Sounds like you already have identified some excellent parentals, Panama Red x Oaxacan sounds like my cup of tea!

I'm intrigued by your Oaxacan as it sounds very different to the Oaxacan I have. Mine yields massive and smells like pine needles drizzled in gasoline, has some hermie problems. Nev described yours as fruity and extremely tasty but small buds. He also mentioned a very menthol/pine bud in the same bag and I stongly associate menthol/pine with Mexicans as I've had three different Mexican lines that had menthol/pine smells.

A very kind soul just gifted me two new Oaxacan types so I'm hoping to have some Oaxacans back in my garden soon, if I find anything worthy I'll be making seed to share.

Yes mate that is pretty much how she is. Plus never had hermies.
This one is a little lighter on the smell, but still very nice. This one produces good to average buds, the trouble was last year I had a lot of probs with the Mex due to bad positioning and wet feet, so hence the small buds.
There is some re testing to do on a couple of others because they also were very good, but in general all tested were pretty uniform, it was just the Mex 27 had that very good strong trippy happy high that is associated with this strain and it went longer with no ceiling.

It was funny as soon as Nev smelt that Panama his eyes lit up.....Yes I believe this is going to be a very tasty cross !

I think from what I've heard that your Oaxacan holds a lot of potential, I;m sure you fellas can do something good with it.

My eyes would have lit up if you'd handed me a Panama Red bud too, I love the spicy woodsy ness of my Colombian and I imagine the Panama has some similarities, the Colombian is my fave taste of any weed I can recall so I am sure I'd love the Panama, how does she taste?

I'm having no luck germing the old Panama Red seeds I have, sadly.

Bushweed, very cool pic of Nevil with the plants there :) Glad to see progress in the Grail project! I hope if/when he comes back to the forums, he has less BS to deal with...perhaps the invite-only subforum that was previously suggested would do. 'Nevil's Laboratory', anyone? :)

With Kanga's deep stash of genetics & expert growing abilities, combined with Nev's keen breeder instincts, the mind boggles when thinking of what you two will come up with down there...

Very interested to hear what Nevil thinks of the Madness & her relatives, now that they'll have a chance to get thoroughly acquainted. To me, it would be some strange combination of justice/irony/fate/etc. if my personal Grail (MM/OMS) turned out to me a major component of this Grail! :D

nice work kanga! the man who is one with the sativas is how i think of you! my experience with growing the mexis is limited, and mostly bag seed attempts, cause as a rule they take too damn long which is time i do not have. lol. i noted your comments on the flavor and aroma being on the light or soft side and my first thoughts are that i have been fooled by this many times with the mex varieties. ime, until they have been in the jars at least 3 months and maybe as long as six, the flavors and aromas have not really shown themselves. i have also noted substantial increases in potency? we have all heard this line before; how the cure brings magic to the deal. and for the most part this is often grossly overexaggerated imho. it mellows the product but certainly no magic. but the one exception i have found to the rule is mexican. jar time can add to that mexican, big time. lol. good luck. peace-biteme

I'm immensely pleased to hear that a selected Oaxacan will be part of the makeup. If there's a waiting list for this eventual hybrid, someone please tell me how to get my name on it now!

Bushy , this thread is the holy bloody grail ! Has Nev been using the grecian 2000? The old bastard looks like he hasnt got a grey hair ;-) Maybe smoking Sativas is the cure to premature greying . These bloody indica's Im smoking have left me as grey as Dame Ednas ballbag . I was discussing a theory with a couple of mates on Friday night . Indicas make you too lazy to work hard while Sats make you too stupid . One mate swore that he gets more aggro ( argumentative) on Sativa type smoke as well. I had a smoke on the weekend of some indoor started , outdoor finished NL5 - Blueberry x NL that I bred the seed from way back in 1996. My mate has grown literally thousands of these over the last 15 years . He doesnt clone but he always selects the most sativa looking buds as his personal . The buds are foxtails with huge calyxes and very little leaf .The plants are about 5 - 6 ft and are almost like auto flower strains . Even at the height of summer here at 29 degrees Lat these girls go straight into flower if given say 3 weeks on 24 hour photoperiod to start them off . I can see where some people say the Blueberry reminds them of certain skunk strains . Cheers Bushy , Moose . I spent the day at Belongil with my lady bodysurfing Bushy . Thats when Sativas come into their own in my humble opinion. When your whipping down the face of a 3 ft right hander or you need the energy to go into full bore paddle swim mode to catch a near perfect wave the heavy indicas dont compare to a good Sativa .;)

Time for Grail!

Right On Kanga and Nevil! Good to see You Guys are on the move! Shit wont happen unless We make it happen.

My Older Son and some of the Boys came by this morning for Corned beef hash and eggs, and plenty of Headband smoke. I have some samples of the unseeded buds of the sativas but they arent dry. My Sons Love good Sativas. The Sativa/Haze tent smells like the Tropics. Maui #2 is some badass Rope Haze. Its a standard seed. I hit it with 2 nevilles Haze Males and the Mango and Oaxacan/Paki/Durban/Oaxacan Male.

My Son was checking out the old Honeydew cut of Headband with the Oaxacan, Nev haze, Mango, and Purple Camo seeds poppin all over it. There will be something nice in there. Thats an 11 week headrush greenout weed. It can put You on the floor for a minute.

Both Sons said "pick through the tin and get some assorted seeds going." The seeds are 10 plus years old. I found a big note on the fire place next to the tin yesterday after work. "Get some of these going!" I asked about them again. There are some Mexican and Columbian in the mix, and also alot of other old stuff. Im interested in the older Mex and Columbian.Im kinda loaded today. Ill get some going tomorrow!

Good growing to You all! DP

Hi everyone, I thought I had better get this post done before another day of testing as I already have tried to do this 3 times and given up.
Ok the Grail is in full swing now with Nev here, so at the moment testing is being done on the Seeded Oaxacan buds to select the one:D
Next we will look at the Mullum Madness and then the MM x Mex.
Also currently growing is the Hawaiian x Vietnam Black, pure Hawaiian and Hawaiian x G13.....The latter 2 being from fem seeds. I cannot comment on weather these plant are less vigorous as I do not have them in regular to compare. I also did not have any problems with hermies up until this point and the plants are growing as normal as any other. I also must state that these Hawaiian strains are from a excellent breeder of good standing.
We are also in the proccess of starting seeds from Colombian Gold, Airbourne G13, Afghan Purple haze, Purple Thai and from the Mr Nice stock, NL#5 x Skunk and NL#5 x Afghan as we are exploring which Indica will prove to be the best in 25% of the new hybrid.
Next week we will also be starting original F1 Nev Haze seeds which are from Haze C x 5Haze A. We may suffer some germanation problems but hopefully we will get enough:D
Also in the garden is a Skunk which Nev last made in 2004 and he says is from his better line that he did, although this one is a bit lighter smelling than others, but still has the nice bud structure and resin production.
More detail smoke reports will be put up at a later date when the selection has been made of each strain.
We would also like to say a big thank you to the Members who donated there seeds and also the ones that made the offers, unfortunetly we are not able to grow every single strain, although believe me looking at all the pics put up of members strains it would be a dream to be able to do so:D
Well its off to testing again, which means another day of total tripped, spaced out day only to be interupted by a stronger smoke taking you higher than the one before.
ohh and one more thing lets keep this civil please coz if it gets shitty its easy to turn the comp off and nothing gets told until its finished.
This is the start of the Grail and it will be, when we are able, updated from start to finish.

Awesome!!!

Let the games begin!

Thanks Kanga and Nevil, and everyone else.
Can't wait to hear the smoke reports.

This is the very purpose of MNS - to bring like minded folk together to create, share, and educate. I just knew that something good would come from Nevil being back home in the bosom of Aussie growers. There is a new energy and purpose to this meeting up of Nevil and Kangativa, and Bushy of course. Only good things will come from this, and the world watches on eagerly as the maestros play the symphony of grow!

Hey everybody thanx heaps for your support from both of us:D
Sorry if I dont answer each individual post, its not my intention to be ignorant or seem to:o Just busy and hate typing:D
Anyway today was a pretty cruisy day out smelling different early flowering heads and checking out the males of all strains and pulling out ones not needed.
For those purists who want open pollination we did 3 Panama Reds with pollen from 3 males ( all we had ), with 3 more fems to do. Then we will find the best sweetest, strongest female and work on that. The gene pool is still there for future use or to pass on to other breeders, but our chosen female is the one we will work on.
All is still going well with the Oaxacan and it is just about coming to a end and next is the Mullum, we are also working on the crosses of these two, because I pollinated 2 clones of each plant with a Male Mex and a male MM.
Mex 27 is still looking good, although 1 this morning is sitting pretty good as well.
Also first day we smoked a MMx Mex that was very good and is going to be retried with the crosses.
Thanx everyone for keeping it cool, it s good to wake up in the morning and we both get to read good stuff over a coffee...cheers K

Hi kanga ,
i hope that panama is nice and red or your going to upset mr hempy .. hehehe

It is cool how things have returned to normal at MNS and the fighting has stopped. It's pretty peaceful now and hope it stays that way. Nevil might even feel like coming back if things remain peaceful.

I often fancied trying giving a plant red food colouring for the last couple of weeks, see if it would turn red.Red food colouring is just crushed cochineal beetles so it is 100% natural and I can't see it harming a plant, but will the plant uptake it through the roots and turn red? You might just dye the roots red!

Or maybe you could take a just harvested branch and sit it in a jar of water and red dye for a week and it would suck it up the stem. I might have to try this just for fun.

I thought b_h had understood but in fact it is stronger than him...

He can't stop talking too much on subjects he got no clue.

Are you implying here that the reason why Nev has stopped posting is related to the discussions I had with you about all the assertions without proof you were spreading on the forum.

One more time you should check your facts before posting such a nonsense.

Peace.

K.
