Grew it indoors found it really interesting nice smoke had very old school smells going on in flower i had not smelt in decades only thing i didnt expect was its lack of stretch that got me of gard if i new id of left it veg longer nice line tho.

In the 80s a mate went to the dam believe he met you Nev and got Early pearl Durban and a few more seed lines.

I grew the early pear and Durban the thing i rember mostly was how uniform these to were the eraly pear grew into spear like plants one main massive flower and was very fast had a clean high to not over powerful but a nice day smoke.

I x it to the bourbon poison and gave most of the seeds to friends who grew them out doors they grew massive and very resiny mates still tell me how much they loved that x me i was growing sativas for personal.

A new 21st Century Haze maybe? (the other one is getting a bit old now) Or do you think that isn't possible until prohibition ends and real plant numbers can be searched through again?

I've not seen it anywhere for sale...other than at Sensi seeds...and all i hear about those are generally poor results....?

Personally i did EPx NL5...then inbred it for years...was a great hybrid for the first 5-8 years...started burning out after that...but i couldnt get the pure(old) lines again to recreate it and keep working with it.

really..its tough to find things that fit my season , june 1-sept. 20ish that performed like those plants did... and truly theres a TON of us out here in the Northern US/Southern Canada with the same cursed season looking for another line of winners like those plants were.

I was fortunate to smoke some really wicked Thai Stick around 76-77 Pataya Beach
cant remember exactly.
the herb was dark chocolate brown ,like Coco powder. cant remember the taste or aroma,but the effect was extraordinary.
it made me feel I was levitating about 6 inches off the ground and when I walked ,it was as if I just floated weightless across the room...
my face was a :D
even then it was $20 a stick...state side ,pricey for the seventies...
Mexican was $10 a lid
Columbia red bud was $35 a lid
for you kids a Lid was a weighed oz.
Im afraid the old strains Like Panama Red,Columbia Gold / Red
have been replaced by hybrids by the cartels for profit,not knowing that most of the Hybrids were developed thru these old Farmed Strains...I feel very few exist today,as I have not seen a good Mexican Crop since the mid 1990's and I see them everyday.
I think we all need to stop making Hybrids x Hybrids and do a few years devoted to a Strong Acclimated Drug strain of Seed Crops...
I personally am on that track this season...and since all is not lost in a seeded crop,since the best Hash in the world comes from seeded crops...
so I'll be smokeing some dry sieve this fall as I clean my pure seeds...

I'd like to ask you, is there any particular strain you hold near and dear to your heart above all the rest? Any special plant in your eyes? Seriously, your life story is an inspiration to MANY MANY people, and without your dedication and hard work some of the most valuable strains ever known could have been lost forever! I'd just like to know, what type of plant does it take to get the man who's seen it all get excited?
 
Well Ouchie, I kind of gave the game away, when I called it Nevil's Haze. It's the only thing I ever gave my name to, not out of vanity, but so you would know. I'd like to resurrect some of the 15 year old F1 N.H. we have and put to a super Thai (if I can find one). The phrase Bloodline of the Holy Grail comes to mind, but it's already taken. Bring me your virgins.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the reply, good luck with your hunt for that Thai plant you're looking for. I wish I had the space and time to do a run of Nevil's Haze, maybe one day! Gahh I was placing an order today, and you're making it really hard not to put Nevil's Haze on that list. If you're not too busy, what would be the faster finisher between Nevil's Haze and Super Silver Haze? Does it just depends on the luck of the draw and the phenotypes I get, or does one clearly finish faster than the other? Sorry for such rookie questions, especially to Nevil himself, but this information will serve invaluable to the next few years of my life. I plan to spend quite some time babying your creations ;)
 
well, Nev, you're welcome to my Thai seeds (a bag labelled 'Red String' from a friend of a friend, etc...) apparently real Thai but I never grew any out yet. As far as my virgins go - you can't have them. I keep them locked in my basement and force them to water the plants for a piece of cracker and a glass of water per day...they are all Thai, too...

Is the Nev's/Haze X Mango/Haze worth a go? or just go straight for Nev's Haze?
and which is better - Super Silver Haze or Mango Haze?

(actually I've smoked all 4 but it's good to hear your opinion..)

Dope is better today. Sorry, that's my view. All this misty-eyed nostalgia...just look at what Shanti has on his catalogue now. Thai was THAT good because it was laced with naughtier things...and I've smoked some darstadly colombian/mexican cross recently. Even punk 17 year olds have hydroponic systems in their houses these days!!!
It's just the way memory works. Everything seemed better then... but it isn't true. First time I smoked NL5/Haze it blew my mind...why? there was very little as good out there then. These days it's not the same....Kali Mist and The Real McCoy (to name just 2 off the top of my head) are top top sativas and Nev and Shanti's stuff is even better. There's loads of good stuff out there.

one of the best ways to preserve Cannabis is to put it into "many hands". in my mind Nevil, you have done more ethnobotanically for for Cannabis than anyone

"power to the people" first then big Pharma and business can can exploit our plant it however appropriate.

Hiya Grover the reason why some of today's cannabis is good is people like Shanti Neville and so on used good examples of old cannabis bit like the chicken and the egg what came first well to have good cannabis today you needed good cannabis of yesterday to breed from mate.

Thia veryed a bit a lot of it was good but some was just very very strong we got Thia stick and Buddha and i did see and smoke opinionated Thia stick a few times but that was very early 80s and not common i only saw it a few times as did i see opinionated hash.

The quality of imported Thia went down hill very fast from say the mid 80s and went to complete shit by say 87 88 the last time i saw it or had heard of it come in yet at that time all the good Thia was being grown here and i would say in small grows of personal grows of people that collected genetics before it went to shit from the imported lots after all that was ow seed banks back then.

I'm sure I'll be corrected as this is just here'say but wasn't the decline in Thai quality something to do with Thai laws? I heard the death penalty was imposed for certain drug crimes (including marijuana) and the people just stopped dealing it and therefore, growing it...

hiya mate well i don't know the real reasons behind the decline of quality but suspect it was linked to the opium eradication program by the US and Australian and Thia governments.


We would get the in house grown hit the market then we would see the Thia come in after the Thia would start to dry up the hash would flood the market then there would be a short time were other things would hit and it would repeat but we got lots of imported mj here and i finally read why apparently at the time the main players in the world market were the US and Australians ships would come here from given points then be given clean paper work saying its point of origin was Australia not Columbia or Thailand or Afghanistan and so on then sent to the us and so on.

The market here was also very large and also supplied the us market from reading there was a group from Australia that went into Thailand and got the war lord to grow for them and they would import it in agine and then export it to other country's it was big money and it was run by crime family s and police and other authoritys.

But my belief is the eradication programs that coursed it you can still find cannabis in Asia but its nothing like it was once.

great to hear that you'd like to explore new haze lines, a special Thai crossed to your NH sounds interesting to say the least. by the way I think Shanti may have some Mullum Madness seeds do you think anything worthwhile might come up from a NH or pure Haze crossing with MM?

That to the side nice to see a REAL breeder come back & fingers crossed your self & shanti Can take on these flavour of the month hacks with some fresh old skool gear no more Diesel crosses or Chem or bloody C99 i'm sick to death of these shitty plants being smashed to every thing out there in the intrest of the $$$$..

ps... I agree with hempy Haze x hawai......you need to make that happen if you can.
 
The last Thai stick I smoked was in 1998 or 1999 (in Wales). I have to say it remains one of the best smokes I have ever had.
 
I'd done a couple of Hawaiian Haze crosses. One was with a Hawaiian from Roger in N.Y. A bit of Indica in that one, huge yields.
The other was with a small seeded piney sweet Hawaiian Sativa. This was a true connoisseurs variety but few wanted to bother with it. J. in Breda really liked it and this guy had taste. Maybe Y.Sam has heard of it.

The Thai sticks in the 70's was the closest to haze that I've come across. Hempy's looks like it has promise as a cross with the Haze. I think that Australia will still have some pure lines going back to the good stuff. So tell us about Mullumbimby Madness boys!
