Friends this is the fine constituent of many top MSC strains in the seedbank, Its not a plant to grow as a first timer (its hard to keep your hands off of 15 weeks) and stars in many crosses from buddha

Colombian gold
MSC smoke report template

=================================================
IDENTIFICATION
=================================================

Date: 2007 – reconstructed grow report from old site
Strain: Santa Marta Colombian gold landrace
Judge: Moi
Breeder: Big Buddha aka. British Hempire
Grower: Pindulinka @ MSC

Grown using; Please add here your substrate, lighting (if indoor) and basic nutrients:
Indoor grow at approx 17 degrees Celsius (winter), 250w HPS, advanced nutrients, coco substrate with earthworm castings at 70/20%, some superthrive
Flower period: 14 – 16 weeks

Supplements and supplemental techniques; please add any additives, supercropping, FIM, LST etc.: Intensive supercropping and fim
Additional notes: Though grown in very uncomfortably cramped conditions (ceiling height 150 cm) the plant performed quite well, an accidental addition of grow solution in the flower period resulted in intensive foxtailing which had to be trimmed, otherwise an amazingly resilient plant once the root ball is established it is able to handle any growers mistakes.

Thankyou for digging through your archives to document your work with the CG Pin, I know how much you enjoyed her. I had fresh seeds of her for you and some new f1 hybrids of a Colombian male to some choice females so I'll put some to one side for ya.

I can see the problem you had with the excess n causing new shoots, I have gone and done the same thing to the one I have flowering now, she was dropping leaves like mad from down below, looked to be crying out for N so I got her nice and green again and she responded by throwing out a foot long wispy shoot from one of her colas. It's been three years since I ran the pure lumbo and I'm struggling to get it right this first run, she was doing great then I had this wierd thing happen where leaves and buds on about 15% of the plant turned brown and died, the rest of the plant is doing great apart from the drown dead patches and the long wispy growth shoot I've had to pinch and bend, but I have more cuttings and a different female I've just cloned too so I'll work out a coco feeding regime for them eventually. I've just switched the one I have in flowering from chemical feeding to organics using an esoteric hombrew of Molasses, Seaweed, powdered Aminos, Lecigran and a high potash organic tomato feed made from poutry manure. There's not much N in that regime, just small amounts in the Molasses, Seaweed and Aminos, from this point on (9 weeks 12/12) I'm keeping her on a low N diet to make her grow flowers, she's well behind where she should be in floral development I think, but it's been a while since I ran her so we shall see.

Shame the girdling didn't work, I want to try some different techniques on future runs of the lumbo, I could go more extreme than you did with the girdling or emply the Mexican 'crucifiction' technique of driving a couple of old rusty nails or wooden stakes through the stem at right angles.

i could read that report anyday ,thanks for once again sharing

on the golden issue and girdlnig method ,its been said by afew they have had sucess but its been said by more than this method was not used by the S.amercian growers of traditional imports .i understand that reports of those that hav had sucess with the method say its bestt o do it at the end of flowering

below is an older post of mine with a quote from SAMS ,i do believe him this time lol

Try it, they come out looking like imported "gold".

IME ive seen countless nyc haze varieties that were golden and im sure the bark or stem were not stripped ETC or grown outdoor even ,which supports the fact of it being related to the genetics.i have some outdoor NH and hillbilly haze which both have a golden appeal the NH abit more soo .no sun drying no girdling all in the genetics.

Thanks for the kind words guys, it makes doing the work worth it!
Foxtailing was the main "problem" with the plant, it would launch off shoots right and left till I put it onto straight flowering nutes and the foxtails bulked up, they were oh so smokeable so.. no trouble but it just drives you crazy at 14 weeks eh ;)

Very awesome report and nice pictures! Props to you attempting the girdling, even though it didn't lead to much success. Experimentation like that and documentation of it is key to all of our success =) Very, very cool!

I've got over 500 fresh f1 Volunteer x Colombian Gold seeds here, just harvested them and they are drying. Volunteer is an indica that sprouted out of a pot of recycled coco of it's own accord to has unknown genes. It's probably a pure indica, grows like one with minimal stretch and very dense resinous buds. I made them as an intermediate step to making a 75% Colombian hybrid but even with the seeds I need I've got hundreds I don't need. Just wondering how to distribute them to people. Anyone has any clever ideas, let me know.

Hi guys look not trying to be an ass here or start an argument but no way is that Colombian gold.

Who cares Hempy, its great pot! Jump on these if you get them, you wont be disappointed.
To be honest the girdling is likely urban myth.. I also agree with the fact that leaving them in the sun to dry will "bleach them" to a golden colour. I tried the girdling because I heard about it waaay back and wanted to get to the nitty gritty.. Dont do it, itll only hurt yield. I have a feeling that practically everything you do to a plant "crucifixion et al." will do nothing else than than hurt yield. Not for a home grower, maybe plantations in colombia but not in a closet LOL.
BH, I may have a few ideas about distributing those seeds ;)
Cheers

there is a problem when it comes to strain identification from countries that are known producers and imho it is impossible to label a particular plant "gold" and exclude the many others similarly situated. recent photos of gold have shown plants with substantially fatter flowers than i recall but this could be result of the indoor environ and proper diet as much as anything? sativa dom plants grown in certain parts of columbia are golds irrespective of the fact that next door neighbors will have gardens that are obviously different and often even the farmer has little idea where the genetics came from originally. quite often they simply come from another farmer as grow stock is switched around. the hunt for gold should lead you to different hybs so the trick remains in finding the one that works best for you. peace-biteme

terrible response but thanks for coming.. heh heh

In any case Im very glad to know they come from brazil seed company originally, thats as close as I can get to old time colombian here in the Czech republic.

They dont look like columbine why i sed it.

Basically strains like Thia and columbine gold got there color as they cured other things like pan red had red flower in flower and after cure.

Ring barking is what some say gave the color to the CG no it is basically the color of the strains flower at the end of drying and curring.

Well hempy if its even a pimple on the bum of Gold, Im satisfied.. meeting old timers that remember stuff like that is a blast. Im really sorry I didnt have any with me when I met Howard in November. His positive or negative ID I would trust over anyone elses... I wont make that mistake twice ;).
I really have to say that even though Ive only been smokin since Reaganomics I sometimes find myself saying after tasting something "you should smoke some of the shit that was around in the eighties, this stuff isnt even close"... so... could it be that whatever you smoked "back in the day" is better than what you have now.
Ill take it a step further, when I was working in Radio we spent a lot of time in defining our target group based on a specific demographic spike in the birth rate for people of that age. If we then reel the clock forward to a time period roughly 15 to 19/20 years after their birth we would have a whole library of music that that particular listener would be most interested in "re-listening" to at no cost on the radio. Oh besides the commercial breaks ;)
The age of 15 to 20 is the absolutely most important period for the development and "honing" of a personality where tastes and styles of life are defined, cliques and allegiances are formed and throughout this period many things become "the best" for that person. Like music, or beer or that old time Colombian gold.
Its a pretty windy response but this "watered down" one brings me back to the sativa doms I would smoke on trips to mexico or the carribean so thats my 15 - 20 period right there::rolleyes: "the best can never be better cause I was young, healthy and just Beoootiful back then" LOL
Cheers

ive always been interested in this line and BH had brough this specific stock to my attention ,similar to what DJ SHORT described which carries my favorite trait of all time dont think i gotta say it

its great to hear the OT's experiences aswell as those with current stock ,ive spoke to luiz in pm and he said he could tlk about this one forever sadly he hasnt posted much but has given some insight (best wishes to you) ,but id love to hear more from him .also curious as to what nevils opinon of the CG's of yesteryear looked smelled/taste like

i have to ask hempy if you are familiar with CG can you give some input as too your opinion rather than confirm without reason

what i find interesting again is the fact BH found the frankincense trait in the line .luiz told me its quite rare but didnt deny it and said a while back they was an argument/discussion on this trait n his line some said it was a hybrid others said it was Cred ,which rang a bell for me .i remember a while back when starting my Frankincense trait thread scorpion was very kind to share his thoughts and told me if i recall correct that this trait he first discovered in75 red lumbo and the incense trait was wat the OT'S looked for to confirm it was real deal and still is wat haze heads look for ;)

you know my feelings more incense less nonsense

Pin and I discussed this issue at length back at the time those plants were grown.

Pin had some variation and some 'indica' phenos, as you can see in some of his pics, some of his plants were clearly hybrids, some look like pure Colombians.

So what happened? We don't know is the honest answer. I did make some colombian hybrids, my memory isn't precise as it was 5-6 years ago i made the seeds but I received a load of pollen from a friend in Vancouver of his staple heirloom outdoor strain he called Nolalu Gold as it came from Nolalu Bay and as supposed to be an acclimated Colombian Gold. I dumped that pollen on one of my Colombian ladies and got a couple of hundred seeds. The hybrid phenos pin got are most likely Colombian x Nolalu. I sent Pin a lot of seeds so we have no idea if the mixup occurred at the pollen stage or the seed stage, probably the latter. The Colombian seeds are tiny and nearly black, the Colombian x Nolalu seeds are almost identical. All of the other Colombian crosses I did have larger, paler seeds that are obviously not pure Colombian.

The four live Colombian plants I have now are undoubtedly pure, and I have more pure Colombian seedstock so I can make plenty more pure seeds. I've just sent some to a couple of good guys to grow outdoors in the tropics as well as some f1 hybrids using one of the Colombian males I have so we shall find out more about this line in the near future.

One thing that Pin's grows showed me is that the Colombian hybridises very well and crosses retain the superb taste and flavour, Pin grew the CGx(LRxCG) as well and they had the Colombian qualities evident too so it's all good. I've got a load more pics and bits of info from other people that grew the CG in the past, I'll have to dig em out and post em up.

It looked to me like there was a bit of NL in Pin's pics. There is certainly some indica in those plants. Interesting how the Colombian taste still dominates. That's what you want. The NL5Hz cross did that as well.
It'll be interesting to do a few test matings with this one. I noticed that the Colombians that Snow grew had more resin than I'm used to seeing in a pure sativa. Same line isn't it? We'll have to get a smoke report off him, he does that so well.
The Colombians I grew in the '70s in Holland were all sweet smelling sats. Not particularly good either. I remember those years as the dark ages of weed.
I'm very curious about the smell and taste of this one.
