Hello,
What is the difference between the Queen and the Early Skunk? How long does it take for the best weed seed in the world to arrive in Kansas if it was sent a week ago? Your plant is the difference between knowing what you are doing and just a hoping that things work our ok..-huh....
Happy token to ya

HELLO ALL! WELCOME TO 'eQ: hangin with the queens'.

INTRO:
let me start by saying how excited i am to finally kick off this thread as ITSBENFUN and myself have been talking about it for probably a month now.. it all started when we struck up a friendship in part because we both had the eQ lined up as our next strain to work with.

in our pm conversations, it became clear that during the period leading up to our final decision to commit to ordering (and thus working with) the line, that we both felt frustrated by the lack of information on the girl.. sure, there was a description, a few isolated growthreads, but not any one rich resource we could sink our teeth into.

SO WHAT'S A GROWER TO DO!? ...-we start it ourselves!

*day26 of flowering.this is the seedplant after a cut was taken.

the first thing i should make clear, is the concept we had- this is not our eQ growthread; this thread is to belong to the MNS community! - anyone either working with, or is simply curious about the eQ, if that's you, then this is YOUR thread. so please feel free to post your grows, pics, questions and any other eQ related piece of string that u can think of!!

-for 'eQ;hangin' to succeed, we are totally dependant on the input, combined knowledge, experience and generosity of the MNS community.

- it is our hope that this won't b a disposable thread, but that with time, it will grow into a valuable resource for anyone wanting to get a good feel for the line-

-any and all information on the strain, it's parental lines, history etc.. will be highly appreciated. i've also sent a pm to both Nev and Shanti informing them of our intentions re this thread and to invite them to contribute to it as they see fit.. so we've got that to look forward to, fingers crossed!! .. beyond that, do as thou wilt and with all respect.. sweet? sweet!! ..jj

Have you ever grown the Early Skunk?

May I ask yoy a question? Do you happen to know how long it will take the kick-ass Early White widow seeds to reach Kansas? Please, if you have any growing advice and feel like sharing on outside grow---please feel free to let know????
Thanks, John

no worries , ive always got lots on the go at all times :D

Agreed mate, Celtic called you out, we need a SMOKE report...

Guys, JJ probably smoked it all before the report could even get printed...

Okay, advanced level talk now... Crossing EQ to something?

The Fat Lady has finally sung.

Apologies to all for my long absence but life got in the way.

My first ever grow of the Early Queen is harvested and it's been very worthwhile. The Queens proved to be hassle free until almost to the end until a very dry but humid Summer came to an end with 4 1/2" of rain falling in 2 days.

Here are my main 4 plants as they commenced flowering. They consist of 2 plants plus a clone of each. Ignore the small plants on bottom left which are clones of supposed White Widows but more on them later.

I have no idea how tall these girls would have grown if I had left them alone but as I was keen to keep them below the fence line I cut them back regularly until they had commenced flowering. They powered on and I had to bend top branches and 49 days after I had first seen the onset of flowering they had grown into this beautiful sight.

At this stage they were still a week or so off being at their peak and then disaster struck with that 4 1/2" of rain I mentioned above. Wandering out to see how they had coped with the overnight rain my heart sunk at the sight of all 4 plants collapsed under the weight of the top most heads. As the weather radar showed a huge storm about to hit I made the decision to harvest the top heads after realising that there was no way I could successfully tie the plants up. My spare room was soon full of wet dope and I cursed as I saw signs of mould so any claim to the Early Queens being resistant to mould was blown out of the water. I suspect that this had already arrived before the rain and that the Summer of high humidity was the culprit. The rain had obviously given it a kick along and the remaining heads left on the plants were in dire peril of being ruined. Here's a pic where the mould can be seen and I went over the plants once the sun had returned and cut out any mould I found.

So that laborious trimming part of the grow commenced and I have no idea how many ounces I lost to mould. I've been led to believe that it is possible to use mouldy dope for Canna Butter and I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has experience with this. God knows what effect mouldy heads would have on the taste.

Here's a couple of sad pics.

Despite this I have managed to save a large proportion of heads without mould and I am very impressed with its smoke ability and am looking forward to sampling it when the curing process has worked its magic.

One thing I was impressed with was the ease of striking cuttings. Late in the season I struck 4 cuttings which were able to be planted out in 2 weeks. I had no great hopes for them and just planted them very close to each other like so. This was 9 days after being planted out, 23 days from striking the cuttings.

Amazingly they went into flower almost immediately and 9 weeks after the cuttings were struck (7 weeks after being planted out) they were looking good.

This was the result from the 4 late clones.

Only around 4 ounces but well worth the effort I thought.

So I'm giving the Early Queen a big thumbs up and will certainly grow them again.

I also grew some seeds bought from White widow seeds and suggest that everyone mark these shonks as people to never do business with. I grew 3 of them out and they were all distinctly different with only one of them showing any signs of a typical White Widow but that one was a runt that grew half the size of the other 2. It commenced flowering 14 days before the Early Queens which threw me into a panic thinking that I may have mixed up the labelling of the seedlings. All 3 White Widows are crap with loose packed non-resinous heads with a low THC content. Despite this they attracted as much mould as the Early Queens and I think that they are only fit for cooking, if that.

So another season over and more lessons learnt but despite the mould problem I will grow the Queens again and next time I will also try Mr Nice's Black Widow so that I can learn what I might have had if I hadn't been sucked in by the shonks at White Widow Seeds.

Time to make up a mix.

Great post comrade! Shame about the rainy weather:mad:

Very imforative and fun reading. I found the smoke to have a really nice flavor and smell. Still curing myself but so far the outlook is good:D

Cheers Comrade Fun. Yeah, the Queen tastes and smells mighty fine. I was pleased that the taste from my first toke had that true quality flavor and it can only get better as the cure progresses.

Are you still planning an outdoor grow? If so, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

The only place on my block that I can grow has a lousy aspect and I tend to squeeze more plants in than I should as late in the season I rapidly lose hours of sunlight. This had much to do with my troubles this year but I have a cunning plan for next time, touch wood.

I also grew a couple of other plants not mentioned in this thread and I thought the plant below might be of interest. It's called ABC (Australian Bastard Cannabis) and while it doesn't have a very high THC content it's worth growing just for its uniqueness I reckon. Before it goes into flower it is unrecognisable as dope. It finishes late and copes very well with cold weather.

holy hell... man, ur f'ing with me.. those aren't cannabis r they? thats some freaky shit.

jondojoando-albums-eq-picture4847-outdoor-eq2.jpg
eQ#2-this was not to be a keeper.. so i threw her out back. and yes, mold is an issue... gotta say though, she's lookin way nicer on her 2nd run..

p.s. for those waiting for smoke report, i'm waiting for a few more 1st run girls to come in, then i'll do one as part of the selection process, shiny?

hey minarvi. yeah mold is a hagard bitch.. had some on a couple of my eQ's too.. a matter of selection, i guess... having said that, i did expect them to b way more resistant on the whole. ..hmm.........

one other issue i'v observed with my queens is low flowering triggers. i always continually take a bunch of cuts. on quite a few, they've gone to 3 leaflet stage, which in of itself isn't too much of a problem, but they're real bloody stubborn to coax back into a full vegetative state..

hey chana. on the subject of breeding them, i don't feel i know em well enough yet. i'm a crazy '3 runs till i know' type guy!

hey hoss.. sorry it's taken so long for a reply,... early queen is a 3 way cross of early pearl, early girl, superskunk. early skunk is early pearl X skunk#1.. .. . if memory serves me right. see post #41 on this thread for details....

cheers all

WOW. What the hell kind of Cannabis is that? It looks like a totally different branch of the family that I've never seen before.

Any more pics or a story about where this came from?

Read all about it here.

I had the opposite experience with cuttings. They rooted quickly and boomed. Of course I wasn't striking something that had already reached flowering stage.

Outdoor

Are you still planning an outdoor grow? If so, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I am and spring is setting into full swing up here. I've got my 10 mothers, clones and a shit ton of F2 seed. I ended up with around 7000 F2 seeds:eek:
Not going to do them all this year:p It will be a 'Nice' comparison to your grow. All organic of coarse:D So stay tuned...

Ive seen pics of that ABC before in a High Times, some time ago now but very interesting leaves. Thanks for sharing those i had forgotten about that variety.

7000!?!?!?! hahahahaha. take that, octo-mom! man, u gotta grow some out for the thread... love to see the f2 results.. .jj

No problem...as many as i can!!!!:D

Octo-mom aint got shit on me lol! Ive still got enough pollen to make 10,000 more hahaha!

Savin that for crosses though... So Chana, if your looking for something to add earliness and a sweet flavour and smell, EQ is your gal. Check out the description from Early Haze(EQ x Afghan Haze)-This is a limited edition seed that has a unique scent and flavor and due to its early finishing side has been a great influence on the practical Haze hybrids. Now it is possible to select for a Haze influence in flavor and a quick growing and substantial yield for a flowering plant without sacrificing anything on effect. This will have Medical growers, inexperienced growers and advanced growers all working on a level playing ground as the selection of a mother will be individual to the requirements of those choosing this hybrid to adventure into. There is a particularly unique flavor accompanied with the Early Queen side of this hybrid and with some fair selection there will be a real gift waiting to be found. It will be a very easy and rewarding plant for all styles of growers and all types of mediums - without compromise. Earlier phenotypes of this hybrid will be completed by 8 or 9 weeks and 11 weeks for the distinctly unique flavored phenotypes. A yield of 400 to 600 grams per square meter would be a bench mark to realize, but it may surprise the grower if the plant likes the growing arrangement. Outdoor and greenhouse grows will be above average. This is a hybrid that a lot of growers will attempt in time as it offers a good side to all traits a plant is selected for including alleviation to medical symptoms and pain management.

Hmm, well i suppose this is a stab in the dark but i would have to say 60-70 days for an average but i think there are some to be found that are quicker more towards the 45-55 day range.
