BH with all due respect how old are you were you around when lines like pan red were grown no i am thinking and there is a reason the strain was called panama red that is because the flowers were red makes sense no.
Green phinos ? in a pure lines BH you threw 10 seeds down you got 10 plants of the same genetic make up they had the same look smell flavor and high only sex veryed male female and hermies but dont rember seeing hermies in the pan reds.
You know what is ludicrous mate people talking about things they have no clue on then when some one speaks up and tries to educate others is shot down by the same people.
For the Record I was born in 75 so no, I'm not old enough.
I meant no offense by the use of the word ludicrous, I probably should have picked a better word to use. I'm very sorry if you were offended, so let me apologise for that.
I do have experience with a coloure landrace - the Purple Afghan. As far as I know that line was only worked one gen before I got it when mogggy's open pollinated between about a dozen plants I think. Anyways, there were four colour types in that line - dark purple, light purple, pink and green. The main variation between the plants was in fact their colour and it seemed like the variation in colour was just a variation in the amount of the purple pigment present. The green plants had very little, the pink plants had a fair bit as the calyxes were pink/green, the light purple plants had bright purple calyxes so had a lot of the pigment and finally, the dark purple plants had deep dark purple calyxes so must have had a lot of the pigment.
Now, relate that experience to Panama Red and I would expect within a Panama/Colombian Red line there would have been plants with varying levels of the pigment and that would have produced a range of colour types, some red, some pink, some green. Certainly this is true of the Angola Red line as I've seen red, green and an intermediate pink-ish type as well.
Hempy, was the Panama Red you saw grown from seeds picked straight out of import? If not, it could have been worked for at least a couple of years and if they picked the seeds from the red plants and grew those it might only take a couple of years for the red trait to become truebreeding?
I know there are still a load of old Thais and Asians in Australia, wonder if anyone kept an old Panama Red?
