I was just browsing over this thread.... and... so I hear there is some sort of Thia Haze cut in my parts, should I be looking into this or what.

hi all ,

hi Hempy and Nevil ,
a lot of people used strain names incorrectly in this seedy bizz over the years due to marketing reasons, ignorance, due to have been misled..whatever. History of genetics is very important and must be recorded for the future generations but most important is to save what we can , try to work collectively and put egos aside to move forward, make the best out of this short period we are all on this planet. I haven't met personally the people that were involved with the ot1 line but I know some people split and some had nothing to do with all the shit stirrin. Dubi/ACE recieved the ot1 line labeled as "ot1Haze" and Dubi just worked and released the line to the public. He is a very humble and passionate grower and breeder , I know him well and for what its worth..I trust him.

What we have now and what matters is ot1 line is a nice old sativa line (HzBros haze related or not) and after smoking many of the different plants I can say its worth looking into and it seems similar to haze more than any other line there is out there that doesn't come from Haze Bros genetics. And this has been reported by many respected growers as well.Coincidence..i dunno

Like hempy I was also offered some of the original seed back in the day but also declined the offer tho for different reasons..but Shanti did get some of these seeds as well. I would love to hear his view on the smoke quality and the line's potential and what he thought of the similarities to the Haze as he knows it.

hey neville, hope the search is going well mate, have you got access to strains like OMS and MM from australia at all? i believe their origins like you say are thai imports, they'd be pretty good to cross back with your haze wouldn't they?

i'm working on a preservation and breeding project and am hoping to grow out some OMS in the future to create a big batch of seed stock to then later create IBLs to use in crosses. it's definitely an amazing strain from what i've seen so far. a new friend of mine got 9.9 pounds from one plant in qld. epic stuff!

hopefully he doesn't mind me uploading this pic to show you

That OMS is by Gundawindi - originally from 20'Thai, who states it comes from 50s Thai stick.

20'Thai stated that Shanti was going to collect this strain off him, no idea if he did.

Wow that's a plant Darwinsbulldog, about $50,000 worth where I live.
I'm truly impressed.
N.

hehe yeah i said and thought the same thing too when i first saw it... definitely worth about 50k sold down here in south east australia! he shared it all with his mates over a bbq i believe hehe had a HUGE harvest as that was only 1 of 2 plants for the year. kangativa has some equally if not more impressive plants as well that he and bushweed work hard at then upload pictures for the rest of us to pleasure ourselves with at home late at night :D respect bushweed :D and much respect to you too nevil! your work with shanti is out of this world! i hope to be half as good a breeder one day

R.E:thai genertics

Hi all,hi Nevil,I have had a bit of experiance with the sativa genetcis availible around Aus.
I grew up in Q.L.D,and spent alot of time around the hunter valley region of N.N.S.W.I wasn,t smoking in tyhe 70,s,but i was smoking in the early 80,s.and sampled many of the amazing sativas availible, many thai,viet,laos,p.n.g gold strains, many giant sats with s.e asian roots.
I started growing using seeds i had collected from the buds, and later received strains from other growers,i had heard of Mullumbimby Maddness, and the many myths associated with and went on a mission to find it,i had relations in lismore,so spent alot of time around that region, and found lots of so called M.M strains, and spent many years growing and experimanting with these strains outdoors,i was really impressed by the size of these beautys, and the amzing effect some of these strains produced!
I later started indoor growing, and switched to indice based strains.
About 10 years ago,i took an intrest in the sativas again, and was again on the search,i rended up running into a guy,who had been growing the old mother sativa,a pure giant sativa, also known as Mullumbimby Madness,i obtained seed from him,and grew it out and experimanted with it many years,it took a lot of selection to find the right plant, but they were in there, and produced an amazing product.
I also joined "overgrow",and shared my ecperiances, photos, ect,i ran into a lot of growers, gropwing the same strain and other M.M strains and pure sats.
Mullum madman had some great sats, and a version of M.M.
I obtained many M.M lines, and old mother sativa from diffrent growers, and also an excellent highland p.n.g gold,i also collected what i thought was the most amazing strain i had the pleasure to smoke,a pure thai, the one made popular, but gaurded tightly,by 20 thai for those who remember, unfortunatly it was gaurded a bit to "tightly"and vanished! I received the strain, only finally after promising with my life never release it out of my garden.I lost the strain due to circumstances, but do have an old tore of the seeds, they may be useless though.
There was also a few landraces introduced by growers in 2002,i can remember when they hit, some of them where amazing, including a strain from bangledesh, and an amazing thai, they called it "78 thai bhudda" or something like that,so i know there are definatly a few old gems floating around, theres also a few growers around Aus now doing some work with ols school sat lines, the zoid line i think ones called.
I and many others have wanted nothing more than to see some of the sats collected by aussie growers used by breeders.u nfortunatly alot of the older strains around have lost alot of there charcter due to poor breeeding and care, but there are some out therei hope some of these guys from the overgrow days step up and join in on this, anyway, take care guys..Sensient

great thread ,im estatic that your in process of a haze with your touch

id agree with unc L33t

as for a female
tom hill haze seems to be the purest haze available nowadays and is from the same stock ,the SAMS CC ohaze/skunk thaihaze skunk are other options ,also the sk/hz from MNS but in my opinion it is sweet along with incense ,the OSH id lov to see put in seed som how and i think A5 diesel/AG13 might also be other options ,also the OT haze selections from ace seeds seem to have too same similar characteristics to the haze traits, also cannabiogen meo thai ive heard great things about its a pure thai

also how about that colombian gold from british hempire or a colombian black from keyplay which is using some of medic's selections who i also believe has other pure sativas including thai

,think these are possible canadidates for the thought of somthin toward the haze A side

also as a side note if i recall correct the name ultimate haze hybrid i believe was used by reeferman ,soo the oher name might be more fitting

Hi hempy, I always value your input so thank you for the reply , I agree ot1 is a line that was marketed initially, and then by all as Haze probably for market sales reasons among others . But imo what is important is that passionate and honest growers like dubi worked with the ot1 sativa line and made it available to all and those old genes are still here for anyone interested to try and judge the quality. I know you did not grow or smoke it and think too bad cause I would really like to hear your opinion.Anyway I dont really think the ot1 would be the best choice to help improve NH , Toms sounds more close to what Nevil is looking for imo

Hi Nevil,
As I've said before, I don't know what other seed companies are doing. I haven't smoked a good Haze in 25 years that didn't come from the 7 plants I wrote about earlier. If some one else has got good haze, where did it come from, and how old were the seeds when they were sprouted?
People are coming forward with possible candidates for the Haze hybrid. I'm very excited.
N.
here are some interesting Tomhill posts on his Haze who as I said earlier comes from Sam through Positronics :

"I picked up 4-5 15 packs of "original haze" from positronics in '95, as well as sk1, bred for earliness "hand pollenated by the skunkman"
biggrin.gif
At any rate I'd like to get down to it Sam. Most of the Dutch hazes used in hybrids seemed to me from earlier f1 Mexican Colombian stock? A bit more sawn teak/leather of a flavor than the majority of Thai dominant citrus Haze I seemed to have aquired? Is this so? At any rate, the haze I have when it is on, can not be compared to by anything I have ever encountered, ever. Thank you sir for your efforts to make this so. I don't know what to tell folk that have not encountered this. It can be truly awsome.
"

"Each year I pollinated females with male pollen mixes, then saved the seed from only the excellent females after the smoke was tested. In 2003, I gathered seed from all of the best plants from generations 1-6, grew them, and let them pollinate each other. Follow? But it gets more complicated, because each year I typically will sprout several generations of seed, not only seed from the latest generation. So that a high percentage of the later generations are products of matings to earlier generations. IE, there is a span of generations included, as apposed to an exact number of generations removed from the original source".

"If I was crunching numbers in the closet I would not cull a lamb. However, if I was dealing with numbers... I know Haze. It is resinous on the stem in veg to the tune of 75%, it smells like a metal shop for lack of a better definition to be sure, no other word for it."

"Haze plants are well culled to ommit the resinless vegging phenos, they are not many, maybe 25%. But do well to get rid of them, all that don't smell like a high school metal shop in early veg are not whorth growing out ime.- T"

"The 2003 seed lot was around (notes are not currently handy) 2-7 generations removed from Positronic stock. Let me try to explain a little better. Each year I pollinated females with male pollen mixes, then saved the seed from only the excellent females after the smoke was tested.
IE, there is a span of generations included, as apposed to an exact number of generations removed from the original source. -Tom"

"I suppose I was guilty of looking on the bright side there somewhat, for yes, there's definitely some Hay in there too. All cannabis that does not have strong terpenes fall under the Hay category in my opinion - when there is nothing left but chlorophyll to smell. Yes, there are phenotypes in this line where all of the herbal, citrus, and metallic/oil properties are so faint that I do classify them as hay. These are most often phenotypes lacking resin. Many of these plants are chock-full of complex smells and flavors, but yes, there's some Hay in there too for sure. -Tom "

"In this particular Haze line, at 4-6 weeks old, resin will start to develop 3/4 up on the main stalk in 75% +/- of the plants regardless of photoperiod. The most resinous buds will develop from within this group in my experience - there seems to be some correlation there. If I was pressed for space, I would cull the 25% of plants that weren't producing resin on the main stalks by 6 weeks old. -Tom"

Another post on what side of haze is responsible for the good effects:

"That being said, I have always felt that it was more like the Thai I have smoked more than anything else. It is clear and electric and very strong, penetrating - rocks me to the core".

more info on TomHill haze:
"It is very complex but I'll give it my best shot. Three complex components. A Thai-like lime citrus, an herb collection (rosemary, thyme etc), and a high school metal shop (metallic/oily). These 3 components are represented to varying degrees depending on phenotype - some are more herbal, some more citrus, some more metallic etc". -Tom

"Yeah, there are some sweeter/pineapple like aromas in there too."

Seems Toms haze has that metallic taste which i think basically refers to the "liver" description of yours. I remember i had a very nice MangoHaze that was very metallic/oily like , excellent tasting plant..nice to know that flavor comes from HzA. Interestingly one of the best lines if not the best I ve smoked in my life was a landrace sativa , the kalamata strain which probably has distant Thai origins..We called it the 'Blood', was bit lemony and spicy/piny and had that Iron-like bit meaty(raw meat) flavor..

Some more info on Toms line:
"If I was doing breeding work or really seeking a nice Haze clone I'd want to look at at least 20 females.

The high is not consistent, this has always been my experience with this Haze. Regarding effect, most I'd rank as an up, cerebral, sociable, medium/high potency to varying degrees. Some though are incredibly friggen potent - a sometimes concerning intense high that lasts for 4+ hours. Of course these later types are the ones we enjoy most, or I do anyway. My experience has been that approximately 5% are absolutely outstanding, representing well this reputation/legend of the Haze high. There is some full-on hay in there too, I don't know, I guess I'd say that 10-20% piss me off as a waste of time? The vast majority of the line though falls somewhere between these two extremes. -Tom"

"I do recommend the line as excellent breeding material."

"I'll go ahead and upgrade my assessment to agree with CBF's ^^ and say that there's a "good" plant in every 10 pack on average. But I have grown over a thousand of these Haze plants and once you find an "excellent" example then the bar is all shot to hell and then some forevermore - this is the place from where I am looking at it. Those are about one in twenty, this has been my experience with it. I do not know what your definition of average is, but if you're looking for the majority of what you grow from seed to be anything in particular, I would advise you to grow true F1 hybrids - none of which I offer currently."

"About 75% of them will have resinous stalks approx 3/4's of the way up+ on a sexed plant. It looks though that Miaumiau has removed many of the meristems for clones. The resinous stalks will reveal themselves then when these clones get to about 10-12 inches I reckon."

"I am familiar with most all current Original Haze offerings. To be fair though, some I have not looked at very extensively. However, none have been able to move me near as much as this old Sam line via Posi. My selections have focused on high-quality resin production, and imo this line is the Haze resin-queen.
Occasionally the typical armchair Haze expert will come along and inform me that my line is a Haze hybrid due to the occasional broader leaf - exactly like the drawings of the Thai seedling in the opening pages of Clarkes MJ Botany. It all falls on deaf ears though.
When I am requesting a clean-up on isle 9 due to my mind being split open, or am afraid to drive my car high on a decent sample (4 hours after smoking it) - all perspective is put in its proper place.
I'm almost afraid to release it, tehee, some of you will get so noided-out that you will shitcan your current IC accounts only to return a few weeks later under new handles after the Haze clears.
My friend CBF has been growing my Haze stock for years, and I don't think he'll part ways with it anytime soon.
This plant is my holy grail, by far, nothing can touch it."
