Thanks for all that, lots of good stuff to digest. It's funny, I've never really noticed much from stem rubs, other than what I can describe as a general type plant smell. Like, just a green smell. At what stage of growth does smell come out from stems? Its easy to do (just to go from one variety to the next.) Some gene pools are definitely more rewarding to dive into than others. On that, there is no accounting for taste too, I suppose. However its kind of like traveling and the difference between passing through and really spending time in a place. The two are not the same experience. Then growing something and dialing it in to perfection, grow, harvest time, and cure, are not one and the same either.
When it comes to plants, there is something to be said for doing your own selection. The end result almost always perform better for you. Than what you got from the breeder. In part, because part of the selection process was innately preferring those plants, that do the best in your hands. So whatever your grow conditions are: they become part of that selection process. Also, in going through a large volume of seedlings, it gives you the opportunity to really skim the creme de la creme.
Then there is the old expression: a jack of all trades is a master of none. Yet also: variety is the spice of life. So to me, the question is finding the middle ground.
If it were this strain in question, and part of your criteria were some Critical Mass flavor in the mix. What I would do is to sprout as many seedlings as I were able and then only keep the ones with the fruity stem rub early on, that also expressed reasonable to high vigor and narrower leaves. That would narrow the search considerably, culling all plants, that don't meet those conditions. Then select (actually flower the ones that remain) from there. (the proof is in the tasting after all)
I'm not sure if I mentioned earlier, but I only grew 2 plants outdoors, a CBD Therapy and I threw in an extra Mango Haze for fun. The Therapy got huge and beautiful as per usual. I grow it for a friend. I'm also planning on making some Therapy hash soon, for shits and giggles. The Mango Haze didn't reach her full potential with the timing of my climate, but I got lots cloudy trichs to make Mango Haze hash with.
I am currently filling up my tent to grow my favorite 2 MHs from last spring indoor as well as a NH I've been able to keep alive for the last 2 years. I want to stockpile some of my favorites now
