Widow Hunt

Greetings all,

Bit of an update. Currently we have 15 females, 9 males and 1 still left to show. The males have all been culled and i have also decided to grow out the 15 females, couple of reasons for this. This is my first time flowering under LED so bound to be some trial and error getting that dialed in as i move away from HPS but also, i'm not growing for yield or profit but to try and find an example of the widow i remember from the late '90's, so by flowering these ladies now I should at least be able to get a gauge on their feeding habits and flowering times etc so that when it comes to making selections further down the line I already have a data set for each of these phenos.

So, with that said, here we are at day 2 of 12/12

1790607255245.png
1790607311632.png

As you can see, quite a few different phenos but this plant is still by far my favorite, not of the others have grown the same, have the same structure or internode spacing on the side branching.

1790607457648.png

Just hope she finishes in under 10 weeks so she makes it through to the next round but so far she is defo the stand out. Still has a tropical/musky smell when disturbed but now seems to developed a distinct grapefruit note too. I'm really looking forward to seeing how she does - hopefully the stretch is kind as currently only about 60cm of headroom left for her to grow into and ideally i don't really want to train or top her.

Right now they are currently being fed on 3ml/l of Old Timer Grow and 2ml/l of root stimulator.

Things i need to get done this week:
- Make some kind of support for them
- Give them another spraying with neem oil to finish off any remaining thrips left in the room (still noticing some leaf damage though not as bad as before)
- Take cuttings from each plant
- Defoliate all the lower vegetation once cuttings have been taken
- Add a wall mounted fan to aid with circulation.

That's about it for now, thanks again for all the support, will update again in a week or so or when something exciting happens.

Take it easy.

Hi All,

Update time!

Fair bit going on since last time. We seem to have three distinct phenos from the 15 ladies left.

We have this one which seems to lean towards the Indica side of the fence. Kinda short and squat with fat ol' fan leafs

1791626931513.png
1791627003878.png

Then we have this one which kinda seems like a hybrid

1791627071956.png
1791627096485.png
And then we have this absoloute weapon...

1791627131360.png

This is the one that has been my favorite so far but now appears to have activated absolute beast mode. Tomorrow marks day 14 or 12/12 so i'm hoping the stretch is almost of - If it's not then things are going to get interesting because, as you can see, there's not much head room left! :D:D

Had some 1x1 batton left over from another project so used that to build a frame for the ladies and also mounted a fan on the wall get some aor moving over the canopy.

1791627451014.png

That plant you can see outside of the frame is actually a male. It looked to good to bin, decent structure with fairly tight internodes and a good amount of side branching and with @Diesel840 comment in the back of my mind, seems like it makes sense to keep a male back to maybe have a go at make some seeds further down the line

Have trimmed back everything bellow the first support bracing to hopefully get the girls to focus on top growth but looking back maybe got a bit to happy with the snips! Also added a clip on fan to get some air moving underneath the canopy too.

1791628065009.png

But over all they seem pretty happy in their home now the have some decent support from the frame and the string trelace to help keep them in place.

1791628513544.png

If they make it upto the second brace i'll add a second layer of string trelacing but going forward i think i'll replace the string with some of those elasticated SCROG nets as they can just clip onto the four corner posts and be adjusted as needed.

Have also taken clones of all 15 ladies (x2) and they seem to be doing ok in their new home:

And Finally, one last photo of the beast....

1791628653729.png

This one shows better just how little room she has left to stretch. At the moment she seems to be tolerating the intensity of the LED being so close but will keep an eye on it and maybe train her a bit if i have to but would rather not.

At the moment they on nothing more that Old Timers Grow at 4ml/l which will switch to bloom from the next feed with a pk boster probably starting the week after.

Lots going on, i love this part though as the stretch finishes and the buds start forming! :-D

Anyway, hope you all have an awesome weekend and thanks again for stopping by!

Nice, Tommy! You can never have too many Widow seeds to play with 😁.

She will likely stretch a bit further. You could always pinch the top growth to encourage lateral growth, bend and twist so her top is parrallel to the others, and or put her outside of the nice area you have and keep her putside rhe direct grow zone. Both Shantibaba and Nevil have recomended doing this with equatorial sativas like Haze or crazy Widows. Put them on the outside edge of the grow space. Let them finish there.

They all look AWESOME! I hope that you find the Widow you have been looking for 😁

@Diesel840 - Thank you for the kind words!! In the end i had to train her and top her as she flew too close to the sun and got a bit burnt!

1793126177648.png

1793126205672.png

But she seems to have forgiven me but now i worry about the same with the side branching as they show no signs of slowing down...

1793126292387.png

I think it is fair to say that she will not make the cut for the next round. As much as i love here she's just not practical to grow indoors sadly.

In other news, bud formation is now setting in and new favorites are emerging.

This is #1, she's only a tiny plant - around 3 ft tall - but the bud sites are pretty tight and already starting to swell, also starting to see trichomes on the surrounding fan leaves.

1793126654081.png
1793126718265.png

Also number #10 is showing real promise too - Taller and more of an allrounder hybrid in height and structure, just a beautiful plant.

1793126870564.png1793126888897.png

All of the cuttings have now routed with 100% success rate so now need to be potted up tomorrow

1793127024000.png

Thrips seem to be making a comeback a bit so have ordered some of these in the hope that nature can do it's thing for me....
1793127129989.png

Finally, It's starting to look a bit like a jungle in there and the fact it is starting to look a bit untidy is making my brain itch a bit but, i much prefer a nice even canopy, i guess that is what comes with trying a pheno hunt...

1793127251143.png
1793127306800.png

Currently day 31 of 12/12 and they're on 4ml/l Old Timer Bloom and 1.5ml/l Oldtime PK and will probably stay on that for a couple of weeks before dropping the PK.

Think that's about it for now.

Take it easy all!

I would so much love space like that :_)
Nice plantage :)
Tommies set up is sick. All these growers who have such killer spaces and putdoor grows are living the dream!

Awesome grow Tommy

Thank you both for the kind words! It's very much still a work in progress but it is getting there. I still need to plasterboard the far wall etc but the urge to get growing outweighed the urge to get it perfect before doing so.

So, just a small(ish) update this week.

#1 has slowed down a little bit, I was expecting her to push on and plump up over the past week but she's still a pretty plant.

1793820120026.png
1793820147007.png

And #11 is starting to put on some timber...

1793820204585.png

But it is two new plants that have caught my eye this week. First we have #4, she seems to have bloomed from nowhere. She's about 5ft tall and kind of on the hybrid sid of things but the internodes are starting to fill in nicely..

1793820362360.png

The other that caught my eye was #9 - She's more squat and Indica leaning but is already pumping out the trichs...

1793821618716.png

Even on the stems....

1793820518554.png

She's defo one to keep an eye on.

In other news, it seems that the Sat Dom's are more unruley than ever and appear to be suffering from a calcium def...

1793820698977.png
1793820735468.png

I've never had issues with calcium before but having had a bit of a read around it seem that when growing under LED it can become a thing. I have given them a half strength dose of calmag and will keep an eye on them. Still seem to be growing though and they really are beautiful plants...

1793820856609.png
1793820891859.png

I think the soil mixed i used to pot on the clones was a little hot but they seem to have bounced back without too much issue...

1793821035314.png

Currently on day 39 and still on 4ml Bloom but the PK has been upped to 2ml then will start to tail off from next week.

Think that is about it for this update, I'll leave you with a overview of the jungle...

1793821270560.png

Until next time!!
