Hi Green Machine !

nice to see you here again man , hope you're doing well :)

I just love macros..so got myself a new 300mm bellows today , and I mounted a reversed 50mm macro lens .

Doing very well thank you......The macros are impressive, your trichome forest is nice and dense  We non-canon users don't have fancy macro lenses available to us like the MP-E, so we have to make due with the next best thing, a bellows......having no metering sucks but the trade off for high magnification shots is well worth it......do they make an extension for your brand of bellows?

thank you sir for your kind words  It's even better we are not canon user and tempted with the mp-e cause we have to look for new ( and better ;) ) solutions .... So I am buying a new leica photar lens 12.5mm ( 25x magnification with the 300mm bellows yummy ) . Manual is even better because we need the correct exposures everytime ! We can't leave these choices up to a dumb small chip inside the camera lol

Yeah there are lots of brands that produce bellows for my mount . Thank god , my macro setup is still much cheaper than a Mp-e ! I remember u posting many photos , what happened c'mon man post a couple ssh trich shots with that coolpix .. ohh and those stacked bubblehash cakes/pies lol

have fun and really nice to see u again :)

hey herb and resinbud thanx for dropping by guys . The camera costs about 300-400usd , I also have a bellows which costs like 30-50usd and a macro lens 50mm which costs about 350usd , but u can substitute with a much cheaper lens if you want and can find a good one .

resinbud,

thank you for the nice words man , its good to hear you enjoy the grow report and photos. The trich macros are quite fun too :)

I don't mind not being a canon user at all but it would be nice to have a piece of glass that went 1-5x mag in such a small hand held package. That lecia sure is a pricey lens I hope you are getting a good deal on it. I have a 20mm that goes 20x with my bellows, its a real pain at getting good shots at that magnification tho....... I guess I am too spoiled from the spot on metering of my new body, manual does force us to get the proper exposure but it definitely slows me down having recalibrate exposure for each change in the shot...... Where is the 1-50x 50mm 1.4f lens I've been dreaming about LOL

You are the King of the budget macros man hehe..... Yeah those MP-E's don't come cheap, isn't that lecia photar more than 2x the price tho??......I rarely post pics anymore, my coolpix hasn't seen action since OG went down LOL,.... besides wouldn't want to pollute your fine thread with non MangoHaze images

The live trichome pics are really cool.....they seem more individual, like snowflakes, compared to dried trichomes...... I like how you can see the reflections of other trics in that last pic, nice1 Leet

Why not a 1-50x .. 18-300mm zoom ! Ha ha

You are the King of the budget macros man hehe..... Yeah those MP-E's don't come cheap, isn't that lecia photar more than 2x the price tho??......
hehe lol Yeah they are too expensive for what they offer but sure are handy and great for 1-4X. I believe its not the cost of the equipment that makes someone good at macrophotography..its all in lots of practice and patience . The photar costs around 200-400usd for a used lens. Its expensive I think but its great optics.Even though its quite old lens (its from the 70s or 80s) its one of the best macro lenses ever made ..thats why its still so pricey after 20-30 years from production date ..so I was thinking to get it and sell it after I 've enjoyed it with the MangoHaze! Heres a shot with a cheap 25mm lens on 250mm bellows:

mango_trich_mango1.jpg

By the way the reason I said earlier that macrophotography is all about practice and not about flashy pricey equipment , is that you can get a real cheap cine lens 16mm and a bellows and shoot trich closeups for less than 200usd and get great results . What is important to get good macro is not a good cam or an expensive macro lens but field practice shooting and by getting familiar with the equipment , that is bellows , lenses and camera you get to use them to their full potential. I believe that even with a 6-10Mp cheap cam and such a macro setup you can get excellent trichome shots. But like I said its all in practice and how much time you put to it. In reality only 1 in 50 shots is really descent at that high magnifications, when you shoot with 15-25x magnification and get a ~50micron trichome to fill the frame it really becomes impossible to work with bare hands and do micro-movements/adjustments like focusing and framing the trichome subject you want. Its so damn tiny!..even the slightest vibration can ruin a shot. So basically you ..shot and miss..and res-hoot until you get enough to make sure you have a good one to keep. To make things worst depth of field at these magnifications is a real problem, at 20x with a 12-25mm macro lens the depth of field becomes so swallow that not even a single trich is in focus at f-stop < 4 ..at f=2.8 not even the half trichome's head/sphere is in focus from back to front..

..but there is the best to solution to this.. There are specialized software apps that can combine different images that different focus points into a single image with everything in focus.Using different shots taken from the same position , and by focusing each time from closer > towards infinity) , then these images are processed by the software and are merged into a single image that has all trichomes in focus. Its basically keeping from every pic the sharp elements (areas in focus) and isolating them by masking them out ... and it does this for every pic and finaly outputs the result into a single pic. So its like shooting with f-128 but in reality you are using f-2.8 and shoot at many different focus point each time in order to get all shot elements from back to front in focus in the pics. The great thing is that you basically eliminate Depth of Field Blur 100%. Its totally sharp images like being shot with f-64 + !

I rarely post pics anymore, my coolpix hasn't seen action since OG went down LOL,.... besides wouldn't want to pollute your fine thread with non MangoHaze images
Hey man, you do need to get back to action! Get your cam and get down and dirty , covered in resin ! Your shots were always amazing, your macros are some of the best I 've seen ..but the plant and bud shots were not bad either from what I remember ;) It would be really nice if you could dig up some of your wonderful SSH pics to share with us :D SSH Master!

The live trichome pics are really cool.....they seem more individual, like snowflakes, compared to dried trichomes...... I like how you can see the reflections of other trics in that last pic, nice1 Leet
That photo was shot with 350mm extension (bellows+extension tubes) and a 25mm old cctv camera lens. Not the sharpest but descent for a 10usd lens.Cant wait to get the photar for some serious quality and clarity. Its funny you noticed it too , yes trichomes' reflections can be seen on the big trichomes' resin spheres!

Enough rambling.. ..pics:

This Mango Haze cola is growing airy long pointy flowers and is from the slowest phenos. It not a great yielder but smells reeeaallly hazy!

Good equipment is never a replacement for proper technique it does allow you to achieve slightly higher quality images but whats more important to me is the time I save shooting and PP. I see, when you meant new lens you didn't mean new in the literal sense, I was gonna say last time I was looking at the 12.5mm photar it was 2,500us, maybe that was a newer version tho? Buying used glass is the way to go, especially if you plan on selling it later, then its more like a cheap rental.

I've been there I know all about the bellows shake, pain in the ass lol......before with my old cam body I was getting about the same ratio of keepers 1-40, with this new cam its a whole different experience(liveview), now I'm getting a keeper in about every 1-15 shots.....thats where I'm loving the liveview on my 3" screen, really helps with the DOF framing......what I have more of a challange with is the working distance when your near 15x & above, your literally on top of your subject only a few mm away from the front of the lens,..... with a remote flash and no metering some trail and error is involved to find the correct exposure.

I'm actually into photography more now than ever before, unfortunately many people want my images for print these days(even tho I'm just a hobbiest like yourself),& for some reason it kind of takes away some of the fun of sharing pics.....I wish I still had all those pics from back in the day, I lost 95% of my pics from OG due to a harddrive failure

You will be amazed at what a good macro lens can do for bokeh and color rendition, really makes the trichs pop out at you.....Yeah your the only other person I've seen that gets close enough to get reflections on the trics like a mirror.

One bud close up , lots of clear and cloudy trichomes on most plants so I am going to chop in 7-10 days , let em amber up a bit

well since you asked L33t here are some "sister" trichomes to your MngHz

1st 3 were taken with 90mm macro, reversed on a bellows

Beautiful! Really great SSH macros , some of the best macros I 've ever seen! How many mm are the bellows? Really sharp pics and nice lighting, the dark background seems to be working nicely. Thank you for sharing :)

these ones with a 50mm macro, reversed on a bellows......I don't want to muck up your thread anymore of with my pics......but I will post a bunch more in that old macro thread when I have time:cool:

Very very nice GM!
Beautiful macros! Well done man , lovin the captured cell detail in the trich stalks!

Exactly my thinking! Its like you say a sort of lens rental , buying good quality optics is a good investment as great lenses doesn't lose much value over time and even old models are up to par with the best new macros out there .

Live view is great feature to have for macro at magnifications that high.I wish I had it in my cam! I will get myself a new cam in a few months, saving up atm , I will get one with Live view and more Mp as atm I am using a 6mpixel SLR cam.

Its a shame you lost all those nice pics, lots of great photographs with great subjects too ;) I know what you mean about copyrights etc..at least its good to see people enjoy extreme macrophotography , its really a different world when you get that close into microcosmos , and get portraits of these small resin spheres ..that are responsible for all the great highs :)

I know good bokeh is the key factor to get nice looking pics, my 50mm macro is great for f2.8 sharp pictures with beautiful soft bokeh . Thanx again for sharing these macros man , looking really nice. Keep up the good work!

l33t

Thanks for the compliments L33t, that means something coming from one of my fellow peers in macro photography........the bellows goes up to 438mm, I tend to stick around 300-375 tho for the best working distance......I'm really into using colored backgrounds , especially with my 90mm, the bokeh is amazing, everything comes out super creamy looking

Your doing a hell of a job for only having 6mp slr cam, can't wait to see those trics turn amber......its trippy looking, like a dark cloud of oil erupting inside the trichome head......keep up good work man, your almost there!!

Hello L33t,

Incredible skills as a grower & photographer man:eek: ,truly outstanding work,You've really brought the MangoHaze to light, dominated them ladies for real bro,

I've had to stop myself from posting, looking like a stalker, lol,

Excellent show

Macro work,no words,blows me away,great stuff,keep it up,

peace
