Colombian gold - British Hempire - smoke rep and pics

Hi Nev

Yes, there is definitely a case of hybridisation going on there but Pin loved the plants and from the descriptions the taste and smell were the same as i was getting.

Yes, snowcap's line is the same one. The Colombian does have a bit more resin that some sats, although the Oaxacan I have is similarly resinous.

Here are some pics of the Colombian grown by need4weed in NFT, he said he got a pounf off this plant under a 600 on an NFT table, to me, this is exactly what the Colombian in pure form looks like, very leafy but also big yielding, branches all over the place and has something of a creeper grown pattern, in late flowering she flops around all over the place under the weight of her flowers and the stems have a distinctive pale purple colour.

Imagine this crossed to an indica and we might be getting somewhere I reckon. I'll make sure seeds of the pure line get passed around soon.

here are a few pics of my colombian gold, this is a plant with huge potential, it was grown in 10 litres of coco and is at 72 days flower....i am going to call it Budzilla as it is all buds from top to bottom, my wife calls it spider pig.

TY interesting to hear your experience was a sweet one

yes it was the same line ,took a while i forgot which site he responded at BH got quick fingers im a bad typist

this was his description in response to me ,which he also kindly reported other sativa varietes

So my experience with Colombian Gold: Taste, aroma, and effects.

The taste of Colombian Gold varies from the source, I've seen very long flower versions to faster flowering types. The more loose flower type I've smoked has colors from Purple, green and golden with hues of other colors depending environmental conditions. I have also grown and smoked more broad leafed Colombian Gold which grew like an indica at 1st then the leaves thinned out in flower to a stacked calyx.

The thing that was the same for both was the effect of the Colombian Gold. The high seems to hit you behind the eyes, as if you weren't high, very clear and enjoyable with a shimmering aura, very social herb with a clear head..lovely dreamy herb. The smell is quite intoxicating also, like a dried glob of mountain honey smeared on some type of wild grass to be dried in the sun. Its the type of weed you want to keep smelling

luiz described the effects as stong long lasting and more sedative i dont think that it completely indicative of a hybrid as some lumbos have this effect .luiz also described the CG as fruity n spicy

BTW luiz mentioned the CG buds were more compact ,but Snows buds looks very sativa n they remind me of how similar they look to my sk/hz i grew out ,anyhow interesting to think that line has a decent indi % but still very sativa expressive

What snow says about the high chimes exactly with how I find it - dreamy and very social, enhances conversation, music, sex, ladies like it. lol

I'd say the one I have is the 'loose flower type' that snow describes. Maybe what Pin had was pure CG and just a recessive less common indica type that popped out? In Colombia, since the early 80s they haven't been growing pure sats anymore, everything is hybridised to stuff they imported and they call it 'Crippi' or 'Kryptonite' and say it's much stronger than the original stuff they had, but who knows what they were really going, maybe Nev sold seeds to some Colombian guys who turned up in Holland? There are tales of the Colombian and Mexican gangs sending guys to Holland to buy suitcases full of seeds in the mid 80s to replace the stuff they had had sprayed with Paraquat.

This Colombian I have may not be 100% pure Santa Marta sativa genes but it's a very special line imho, and whatever indica it might have had infused into it hasn't done anything but improve it. Nev might be right, it might have some NL5 in it. All I can do to answer the questions is make more seed and spread it about so people can grow it and decide for themselves what they think it is.

Need4weed crossed his Colombian momma to a C99 male and had good results:

Hi Big herb,
I found the cg to be an interesting plant, she takes 21 days to form pistils and a further 84 to flower, the smell when flowering is light odour of cat piss, when you rub the stems it smells like lemons, but when the buds are cured the smell and taste is very spicy.....definately incence.
The buzz is nice, all in the head as would be expected, it is very clear with no paranioa, anxiety or raciness more conversational, thought provoking and euphoric. a nice long cruisy mellow ride. for me it is a feel good strain!
It was grown under 600w lighting and consistantly produces 1lb, after the cross with C99 she now produces 18-19 oz per plant per 600watt light.
This plant needs a huge amount of space as she has extremely long side branches with very few leaves, the main fan leaves are quite small allowing good light penetration to the lower branches.
I think she is ideal for outdoors or scrog indoors

That is encouraging.
Nev might be right, it might have some NL5 in it.
It'll save me the bother, I like 25% NL5 to improve resin, yield and shorten the flowering period. Ppl often talk about a sativa having no ceiling, I often complain about it having no bottom. It's kind of like listening to piano music done with just the right hand. No balance.
N.

Well you'll see for yourself hopefully and be able to decide how pure you think the 'pure' line I have is. From the limited number of grows of the few crosses I made with the Colombian is looks like it crosses well producing hybrids with good resin and with the Colombian smell/taste dominating so hopefully it will prove interesting and useful.

This is an outdoor grow by dkmonk of some Malawi Gold x Colombian Gold I made with a Malawi female and a Colombian male, grown in the southern US:

dkmonk gave one of the females he had to his mate Tetragrammaton to grow indoors and he got a pheno he said was pretty special to him:

Hey guys, here some pictures of the Malawi Gold x Santa Marta Colombian gold plant at 10 weeks that I grew last year. I harvested the majority of her on week 16, and she continued to flower and give me another harvest a few months later. Extremely potent and very euphoric. By potent, I mean by smoking too much, your brain will feel fried, to the point of sleep... Not at all like an indica though. This strain was not racy at all, and was very calming, euphoric, and stimulating. As a musician and artist, it inspired me in ways that most strains just don't. The flavor was excellent as well. The prominant flavor was sour candy Citrus, with a black pepper aftertaste. The fragrance of the plant while flowering was extremely sweet and perfumy at times, and at other times very Citrusy, depending on time of day.

Looks like a more Malawi pheno to me.

Im happy to see that my report has sparked such a healthy discussion among so many wise thank you.
A little bit of info that I havnt mentioned yet is the fact that these beuts were grown in my (in my own mind) now legendary grow cave under a 250w, a space so inhospitable and so badly suited to a wild sativa as it can get, with barely 2 metres floor to ceiling. The shape you see on the finished girls is a result of massive supercropping, just to get them to fit.
humbly

Nice work BH and Pin. If these CG ever become available I would love a crack at them. I noticed you(BH) mentioned that some oaxacans have a menthol smell, have you ever found this type of smell in other s.american genetics?

As I have mentioned before, I have oaxacan x choc thai that fits this menthol smell. Smells like eucalyptus spearmint on the stem rub, really clears the nostrils.

I have to wonder if this odor appears as dominant in other landraces or is it a regional thing(environmental)?

Thanks,
sp

terrible response but thanks for coming.. heh heh
Peace
P.

In any case Im very glad to know they come from brazil seed company originally, thats as close as I can get to old time colombian here in the Czech republic.
pin

if it's brazilian seed company running by fritzman then it's probably brazilian bag seeds.
I personally don't have any 1st hand experience with fritzman but more experienced growers from brazil talk stories of nom viability, nom sending seeds and herm, so be careful

Thanks for the kudos SP, Id love to be able to give away a million as.. I have to say BB, could care less what bag these seeds are from Its great pot! In a cross its great, on its own its great.
Just plain ol´ great pot, said by someone who has been smoking for at least thirty years worldwide I tend to respect my own opinion LOL "of great pot"
though Im willing to admit there may be even greater pot of this type I have yet to find it.
Cheers
P.

I am old enough to have smoked Columbian Gold and Panama Red and Thai..The thai I smoked was not sticks(wrapped with hemp or thread) but some beans brought back and adapted to homegrowing here in N.E. I paid 600.00 a qp which was BIG money for weed back in late seventies.CG oz's were 45.00.Panama Red was 50.00.I had so many of the thai beans back in the day.I still hope to run across old beans when I go through old belongings..lol.
I have a brother that lives in Thailand but penalties are VERY severe over there.I wouldn't even ask..
Pin..enjoy your girl and thx for sharing the grow with us..:)

Nice one Pin. I have fresh pure CG seeds and 3 crosses using the same CG male so drop me a PM if you need anything for your comparison.
