Z7_seeds_2.jpg

2012-01-24_22_55_28.jpg

I recieved the seeds in the mail on the 19th of January. I would like to express my appreciation in regards to all the help I recieved from Simone while trying to aquire the seeds. And say thanks to MNS for getting them to me way sooner than was expected. MNS waited longer for me to pay for them than I had to wait to recieve them, after I did pay. So many thanks.

I put all ten in water to soak then transferred to a papertowel after 24 hours. A day after being placed in the wet towel, 9/10 opened. I planted all of them into 4 in cups that are sitting in a tray so I can water from the bottom. Only thing I didnt do was dome them. I recommend it as half the seed pods did not want to shed. 100% humidity would have helped me avoid a couple issues that I will explain shortly.

As you see they all sprouted. Pheno A and H need some time though. I will include them when they no longer need their dome on them. The problems you see are because of lack of humidity(it was 60%). Created problems when shedding the pods. 10/10 still and another lesson resulting from experience.

Getting them tested

I forgot to mention, all the phenos will be tested at Green Leaf Labs in Oregon. Ive already emailed them with some questions and they responded back very fast. Also offered a tour of the facility. Oregon Green Free provides testing thru one of its members. An educated individual with a serious setup. Very open with his methods, so any specific questions could more than likely be answered. I have had multiple strains tested by him and he does all the testing for their contests. So, I will have two sets of test results.

Some other things, soil mix is Happy Frog, worm castings and mexican bat guano. Not a ton of guano, just a 1/4 cup in a 3 gal mix. They are under my T5s and in 4 in cups, sitting in a catch tray so I can water from the bottom. Right now photoperiod is 24 hrs of light. In a week or two, I will put them under a 1000 watt MH and on an 18/6.

Also, my start date and progress. I put them in water on the 21st and planted on the 23rd. Phenos H and C sprouted on the 28th and the rest on the 29th. Except for J, the only seed not to open before planting, which came up in the early morning on the 31st. I plan to flower the clones and keep the seed as mothers. That is, all that test well.

Quick update- phenos A and H have been discarded. They werent going to make it. The other 8 phenos have been under a 1000 watt MH since yesterday. Starting to be able to distinguish some probable indica dominant phenos(B,D,G and maybe C) The others look like a mix of sativa leaning and some close to 50/50. The tallest pheno's are D and G at about 2-1/4in. The shortest is C at about an inch. Here is some pics.

Looking great TonyG.

Lovely photo journal so far. Looking forward to the next couple of months.

Take care,

CM

I transplanted all the phenos into 1/2 gal containers last night. The mix is Haopy Frog with1/4 cup worm castings. I also treated all of the roots with ZHO root enhancer before planting. I put a couple pics of some roots, they are all doing very well. The shortest is pheno B at 4 inches, and the tallest is pheno G at 7. They will probably be showing preflowers in a couple weeks and need to be transplanted again. There final pot size will be 3 gals. I will take some cuttings and get them grown up to flower after their last transplanting. I want to flower two of each phenos and take them down a week apart from one another. But that is a decision I am still contemplating.

There seems to be a lot of indica traits going on here.

Quick update on the Z7's. All phenos have preflowered, none over 12 inches still. The heights range from 6-10 inches and every pheno has the exact same number of internodes going up the plant. 6 each. They are a little hot on the nitrogen, nothing to stress though. The toxicity actually is from the Organocide I use for maintenance sprays. Its basically edible fish oil. I havent seen it not green a plant up immediately. I had another plant in the room that needed treated, so I tested it on the Z7's to see if it would do any harm. Ive considered foliar spraying with worm tea. I had great results in the past and as great as the Organocide is, its overkill for maintenance spraying. Im going to top all the phenos in a few days and take cuttings as soon as some branches grow out a bit more.
Pictures, Droopiness seen is because some were thirsty

Looking good! Am following this thread too. Looking forward to more people growing out CBD strains and the new discussion that will result from more people involved in this new frontier. :)

Hi TonyG,
Everything is looking really nice man. keep it up! If they are anything like mine they like their food!

Cheers,
Sensi

They also drink water like there is no tomorrow. Im going to transplant tonight and post pics. Days away from taking clones. Your garden is looking good bro! Peace

Transplanted all the Z7's into 1 gal grow bags last night, and topped all of them on 3/3. They all took to being topped very well. Actually has seemed to increase growth rate. I definitely can take clones now, but I am still going to wait another day or two. Every plants roots were just as the couple examples I posted. No wonder I had to water twice a day:) There will only be one more transplant, this is actually uncommon for me to upgrade pot sizes this gradually. Caught a couple whiffs of mint and wildberries from a couple phenos while transplanting. First time Ive smelled berries like that, it was a very pleasent aroma. The soil mix was pretty basic, so Im going to make a batch if mexican guano tea in about a week for feedings.
Peace

The "wildberry" smelling ones are the CBD rich phenos, from my observation.

I referred to the smells of the two phenos as both being connoisseur smells...definitely obvious the quality of the parentage. Both phenos (I've narrowed down to 1 mom of each pheno) are keepers for me. I ditched a GHS Exo Cheese to make room, as I have limited space and the Z7 are superior IMO.

I wanted to show some pics before I topped them again. After I took pictures, I topped each plants two tallest branches below their third internode. While I did this, I also tried to get a scent for each one. Phenos B and E smell like a mix of watermelon and honydew. Definitely leaning towards a sweet melon scent. Phenos C and D smell like wildberries and red grapes. Phenos G, I and J smell like orange peels, with pheno I having a mint smell along with it. Pheno F smelled like you are peeling an orange. Smells of orange citrus and its orange peel. I also smelled a faint "baby shit" scent from phenos G, I and J.
They way I tested it was by crushing the tops I cut off and smelling them.

I have been feeding them mexican bat tea for a couple days now and OniusOniusOnius hit it spot on. They havent slowed down a bit.

The orange peel smell is pretty incredible, eh? Once dried and cured, some of the strong orange mellows out, but is still there. I ended up selecting my THC-dominant mother plant based upon strength of the orange peel smell, as it seems to correspond to strength of the pheno and potency.

The orangey ones were the high THC phenos in my garden. Potent and sleepy strain!

How are you brewing your guano tea, btw? Using a bubbler stone in a cooler?

I've been mixing mine up by hand, in gallon jugs, shaking them vigorously regularly thoughout a 24 hr period. Have had good success, but its a very manual process...would love to streamline this a bit.
