I can tell you this, I've made Skunk crosses both ways and found little difference.
N.

That's interesting. Sorry for the newbie question, but....Did you find and use a bunch of different males from the skunk seeds you were using? I'd think there would be at least a little variation, but I'm just speculating.

I'd like to see the good side of Tom.
N.
Would you like to see some? The good side may be a problem though. I have 9 or 10 growing now. I can take pics this week or weekend and post. One thing though. I've had a very hard time growing them. I'm just, just barely now getting to understand what they need. Maybe. The phenos are varied. Odd they seem to be in pairs. Some have purple on the stems and have bigger leaves. Some are skinny Thaish looking and two have little bitty leaves. They look the worst. I may be killing them. They've been under a HPS. I have a hypothesis that some plants need a bluer light or they become unhealthy (could also be UV). Of course everyone laughed but when I put some Ducksfoot I have under a blue compact fluorescents they immediately got better. Before they were turning yellow and one died. I think indoor weed has been breed to HPS lights but certain strains haven't. So I hung a Ceramic Metal Halide yesterday and I'm going to put my Ducks and Hazes under it and see what happens.
You people have given me quite a bit of anxiety about actually smoking the stuff when it finishes.

I'll have to re-read that thread, but I don't remember Hazy Lady saying the females didn't matter.

She never said females didn't matter.

I expressed my dislike for the line because a majority of the plants were lacking in flavor and effect. I only found one plant out of the lot that was worth a second look, but ultimately it just wasn't quite there. Hazy argued that sometimes the females can be lacking, but the line shouldn't be disregarded because the males may hold the key. She supported her position by showing a beautiful male that was found in her packs. I, on the other hand, culled all of mine upon sexing rather than utilizing them.

She said I didn't give the line a fair shake. I disagree because I bought the beans to find something electric in effect like I usually come across in a well bred Haze dominant offering. I had no intention from the beginning to keep the males or make seeds with them. My results were poor but I learned that for my own circumstances I would rather crack a pack or two of beans and have the task of deciding which plants have to go rather than having to pop a larger number hoping that at least something somewhat worthwhile shows up.

I find it od that any one can grow out a Mr nice co pack of a haze hybrid and not find something outstanding in a pack of seed.

Well... I think what we're all missing here is that in Sam The Skunkmans collection at Seedsman it looks like he crossed DNA's Sleestack to Skunk #1. Can we call this a MILESTONE in cannabis achievement?! haha

Anyway I have both Tom Hill's Haze, Seedsman Haze, Nevil's Haze and an unconfirmed selection of 2 diff versions of the NYC Haze, and Flying Dutchman's Original Haze x NYC Tangerine Haze all running at the moment so when flower time comes I'll be taking pictures so we can see the many wonders of the plants that are labelled "Haze". Keep your fingers crossed for me that something comes out worth of keeping, I'm pretty confident int he Nevil's Haze, but the rest I have questions about. I also have the Seedsman haze mix, so perhaps that's something to throw in the mix.

Sleestack x SKunk #1... he's jumping in on DNA's "Skunk Train" - TOOT TOOT!

This thread makes me want to take a very long vacation, somewhere warm and with lots of flowers.

I never knew Nev was such a comedian, eh...

Take care folks

Nevil

thanks for the reply

experience is the best eacher soo i was curious as too your insight

matt

love ya style brother haze for days

i look forward to your comparison grow,if i had the opportunity i would have done this long ago

im very interested to see how your NYC haze compares ,IME ive grown NH 2 diff phenos and sk/hz 2 diff phenos .ive had afriend who had no knowledge try to grow nyc haze bagseed of course and the vigor of the nyc haze was amazing when comparing .large wild lookin similar to those oldschool haze pics from bonk

that sleestack X skunk is cute lol but no surprise the boys n sam are friends ,i asked a while back if they could get some ohaze seed stock they said he never free them up

glad to have insights from all ends ,but lets be fair and not judge the breeders strains by their character,we should give our honest opinions but also the correct info for those who dont know better

SAMS said it first than nevil confirmed it OHAZE/pure haze is best for breeding .soo this tlk about tom hill haze not hav a keeper in every seed or pack is exspected .just as when breeding wild land race strains, its comes down to selection .it should be exspected with all the ohaze offerings seedman/tfd /OT ,now cross them an you will see the potential .i have high hopes in finding a pure CG keeper but i think it will need some selection

aswell as when growing these strains pure sativas/wild landraces.you will only see full potential in the right conditions such as the tropics.i wanted too see for myself what nevil haze would do outdoors in nyc around 45 lat ,although i knew the backround info before hand which we all should before growing a strain ,i was willing to take a chance i know it was not grown to full potential because of environment ,still i was blown away by the finished product which threw my window was ripened dvr aswell .soo ill continue to run NH outdoors

somthin ive pondered on is the fact most of the SAMS/sacred seeds/ CC haze hybrids use haze females ,another thought is since the haze bro's did not grow from clones and obviously did not keep a select male or female, they'd pollinate id gather each year what looked to be the best females

any thoughts on this ?

When Eddy Rekedder sold TFD a while back he sold his Skunk #1 breeding male to DNA. This is the male he used in all the TFD skunk hybrids - Thai-tanic, Swazi Safari, The Real McCoy, Pot of Gold etc.

DNA have been using it in a few crosses, their Lemon Skunk seeds are the Lemon Skunk female crossed to Eddy's skunk male, for instance.

I know that DNA and some others put money into setting up a seed production line down in Spain that was churning out seeds for a few companies, this is why some companies are selling the same breeds under different names. For instance, Soma's Kushadelic is LA Con x G13Haze, same thing as DNA's Connie Chung.

So I expect the Sleestack x Skunk came from Spain and was made using Eddy's male by the people making seeds for DNA and others. Seedsman probably bought a load of bulk stock and because it was half a Skunk male that Eddy grew from Sam's seeds they thought it was fine to put it in the Skunkman collection. They may well have asked Sam if this was okay first and he said 'sure, it's half my work' due to the skunk male in there.

DNA will be selling Sleestack x Skunk themselves I expect and it will cost 3-4x as much as the Seedsman one, same way that Seedsman have been selling the same genes as TFD for years but at much lower prices. For example, they had Hawaiian x Skunk (The Real McCoy), Swazi x Skunk (Swazi Safari), Hindu Kush x Skunk (Pot of Gold), Haze x Skunk (Fuma de Dios), South Indian x Skunk (Kerala Krush) and others.

Don't ya just wish all seed companies were as open and honest about their breeds as Nevil was and is? Would make things 100x easier for the end user to decide what to grow and have some faith he actually had what he wanted in the first place.

Dont you see to reason for this lie up in bolded.
How they can sell WW or SSH or NH if is naked truth presented to end user ?
Why would me or you like end user purchase Green House WW if you know what MNS BW is ?

Same fog about breeding and genetics are around many strains like CD or OG kush or or ...

"" wooohoooo I purchase mistery and magic beans ""

I am betting the Nev's is gonna be your favorite. After you junk most of the others, my advice is to buy a pack or two of La Nina.

If that is the case. shouldn't they have a disclaimer on the packs? Most people aren't breeders and they are buying seeds for smoke, ya know?

If what you are selling is only good for breeding, shouldn't you tell people? That is a lot of time and space invested to find out you have a bunch of garbage.

Edit - BH, I haven't run LN outdoors, but there were some phenos done in like 65 days - it may be something for you to look into for your area.

To see the best of a line like the haze tom offers , it has to be grown outdoors and in a climate that allows it to finish ,

im hearing bad results indoors and im not surprised really ,,,

i too released a sativa that performed poorly indoors ,, so think im in a position to know some just dont do it the man made way .. they like nature , sun , wind , rain and the tropics if they can get it ..

this is why most make hybrids of the unruley sativas , in the hope it can be controlled indoors and still have a sativa high ,, ..

Ill try get some seeds from tom and do an outdoor grow with them , to show what i know already ,, they are sativa , they dont like indoors much ...
make a hybrid or buy one and youll see quite a difference ...

With all due respect guys if a plant if its good it will be good indoors or out no difference in potency i have tested this by running the same clones of different plants indoors and out doors the differences i saw was indoors were more resiny and tasted sweeter were the out door flowers had less resin and had a earthy taste and well yield from out doors were larger thats it potency and affect was the same.

If the plants indoors are not grown correctly well there not going to reach there full potential are they or if there harvested to early even not curing correctly can have a huge impact on the end results to say that out doors is not as good as in well sorry i dont by that for one bit.

Id have to differ on your angle there hempy ..
remember where i live ..
Strains like thai and closer equatorial strains absolutely will not perform as well indoors as they will in the tropics where they are naturally home too .
why do you think they were the best? , genetics and the environment , climate.
to get the best from those genetics you need the right environment , climate, ..

there is no arguement to have about it , it is a fact and been proven many times over ..

im sure you remember what the thai we used to get looked like , vs what is grown indoors or in a temperate outdoor setting , it doesnt compare hempy.

there is no chance you can grow a tropical sativa with no indica in it the same or better indoors than i can where i live , id stake my reputation on it .

Mate indoor growing is controlled environments do you understand what that means ? It means you the grower can basically mimic set conditions and that is a huge plus why it has taken off the past decades not only for cannabis growing but for many Ag and plant research and or commercial production.

I grew thias out doors for years you forget i was an out door grower to and well sorry this indoors dont produce as good is not cutting it you ethir have a good cannabis strain or its not back to basics mate its all in the genetics and you dont need to live in the tropics to grow Thias there are tempret erase with in Thailand to look it up.

Thia plant grown indoors not fully mature yet now show me a Thia plant you have grown out and and rember if i grew this out doors it would be a lot larger as i sed difference is indoors they yield less potency and affect stays the same if people are not seeing this then they need to grow there sativas a bitter better and not harvest them to early to start with.

Pictures to lie people do.

>>. comeon hempy , i dont think theres any need to school me on growing and environments , ive got all that down ...
but i will say , you cannot yet duplicate a tropical environment indoors , thats why you have trouble with your sativas and they grow spindly flowers rather than full robust nuggets ,
i notice you having problems even with nevils haze which is only three quarters sativa , and you say your mimicing the tropics ,, i dont think so ..
and dont patronise me hempy , im not a beginner ..

Hempy mate, you are a rare indoor sativa grower who can extract every drop of goodness out of a strain, and so it is indeed difficult to disagree when you post such fine pics, but if I delve into my intuitive awareness (not science pardon me) I'd have to agree with Donald on this one. The broad spectrum of light that emanates from the Sun, simply can't be imitated by man made technology at this stage in our industrial evolution. I've no doubt this is an unpopular idea considering how many of us here have to rely on that technology, but many top breeders including SB allude to the difficulty of reproducing the correct environment indoors, to cultivate equatorial sativas.

But Donald I had this argument with Tom over at IC and he agreed with Hempy:) So you see we're not all faithful to a particular party line, which is a refreshing change.:D

Absolutely i concur mr bushweed ,,
if we all agreed things would be a bit boring and we would prolly be all a bunch of pyshophants .
i think the guy who manages to imitate the outdoor tropical environment indoors will be very successful ..
a crappy , mostly cloudy day here in the tropics , but still a uv in the 15 , considered extreme ,, try duplicating that indoors ...

Im amazed tom had that opinion bushy , ill have to take a look see , cause its not right ,
indoors currently is no match for a tropical climate , particularly where equatorial sativas are concerned ,,
id love that to change so we can all grow those tropical beasts ,
it is afterall the reason most grow hybrids indoors ,
a more manageable product that one can get the best from in the enviroment available ...

I'd like to see the good side of Tom.
N.

I think he's actually a good guy, who just happened to vote for George Bush the first time around, and then for some deep seeded psychological reason, can't admit that he was wrong for doing so.:D

No. Actually I'm sure he didn't vote for Bush, but for some reason he has to stand up for Uncle Sam you know?:D

Sounds like he's got a good haze hybrid though:)

Donald no but it seams you and others like to school me well pictures dont lie my ones speech volumes look at the thia plant looks healthy to me i am sure to many others also.

Well you can duplicate tropical environments many gardens around the world are testament to just that botanic plants only found in given tropical areas thriving and on display for people to go enjoy them.

A few more pics for you Donald NH flower as thick as my arm and larger ones out of vue huge Mango Haze flowers and a SSH plant all had more to go common mate your kiding your self if you think there spindly.

Im not a newbie ether and with all due respect twice i posted regarding the NH they would not sex by week 12 watch the clones sex by week 7 or 8 and watch how big and soled the flowers get.
