Spice x SSH

I just recently harvested my first seed crop, with all kinds of crosses. I'll list the MALES: SSH, Mississippi Mud (JLP @icmag), and the FEMALES: SSH, Spice, Shit, Dreamweaver x Godbud (MOD), Orange Diesel (Verite @ icmag). I also f2'd Pine bud x G-13, but i digest....

This thread will focus on the Spice x SSH. The female was absolutely delicious smelling, and one of the prettiest plants that I've ever grown.

SSH: I started 4 seeds, with the plants looking relatively similar in veg, except 1 stunk of haze, and 1 stayed short. The short 1 turned out to be male. He was very branchy, and a little bit lighter green than the girls. I topped/fimmed the girls, and they still out grew him in overall height. He was skunky/floral for the first 3 weeks of flower. When the pollen started to trickle out, the haze machine started. STUNK of dry, inscense like haze. I spent as much time sniffing him as I did the girls lol. The leaves got that hazy look, and curled, and waved, and grew in funny #'s (2 leaves, 3 leaves with 2 long blades, etc. He took his time flowering, and was full blown at about 5-6 weeks. I have no space to keep males, so he came down. I crossed him with everything (Spice, Shit, SSH, Orange Diesel, MeT, Pakalolo) that I had in flower, but I am most looking forward to the Spice x SSH and Shit x SSH crosses

Spice: Was 1 of 3 that cracked out of the pack (Shanti hooked me up with the SSH as a replacement thanks again homes!). Grew nice balance sativa/indica, maybe a lil indica leaning. Dark green, semi fat leaves, purple leaf stems, heavy purple striping on the stem. Had an odor of skunk and funk from far away in veg. Rubbing the stems from veg through flower (and now as a re-vegged clone momma)gives you the distinct smell of burning rubber. Flowered after appx 30 days above dirt. Vegged under CFL's. Showed about 2-3 weeks after the flip. Topped 1 time just before flower to produce a nice little bush w/ 2 colas. Flowered under 2 x 125w envirolights in a 1/2 gal (2l) pot. FFOF with organic and soil fluffing goodies. Super sweet delicious indescribable good smell in flower. Touching the buds left resin ALL OVER your hand, and anything that your hand then touched, lol. Trichs were just about 50% amber @ 9 wks. Got hit with Miss Mud, SSH, pinebud x g-13 pollen. Tasted good, didn't really cure for smoke, but am running cuts of this mom now......

I have 7 of these 2 weeks above the ground now. I will be growing them organically (except for B-1 Red, and a p/k shot @3-4 wks) in soil. They are starting out in peat pots. I will update more when they are worth updating lol. The 2 in the plastic cups are a very afghan dom Shit x SSH. The 3 slightly older plants are Orange Diesel x Miss Mud. The older plant outside of the box is the momma that I re-vegged. Her cuts will run side by side the crosses. I plan on flipping them in 20-25 days. I figgured that this was the spot for this grow, as I will be running the Spice also.

It has been raining here for about a week so the seedlings have very little noticible growth. I have some rooted cuts of the Spice, so I will be flipping the seedlings next week, and the cuts the week after that. The seedlings are all purpling in the new growth, a trait that they share with mom. I've never seen/noticed this before. I'll get pix up 2moro

Got some pix off today. Funny, as I look back at the pic from last week, I can see a lil growth, but to me they look stuck lol. I will be repotting all of the peat pots and flipping 5 of the Spice x SSH. I have roots on 5 Spice cuts, and I have at least 5-10 behind it. I will try flowering these on different schedules (ie: 2wks veg, 3wk veg, etc..)to see where she is most productive. I will also be running a bunch of these outside. The Shit that I will be running (and the momma of the Shit x SSH) is the same as the re-veg Shit in the pic. I hooked a buddy of mine up with 20-30 cuts today, and probably could have cut 10 more. Re-vegges and flouro's are a great combo for clone mommas, as these cuts came off of 2 plants, neither taller than 10" from the top of the pots.

We've had some sun this week, and the plants have responded. I repotted (with the peat pots...ugh I hate those things....every time I grow anything in em, I swear em off) [4] into 2l pots, [2] into 4 x 4 pots, and 1 into a small coffee can. I will be shading them beginning 2moro night until Monday morning to speed up the sexing process. I will probably only flip the largest 5. 1 is small enough to be considered a runt lol. It is still quite healthy though. The plants have slight differences at this point, with 1 plant looking mostly like dad (lighter, taller, more sativa), and 1 plant looking exactly like I remember mom. The rest are quite close to each other, and look a bit more like the Spice (mom). I won't be keeping any males, unless I get a total stand out, then I may do a bx to mom.

The females will be flowered in 2 gallon grow bags. I am trying coco for the first time, and couldn't leave dirt out all together, so I mixed up a nice big organic batch using botanicare coco, EWC, Guanos, kelp, crabshell, dolomite, plant success, GH rare earth + GH diamond black, (<10%)fox farms light warrior, lil perlite, lil vermiculite. I haven't seen coco used this way, so I figgured why not? Here we are about 30-35 days above the soil, veggin outside @ about 40deg N. The 2 smallest ones in the plastic cups are Shit x SSH. I threw all the rest of these seeds (appx 80-100) into my garden, as I noticed some mold growing in the bag I was keeping them in. LET YOUR SEEDS/SEEDED BUD DRY THE FUCK OUT!!! Sorry for yelling, but I feel better now, as I lost seeds and bud by rushing things. The seeds seem to almost double the dry time needed. I will force any plants that do come up (if any come up lol). The 5 largest Spice x SSH (4 in the white pots, and the 1 in the top right in the coffee can) will go dark tonite, and I'll take the lid off Sunday night. The smaller 2 and the shit SSH will be forced the end of next wk when I force the Spice clones. I will get more/better pix up as things progress, I promise

Another week of rain.....The next few days should be lotsa sun though. The plants seem to either be tall and stretchy, or center cola dom. There is little branching going on, and I topped/fimmed 2 of them. I flipped the biggest 6 last weekend, so by the next update, I should have sexed at least a few of them. I haven't grown any plants on a deck or my own garden before, so I am not too familiar with the growth paterns - "Are they stretchy, or vigorous???". I ended up with 3 for 3 OD x MM females, and they went into the coco mix on Sun/Mon. So far, so good. No big shock or def's or anything.


The plants in the white pots in the middle (4 o'clock and 8 o'clock) are the 1's topped.

We have been getting nice sun, and the crosses are growin quickly. I am sexing them at appx 10-11 hrs light. I had to throw the Spice momma into 12/12. She started to flower outside under appx 14 hrs light. She had been through a lot. She was flowered, revegged, gave up clones, put outside, gave up clones....I was planning on putting her in the ground, but I want to keep an eye on her after the autoflower thing.

Those beans are as advertised, and the finished product is dankness. They are def. worth the $60us, and like with mr nice, you get 15 per pack. I grew 2 females, both could have been keepers. I picked the 1 I did for -

1. Orange kids vitamin smell
2. Looks like Diesel in a bag
3. goes 10 wks, but nice yielder
4. People love purple....

I won't be buying beans for a while, but I will be looking at verite's other strain 'Holy Grail' when I do.

Well, I do believe I have some ladies. I had to move the 2 largest (topped) plants inside before they sexed, due to their height. 1 showed yesterday I think. I moved the next 3 largest inside today, and 1 looks to have hairs. These babies are beasts. They grow like the SSH that I ran a few months back (same pack as daddy). 6 of the 7 are powerhouse plants, with 1 being smaller and delicate. This plant is very healthy, and looks to have the thinnest leaves, but is just hanging out, growing real slowly..... I'm calling them Super Spice for now, and sexing the lil 1 with my 2 Super Shits and some Flyin Dutchmen Aroura B. Just 1 pic for today, I'll get more when they all show.

Well, it has been absolutely beautiful here for a few days, and all of my super spice except the runt (so sexy.....) have been moved inside. I have 3 females, 2 unknown, 1 probably male (waitin for the hair....), and the unknown runt. I am on my way out to put my 2 biggest shits and my re-vegging dreamtime in the ground. I am shooting for ~3 lb from all 3 . Holes will be backfilled with yard compost/recycled soil. Compost pile has been getting same amount of love as the girls......

I am really impressed with the coco mix that I am using. Root growth is EXPLOSIVE. Definitely a bigger difference than anything that I have changed in my grow technique so far. Mostly coco and castings, but lots of other 'food' goodies.

We have 5 females and counting..... 5 of the 6 that have sexed have been female, with the sexy runt coming soon. I see growth that looks to be a female pre-flower, but no hairs yet. I transplanted her (I hope..) into a pot of compost, and if she is a girl, I'll be putting her outside (after cuts). I took 6 random cuts of the confirmed females to go outside, I didn't label or anything. This run is to get a feel for the seeds (uniformity, tendencies, etc..). If I like the smoke/grow, I'll do a "full" (20+ seeds) run later in the summa. I'll get the ladies in a lineup for y'all 2moro.


P.S. DON"T BE LAZY!!!! It's fukkin HOT in the northeast usa the last few days, and outdoor plants are THIRSTY!!. Remember - More water = More YIELD. I have to go out 2moro, gonna be 95+........

Got some pictures here. The 5 girls are still more uniform than I expected. I topped/fimmed 2 plants, and all of them got heavy trimming underneath once they showed sex. They still smell like mom mostly, but are growing much taller ;D . I have been sexing the super shits for almost 3 wks, and so far........ Oh well, they'll show when they are ready. They look almost identical to each other, and smell dank. I will be doing this cross again, as I lost all of the seeds.

The 5 girls and the couple of spices that I have going in flower are cranking along. Unfortunately, pics look a lot like last week, so I'll skip them for this week. I have a pic of the 'runt'. I have 2 cuts rooting, 1 of which I will sex. If it is a female, the seed plant will go out to the bush. I also ended up with 2 female Shit x SSH. I am running 1 through down below, and the other I will clone and put out. I have a couple of sexed seedplants to go out, and I want to keep them in the same area.

I just got back from putting out the Super Spice pictured above. While the cuts were/are rooting, the seed plant threw a few hairs. I had been sexing her for about 2 wks, then said fuck it, 2 wks later, she throws a hair.

Getting out to the spots are a pain in the ass, as I can't drive there. I live in a rural area, but am on top of a hill, and it is all rocky. Where there is water, the soil is better, but the trees choke out the sunlight. I have KILLER locations 4-5 miles from my house, but again, I can't drive to them. Even driving to drop the plants off is out for me. I am near the top of the hill, so going out isn't so bad, but it's about 7-800 vertical feet from the spots to my house, so coming back is a bitch. I had yet to take the trip on foot, but I am glad that I did. I found places for about 6 clones (safely) just on the walk down the hill. It was getting too dark to get to my main spots, so I put this girl in a back up spot. Full sun from sunrise until about 2-3 pm. I don't know if she will finish on time where I am, so I picked a spot with afternoon shade to try to speed her up a week or so. She appears to have the most haze influence out of the crosses that I made, so I hope that she finishes before Nov.

Shipping container. Also had a big coffee can of compost, 12oz cup of espoma, 12 oz cup of diatomaceous earth, spade, scissors and a camera in there.

I took a few cuts when the girls went into flower, and I will be running them outside as well. They are rooted now, but still tiny.

The girls down below are humming along, and seem to be throwing more than usual resin earlier than usual. 3+ wks, and some of the plants (probably the 1's older by a few days) have a nice coating of resin already. They are starting to get a 'flower' smell. They smell early in flower very similar to the Spice mom when she is late in flower. Super sweet, almost artifical. If this smell combines with the haze factory that was dad, I will have a serious winner. I would smoke it just to be able to leave the room, and come back in to smell. As a bonus, I think that this will be some seriously strong herb too.

As a side note......
I am coming up the hill with one of my man's best friends, and the place that I was going to stop at for a 99cent Arizona can is closed. Ok, I'll go to the pizza place, only 50 cents more for a drink...I told sparky to sit outside the pizza place while I went in to get a drink. This adorable little girl starts begging her mom if she can go pet the doggie. Mom is a smokin hot pizza counter girl. So I assure them that sparky won't bite, and he is good with kids, blah, blah, blah, and princess starts to pet him. So I chat up mom for a while, scanning the whole time. No ring, good. No 'nameplate necklace'. good. No gawdy "bought by a guy to impress you" jewelery, good. Sexy ass piercing, VERY GOOD. Any way, I bullshitted with her for about 30 minutes standing outside her pizza place. I was GRIMEY. Just walked 6-7 miles, Stinking, hat almost soaked in sweat, legs all scratched up and bleedin. I am a grower, I shave now and then, I cut my own hair, I am generally out of the 'pickup' game. I am a grower, I am tan, fit, and relaxed. Women are so shallow. I will be makin her squeal before the chop.....

Today is 4 weeks since 1st flowers (probably 6-7 weeks 12/12). I lined the girls up from most sativa leaning (left, "A") to most indica leaning (right, "E"). I am no botanist, but I based my judgement on: 1. Leaf shape 2. Flower structure 3. Flower development. I haven't grown the Spice enough to 'know' her, and that male was only alive a few months...... So, I figured rather than try to guess (now) as to which is more Spice or more SSH dominant, I'd just go indica/sativa. "A" is definetly more sativa leaning, "B" is the only other 1 in a white pot, "C" is the only topped/fimmed plant in the bags, and "E" is either the furthest along, or the most like mom (quicker n thicker) They are VERY close. If they were all growing in the same size container, and were untopped, I would have a hard time identifying most of them. 1 of them, I don't remember which, is taking on a nice lime smell.
