Mr Asia ....

G`day Hempy
Here`s a bit bit more info re Mr Asia .

When TVNZ agreed to air a 25th-anniversary documentary, John Keir and I set off seeking to talk to all those names of long ago.

The two key players were, of course, dead.

Marty Johnstone, an Auckland menswear shop salesman, had started the Mr Asia group by importing Thai buddha sticks with the help of Singaporean ship’s steward “Chinese” Jack Choo.

Choo had simply tossed the bagged-up sticks overboard as his ship passed through the Rangitoto Channel. Johnstone, in a waiting boat, picked them up.

But Johnstone had teamed up with Clark, a petty thief and sometime police informant from Gisborne. Clark ruthlessly forced himself to the top of the syndicate, eventually ordering Johnstone’s murder when a Thailand drug deal went wrong.

Clark was convicted of killing Johnstone and later died in prison in England.

After a quarter of a century, we believed that people would talk – and many did. But the main villains wouldn’t talk on camera.

The dapper little “Diamond” Jim Shepherd, although built like a jockey, had ferociously held his own during more than 15 years in Sydney’s notorious Long Bay prison. Clark’s No 2 – who stepped in to run the drug ring while Clark faced charges in New Zealand – Shepherd said he had never realised how evil heroin was until he went inside for dealing. In prison he saw the addicts created by the Mr Asia gang and it seemed to play on his conscience.

“You can put all the drug problems in Australia today down to one man – Terry Clark,” Shepherd told us off-camera.

Shepherd also talked about Clark’s lust to kill, how he had become like the people he supplied heroin to – addicted. But his addiction was the thrill of murder.

I`m tracking down a story I read a while ago re Mr Asia and the Thai Stick ring .Was a 1st hand account from a Kiwi guy will post when located .

Thanks for sharin
Elmer Bud .

This is only a little from this book you can find it on line my advice is read it its long but explanes the Australian and US connections and all of it if cali thort they were it time they think agine.

Hi Hempy,
Nice find, very interesting information! I have heard many Californian's take a similar position that marijuana started and ended in California. I was recently speaking with a friend and mentioned cannabis was being grown on the East Coast of the United States long before California even became an official state in the union in fact.

Good to see some stuff about the good old Aussie MJ scene:D

Just thought I would put up some pics of the Hawaiian/G13 as it is now in full bloom and looking very Tasty. The breeder of this plant has done a excellent job and as Nevil has said has kept it very G13 dominant.
This is going to be a very good cross to use in the Grail for those indoor growers that want a early flowering Sat Dom strain.......cant wait for the Testing on this one:D

I've heard Hawaiians don't do well outside there original climate, especially indoors. Have you heard or noticed that occur in your area?

Thanks for thinking of us indoor guys. I think you need to put me on the list of testers for that one. LOL!

I agree good genetics are good genetics.

In dj's book he says the best hawaiin he has grown on the mainland or indoors were at best midgrade compared the same strain grown outdoors in Hawaii.

Dj probably was growing them in pac nw. A far cry from the sunny beaches of Hawaii or Oz. So I think it's safe to say climate or indoor to outdoor does make a difference.

I have not grown much outdoor but I can say that best indoor would not compare to the best outdoor.

I was more curious as to whether or not kanga, yourself or anyone noticed that. Knowing that kanga has travelled and collected a fair share of beans.

id reckin the closest youll get to the best samples will be in the climate/environment they are from ,,
(me and hempy differ on this , agree to keep it at that rather than continued debate that gets us no where)
thankfully kangas climate would be pretty similar to hawaii and doubt he will notice a downfall in potency etc with genetics from that region , should be much the same as if they were at home ...

ohh no worries hempy im not about to bother with hostile debate ,

im very cool with observations though ...

one thing i did notice with growing indoors with some sativa , they didnt reach their full potential , vs the outdoor climate i have ..
totally about genetics as you say ,,

just sometimes getting the very best out of them requires taking them to the place they are from ,,

nevil said he tossed an out of control sativa he grew indoors , only to find it had great attributes ,, just wasnt showing them indoors , go ahead and ask ..

I have found that some plants make the transition to indoors quite well and some don't. It is hard to judge which ones will do well and which won't, but I have noticed that plants that can survive on just a few hours of direct sunlight per day, tend to do better indoors, than plants which require lots of direct sunlight to finish properly.

Also, I have yet to find a plant that was bred for indoor cultivation which does not do ok outdoors.

Hi Wally ;)
How are you doing out there in duck land? Do you have any pictures of your indoor sativa grows to share with us? Good to see you made it out safe from the cyclone.

Cheers :)

Hi Donald,
I agree plants always seem to do better outdoors. In fact in my experience even indoor strains tend to do better outdoors.

I don't have too much experience with indoor strains(aside from 5hz and NL1), but the indoor strains I have personal experience with growing outdoors, which I can name offhand include: NL5hz, NL1, HOG, Blueberry, Trainwreck, Big Daddy Purple, Afrac, strawberry cough, to name a few... I can tell you these plants all kick ass outdoors, except for big daddy purple it was just ok, and had some mold issues. And Blueberry was a bit small and compact, but the outdoor version is much better than indoors. Without fail these varieties were actually more potent outdoors than indoors, even though they were all bred for indoor cultivation, although they might not have been as perfect looking. I have found that the bud is always more dense if it is grown outdoors, as apposed to the same cut grown indoors.

Hi Hempy,

22 off a single plant? Coming from you, I don't doubt it. But that still blows my mind.

I am stoked if I can get 4 or 5, and usually I get around 2 or 3.

Anyway I have noticed that sativas tend to mature from the bottom up indoors.
In fact there is a sativa dominant 5hz hybrid which is doing just that.

Do you have any insight as to why this is?

And aside from harvesting lower branches first, how can this knowledge help us if we are growing indoors?

hi mr jesse , still paddling away here man ..
On the sativas , yes i ll grab a few of a couple left that took my eye and are prolly worthy of sharing ...

Hempy , nothing wasted in succesfully growing sativas indoors , its an art , you know well , ive seen some amazing grows on the net , everyone gains from those , and even the folks not able to score some outdoor tropical buddah stick , can still get a taste of it .....
If i get anything this year i think is worthwhile to share with you hempy i certainly will ,
prolly make it a side project ,, a hempy worthy outdoor sativa ,
something he will say
"wow wally , now i know where your coming from , i feel like im 16 again taking my first toke ,," .. hehehe
thats what i wanna hear ...
