Aloha fellow Firewalkers!
Happy New Year! It has been 2 days since going into 5 gallon pots. So far 5 females have comes forward out of 10 Holy Grail plants. Lights were further reduced to 15 hrs. in an effort to coax any remaining females out of the undeclared bunch. The plants continue their transformation adding height and putting out new biomass. I like growing from seed. However, with existing clones, there is the ability to shorten one's grow time by bypassing some of the time required in germinating seeds. Of course, when embarking on a new adventure it begins at square one. It's quite the trick to time plants to show sex and up potting the females while still at a manageble size before the explosive growth that comes from their full-on flowering cycle. As I am not interested in cloning the males, I eliminate them through this process as soon as possible so I don't up pot them which saves soil and space. Typically taking 8-11 weeks in veg to show sex and to get them to produce decent clone material; lighting, pot size, nutrient blend, etc. all play a part. The problem is plants are ready to transplant in 6 weeks because of size. These are some of the disadvantages of growing inside with limited space considerations. As @Islandgrower mentioned, there is a short window to clone at the beginning of the flower cycle. If I can't accomplish cloning in the veg cycle, I try to clone as early as possible in the flower cycle as this type of clone does take longer to stabilize, having to revert back to veg. Hope I'm halfway coherent in explanation here as I have been puffing some Curandera (SD x MedMan) this morning.
While on the subject of sativa, the Back Door Man (NH x Doors) I grew recently is dynamite! I am already anticipating better in the Holy Grail. Doubling up on the Haze C can only result in more goodness and more euphoria. Looking for a space suit to go with this Holy Grail grow right now lol.
