure what the humidity should be, it's low atm at 36%, I'm refilling his water bowl tomorrow, I was thinking of using a small sprayer to mist the tank to raise the rh bu no idea how high it should be?

Hiya mate.. No probs.. I will drive up to your neck of the woods when this is ready and you can sample it to see what it is :)

The temps sound good but the humidity seems a bit low to me. we try to keep it above 50% - 60%

They are destructive things too mate. We use Plastic milk bottle lids for their water in some enclosures and one or two of them tip out the water and move the lid around and bury the lid.

What you will probably find is inside his coconut he is removing some substrate so he can make a web of silk for when he sheds his skin so the substrate does not scratch or irritate his fragile fresh new skin.. One thing we never like to do is move their place where they spin their web..

What you can do if you need to raise the humidity when misting the tank is just mist 1 section of Coco really well so he can move between the different zones in his tank.

I am glad he has become more active now. Its nice when something like that can occupy your time. Its like fish.. I can sit and watch fish for hours and hours.. Very relaxing. I quite like birds too but they can be a bit noisy. I used to keep Finches when I was a kid but when I came to the U.K to visit my mom, my step brothers used to let them go..

ukcheesehead those are some nice looking plants there mate. They do look very different from mine.. Sorry I didn't reply sooner.. Only just saw your pics.. Weird..

Be great to meet up mate, there are tons of good places here for a nice meal, we could meet up for Sunday dinner somewhere. My next harvest is a few weeks off yet so I won't be able to treat you to any of my stash but will do as soon as I have some.

I'm keen to see if Denis sheds any day now, I realised he was upto something under the coconut due to the frenetic leg activity, I'll not move the coconut to take a look and wait and see, I'll take a look after when I retrieve the shed skin.

Still not seen that cricket so i think he must have eaten it. I'll pop another one in there in a few days.

I've dug out a small spray bottle and have misted one half of the tank, rh is upto 64 now, I'll try to keep it that way. I'm really enjoying having him, finding it fascinating indeed.

I think he's really made himself at home now, and I'm glad I added the tree root and coconut, gives him more interesting environs to explore, he seems to like the tunnel he has made under the root, he often sits down there for a while and when he is moving about he goes under one side and out the other frequently. He likes to bask on the root where the light/heat patch is so all in all, I think he has a good environment with areas of different temperature and illumination and as couple of place for him to hide, he seems a bit scared of noises near him atm as when I plonk a tea cup down on the desk near his tank he jumps a little. I'll start handling him soon so he gets used to it.

Looking very good Doobz, I remember growing cheese about 15 years ago when no one had ever heard of it in the UK. We would have over a thousand growing in each crop but the smell became to much. We would often be walking to our grow and you could smell it from half a mile away, this was in a large industrial unit.... We switched to POG with great sucsess..

Im keen to see how this log goes so please keep us updated....

Hey Matt, Thanks for stopping by.. 1000 plants hey? I have never grown POG - I might try it sometime.. It looks interesting and suited to loft growing in my case.. Are you still growing? Would love to see some commercial goodness :)

Pot of Gold was a very popular commercial strain in the UK and not bad smoke either, the cut is still around I hear, it yields massive and can be pushed real hard in hydro. It's Hindu Kush x Skunk #1. Seedsman used to sell the same thing but it's sadly been discontinued. Gypsy Nirvana sold 'Golden Skush' which was also HK x Sk1. I doubt the current Pot of Gold seeds are as good as the old version. I preferred The Real mcCoy which is Hawaiian x Skunk and has a similar yield and ease of growth but took a bit longer.

Nice info British_Hempire. To me it seems like thats the way that most strains go over time. You always hear of the way the strains are never the same compared to older versions of the same thing.

What is the reason behind this and can those old skool strains ever be re-made to be as good as the originals?

It's a simple thing really, in 1998 the Dutch introduced the Geoden law that banned growing for seed production. Prior to this you could grow tens of thousands of plants for seed as long as you composted or burnt the plants afterwards.

This is why Shanti left at the end of 98, that and he was sick of Arjan and had a better offer to go work in Switzerland.

Since 98 the seed cos in Holland have lost tons of parentals to police busts and have been forced to replace them from seed, without the ability to grow big numbers, they are working with tiny populations so the quality inevitably declines.

Yes, you could remake the classics if you had the right seed to look for new parents. For instance, if Shanti wanted to make a Pot of Gold, he already has Skunk parentals, and to find a good Kush to cross to it I'm sure he has the right seed to look within.

Some classics are gone in their original quality form because the seed to find new parentals is gone or the original used a unique cuttings such as G13.

Nev's Haze parents were so precious because he only had a few Haze seeds that germed and incrossing Haze reduced it's desireability. Good luck findinf original pure Haze seed these days, I doubt anyone actually has any, there are things that are probably close such as the ot1 hazes and the pure Haze from Seedsman, but finding new Haze parents would be a huge labour and not easy in the slightest.

Sadly im not growing at this moment in time, ive not long been released from jail, i was caught in a commercial grow in Manchester for which i received 2 years. Got out in April..

In that factory we had 500 hundred plants flowering under 100 600w hps. The plants were POG but as BH has said, they werent as good as the originals. We were still expecting to achieve a minimum of 3oz per plant. I honestly couldnt tell you what the smoke was like as i dont smoke it and never have (strange really considering the amount ive grown)...

Although i dont smoke it i take great pride in the growing side of things, i love growing and couldnt imagen doing anything else. Its and addictive passion....

As for pictures i shall post some early next year....:D

Damn dude, I guess you can count yourself lucky they didn't stick you down for longer hey Matt?.. I am glad your back up and running again though and look forward to seeing your grows in the future.

I can go months without smoking and sometimes I will just have the odd nibble now and then. I actually prefer eating cannabis to smoking it.

What kinda thing do you think your going to be growing when you start up again mate?

Stay Cool,
Doobz

Sorry to hear that matt, hope the time inside wasn't too tough on ya, it's crazy to send a fella to the nick for growing a medicinal plant. Dutch wanted to give me 6 months for 250 cuttings and 5 kilos of trim, what's the world coming to?

Wish more commersh guys took pride in their stuff.

The PoG I remember was in Manchester, used to be standard commercial fodder there a few years ago, it wasn't bad at all, I certainly preferred it to Cheese and Blue Cheese that is all the rage there now.

I was sent some seeds by an old friend in Italy who seems to have got himself settled and breeding again. He got fed up of life in the U.K and just one day disappeared. I feared the worst and thought he got caught!

A month or so ago I received a handwritten letter from him explaining what he is up to over there and he passed on his contact details. He asked if I would like to try some of his seeds and I agreed because of the situation I was in.

He is only doing feminized stuff and I thought I would give them a go to try and help him out and give him some feedback.

The Cross he sent me is quite interesting. Its Northern Lights x Black Widow. He did not mention germ rates or hermi issues so I guess thats for me to find out.. He did however mention that the Northern Lights (F) he used produced the biggest Cola's he had seen so I am quite interested to see the results.

I was meant to receive them on Saturday but the postie was awol so they turned up this morning and I got them into cotton wool asap..

Usually I would put them straight into some lightly packed coco but since its a test grow I need to give specific times about germination etc to the breeder. Doing it this way in this situation gives us a better indication of whats going on. They could all be duds!

I also cracked on with the other side of the loft. I gave it a good clean and then hung up the Black and White sheeting. This stuff was a lot thinner then the other stuff I have had before and it gives a crinkly kind of finish compared to the smooth finish. Not the end of the world..

I will probably put all my mother and male plants up there again once they are all a bit more established. The tent thats being used for the mothers now will be used to get the males to pollinate.

What do you do for the heat signature fro your lights??? A friend of mine wants to do a small grow in his loft and ive agreed to help him with the plants ect..

Its new to me doing this kind of grow, thats why im very interested in these new minimax lights, heres some data on them..

THIS IS THE LIGHT EVERYONE WILL BE USING!!
BRINGING INNOVATION TO GROWERS EVERY WHERE!

Finally the lighting solution revolution has arrived. Following a three year period of research and testing The MINIMAX 150 micro-processor ballast has finally completed trial testing, qualifying the Minimax 150 for CE registration. Fully tested and registered the Minimax 150 is now ready for the market.

Running at less than 0.7amp we feel that this little unit will revolutionize indoor grow lighting. No longer do we have to compromise with CFL bulbs or LED panels.

The MINIMAX 150 operates with either Metal Halide (blue vegetative) or, High Pressure Sodium bulbs (red flowering). Test results have shown that two MINIMAX 150 units produce larger yields than any one 600w Digital unit. The 600w Digi ballast is rated at 2.75amp whereas the MINIMAX 150 is rated at 0.64amp. In real terms you could run five Minimax 150 units for the same power consumption as one 600w digital unit. If you are using old magnetic 600w ballasts you can run 11 of these.

As we have lots of experience with hydroponics these are considered by us to be the future of indoor gardening. Forget cfl's and LED lighting as they are just not up to the job. We have tested these and they perform really well. It makes 600 watt lights look ancient and out of date. The amount of area you can cover for a low cost is amazing.

We calculated that depending on where you live a 600w magnetic will cost you over £1.20 per day to run (average), These cost 11p a day to run (based on our electric supplies ) ,Which is a massive difference. Also you can run smaller extraction as the heat build up is non existent, you will never need air cooled shades with these lights, How cool is that!

Advantages of the Minimax 150w include the following

Draws only 0.63 amp
Reduced power consumption. Uses a fifth when compared with the 600w ballast
High lumen output
Low bulb temperature. Reducing the need for high volume cooling fans Added stability for the environment
Full RF filtration
No need for costly contact/relay controllers Operates when used with any timer
Operates with either M/H or HPS 150w bulbs
The Minimax 150 Ballast carries a full three year guarantee

Considering the above advantages we confidently conclude that the MINIMAX 150 is the most environmentally friendly Ballast available, producing maximum output for minimum power consumption.

The Minimax 150 is not a standard electronic ballast; The Minimax 150 is a completely new way to control light/energy omitted from your bulb. The most technically advanced electronic ballast available anywhere. Why is The Minimax 150 so different? The reason is not merely about reduced power consumption. The Minimax 150 electronic ballast uses the latest micro-processor technology to regulate and control the energy to light ratio. This allows for the use of either HPS or Metal Halide bulbs.

The Minimax 150 ballasts contain new technological micro-processers which regulate the ballast as follows

Makes continuous adjustments based upon lamp type used Monitors the bulb to maintain the optimum light output to power ratio Reduces energy consumption and bulb temperature producing maximum light Adjusts to compensate for bulb degradation Controls light output to bulb temperature efficiency, (maximum light, minimum energy)

The Minimax 150 is programmed to soft start. No need for the usual initial start-up power surge to ignite the bulb. This will extend bulb life and allows for several units to start at the same time, without a large draw on power.

The Minimax 150

Completely silent in operation.
Fully compliant with all CE Regulations for safety.
