might have to look at 2 types of Grails Nev

Two for sure

Type 1. NH to unrelated female.
Quite a few will be eligable for this one and there will be more than one good one. But one is always the best (according to my taste).

Type 2. Back-cross to Haze or Haze Hybrid not descended from A or C. They are out there, but there's a lot of pretenders too. I'll run different NH brothers over the candidates. I should be able to put together a Haze breeders package out of these matings. I fear that after this, inbreeding to HzA and HzC will be unavoidable.

Every thing grown out can be grown in to mate but sativas need to be treated diffrent indoors to indicas or sat/indica of say 50/50 mix.

Achiveing a pound and 1/2 indoors from 1 plant is not hard and say useing 30 watts per sq ft is not impossible the reality is most cant run sats and indoor growing made it possible for people to grow any line they want any place they want.

A few years ago i rember hearing about a scientis that got cought growing his stash in antartica so if they can grow it there they can grow it in the space station lol.

You can even grow trees indoors the saying is true if theres a will there is a way.

Nevilles haze acts like a pure sativa i have seen some quolity examples of them done indoors posted threw the years most people fuck up by harvesting to early we both know when a sativa looks ready you still let them go longer well i do lol.

30 % amber "if" the resin heads amber and when you think its done go another 2 weeks or more. Its damn near impossible to overdue a sativa. I don't run much indoors but I have friends that run tropicals in the south and northern hemispheres, sometimes you need to use 13/11 to finish Thais/Lumbos and I suspect that Africans would possibly need a different light schedule also..I'm just not as familiar with them. I've heard girdling is needed to help spurn some varieties.

Nevil,

What's your time frame for this? There are a lot of potential strains out there but growing from seed, veg time, flower time, selection.. it takes time. Seems like a lot of good heads are looking to help out with this project.

Ohh definetly mate...I remember photos of indoor giants before Scrog or Sog came into play. I always thought they looked so good:D
Yeah mate my theory is the same if they look ready, give it another 2 weeks if possible or push them for as long as you can:D
Trouble is people dont have the patience to do good sativa's under lights, well most dont......your not included in that one of course:D

Picklez....Yeah mate for sure, as I said to Hempy some people dont have the patience to deal with a long flowering Sativa
so I sort of meant a indoor and a outdoor Grail

Collectively, we have already begun and I am taking everyone's suggestions seriously. The logistics pose problems, but where there is a will...
I'd say, that with more than 20,000 hits in two weeks, this topic is close to people's hearts, we all want to see it happen. Can't stop that!
I'll bet that there'd be quite a few people willing to test the results of "Snow's choice" for types 1 and 2. There are others that have valuable contenders.

It'll be like "Dancing with the Stars", except we all get stoned instead, but we do get to vote. Of course, you'll pick what I like best, as you always have done. (proving there is such a thing as taste). That works so well because I am you, I'm my own best customer.

You know, sometimes you smoke a bit of Mango Haze (thanks mate) and you write some crap and you wonder, does this really need to be floating around on the internet for eternity, and then you think, ah fuck it.
N.

Can not wait to smoke the GRAIL!

Hey Nev!

It better be done you have like 4000 people waiting to smoke the GRAIL right now!

I wish to be in the first 100 people to try it on earth!

I will start NH soon to be sure I'm making that strain loving me as we know the NH will be in that pedigree!

Snow nice collection Bro!

Love you so much Nev you r the Best we will always remember you!
With or without the GRAIL!
fuck it's going to be on the web 4 ever

The area for improvement was not the NL5xHz mother, SB already has cuttings of the best ever produced. The improvement would be in the SKxHz father.
N.

It all boils down to this. With NH and NLH, we have two potential parents for the Grail. We just need something superlative to breed them to.

But do you want a plant that is the strongest cross available a la NH, or do you want the strongest cross available to suit a wide range of conditions i.e. SSH?

Seems to me the latter has the greater commercial value. So then why stop at one Grail? Why not take control of the market like in '89 with a range that takes the Cannabis cup trifecta and leaves cunts babbling like they're middle class wannabee homeboys on acid?

The supersativa Grail is fine, but if its twenty weeks flowering; the chardonnay sativa lovers won't buy it. Plenty of NH seeds still around but very few growing them. Plenty of Tom Hill haze seeds around, very few growing them.

Despite what people are saying regarding any sativa can be grown indoors etc. - the reality is very few people bother to grow the 20 week sats indoors (or out), and the way attention deficit disorders are burgeoning, methinks that trend can only worsen.

Hempy a real McCoy grower has grown Nev's indoors but prefers Mango haze, same for just about everyone. The Snow's and Kangativa's of the world are a fringe element not reflective of the market norm.

Nev's Haze is 75% sativa, SSH, MangoH, Jack Herer et al - roughly 62.5% sativa, NLHaze 50% sativa. That gives you three parameters for latitudinal & indoor/outdoor vagaries.

So again - take the economic shitstem by storm with a trinity of Grails (initially) a 75% sat, 62.5 % sat and a 50% sat. Then cross NH to a pure sat or sats a la Mullum Madness, Meao Thai & or Malawi Gold - for the odd chaps who have patience and don't mind conversing with the Gods when they light up the chalice.:)

I definately second the malawi gold suggestion....malawi adds the conversing with gods, still have not smoked a better strain then this malawi hybrid http://www.mrnice.nl/forum/showthread.php?t=2745&highlight=catalyst

Apologies for the C-word. I uttered it unconsciously, I acknowledge the Yoni is the sanctum sanctorum.

Both botanical and biological examples.

Yoni Haze - I just coined that phrase.

I agree with Hempy, Nevil has thrown a missive and suddenly Mr Nice forum is the online focus - so where's the advertising?

Cos this post has been sponsored by a Mendocino Skunk /Haze joint, grown independent of Monsanto Sam and his Austraian successor's, by a big red Kangaroo.

is it me or do the buds from "back then" look alot different to the buds of today in terms of solidness etc?

Hi All

well been busy with alot of catching up work and pollinations so found a moment after reading this rather long thread to pop my nose in and say hi.

Nev, just happy to see you got into the online world interactively and all seem to love that...no matter whether the Holy Grail is found or takes 10 yr to make...but we will make it like we did the rest.

I have been toying with a few of the original Skunk Haze plants for some time and think that finding a father in a new set of beans would be possible .Considering I think this line is a hard to improve on line, there must be a great male waiting to combine in it.
Secondly I have spoken to Rob Clarke a few times about places we consider to be the last of the undiscovered land races of sativas and we both agreed it to be in the area above Calcutta to Burma...Nagaland, Arunashal Pradesh area. I have permits with several friends to visit in October and we will be in the hunt to speak with the tribes people and going on Rob`s visit and analysis it seems a few tribes in particular...but I will not mention them so as not to expose exact locations. So this is something that holds potential.
Lastly I received lately a few special seeds from a man who just passed away on the island of Reunion . He had been growing a strain known as many names but this was the source of the original ZAMAL sativa grown at an altitude of 1350m for as long as 40 years...and this is ready for preliminary work so I will keep you all informed of the outcome.

All in all it is a great idea to pool resources from the best of the best directly from growers who show the same passion...exactly where the internet will set us free.

So keep up the great work all, and may I add to Nev, if you puffed on the Mango Haze...and wrote so happily you must admit it was equally as impressive in certain ways as the SSH, no?

Be safe and stay well Shantibaba

Hi Shanti,
Great to see you....
I am also germinating some Zamal seeds from a landrace inbred there by a native.
It will be nice to compare them.
Peace.

R.C.Clarke said:
'Original Haze, is a pure-breeding stabilized IBL developed from a pure C. sativa polyhybrid created from predominantly Mexican and Colombian varieties along with some South Indian and Thais varieties. 'Original Haze' started as a magical mix of the most exotic C. sativa varieties available in California in the early 1970s. Some of the early types were lost but through diligent selection and inbreeding Cultivator's Choice preserved the essence of the variety in their 'Original Haze'(...)
in: Indoor Marijuana Horticulture, J.Cervantes, 1993 p.360-361

Looks like CC has not had much luck in germinating their old batches of Hz seeds...

Peace.

WOW! 23,827 Hits!

This thread gets better and better each day!

It's great to see so much positive energy been put into this topic/quest.

Bring on The Grail!

Hey Nevil, does the NL#5 still exist on its own to get in seed form? Or can you only get it as part of the make up of a hybrid on offer here at MNS? I never tried it back in the day.

After reading this thread, I can safely say that I am a complete novice regarding Cannabis strain history. I missed out on some of the great old strains.

Good luck with the trip Shanti, I hope you find what your after.
