Cannabis ruderalis in the Czech Republic

Well Ive been reading up on it, specifically in a book by Dr. Michal Miovsky from the Addictology department at the Charles university in Prague. Next time Ill see him Ill ask if he would be so kind as to let me translate it into English, theres a lot of comprehensive information regarding the plant, its history and an immensely comprehensive study of cannabinoids by Dr. Lumir Hanus (discoverer of Anandamide), the small segment refers to the strain Cannabis Sativa spp. spontanea (our rudi) and its phyto - anthropology, it could quite well be the Scythian cannabis of old gone wild and of course mixed through the milennia with other strains, but its quite obviously active so not Texas technical Hemp ditchweed. Considering the enormous Roman settlements in the area, one named Vindibona later became known as Vienna, as well as the use of Scythians as mercenaries we can hope that this is the one they brought from the Hymalayas.

Its a terrible shame to lose that turkish one Nev, Id reackon the climate down there would be somehow able to help the plant retain its THC levels, only sea level elevation poor in UV light would give me concern. It is very much true that going through the endless swaths of rudi you can see marked differences in the look and effect of the plants. Some can quite well be considered "keepers", thick fat plants with a distinct indica look (even though the leaves lean more toward sativa shape), those are the ones I was looking for out there. Try and consider coming to Cannafest here in Prague, I would love it for breeders and caregivers to meet up with Dr. Hanus who will be lecturing with me there, Id love to introduce you to him, I think there could be a lot of beneficial synergy for us sick folks. Thats what Im after, for the scientific community to communicate with us in the underground and I am definitely not at your level of ability so the benefit from discussion between us is limited. Being bilingual I can however help in my own little way.

As far as the effects of the rudi hash is concerned, I would put it on a THC scale of one to ten a solid 2. Its very very weak and many of my "healthy" friends say its little more than relaxing. I on the other hand was quite surprised at the effect it had on the spacticity in my legs, it loosened the knots up at least as well as the high THC strains. So my only real reason for smoking a high THC strain is because I like THC... what about those who dont. What about a Phoenix tears preparation that can be used with no psychoactive effect but a full complement of cannabinoids. I find that an interesting proposition. You can also see that my hands are bandaged in one photo. I tore two fighting dobermans apart and my hands got in the middle (you shoulda seen them tho, they got off a lot worse LOL) but the block of rudi really helped the pain, changed it into something less aggressive.

hope that helped, you can see I really like the topic I guess

Hi pin

Fantastic to hear you have some academic contacts, everything I hear from Czech Rep. these days sounds more and more promising!

When is Cannafest? Myself and my two best friends are planning to come to Prague for our holiday next year, we usually do Amsterdam every year but I'm not able to enter Holland anymore for legal reasons and besides, that place has had it's day, a shadow of it's former glory. We were hoping we could hire you as a tour guide as we have never been to Prague before and don't speak the lingo, so a good guide would be wonderful!

I'd love to visit the Moravian fields too, I guess September would be the right time for that. I'd like to smoke some Rudi hash, see how it works for my anxiety and panic attacks, maybe I can sample some over a glass of beer with ya one day!

I'm saving my pennies already as I didn't get a holiday this year and gods knows I need one!

Hope your hands heal soon, I've had my fair share of dogbites, never much fun!

Hey there,
BH you dont have to hire me my man, Id be happy to show ya around... The Czech republic isnt the same as a´dam in the sense that you can go into a shop and buy weed. You do have to have friends, you smoke your own or what you get from friends.. there are a few dealers hanging around some clubs but I dont go to tourist places so Im unsure where they are... besides, Im growing stuff from your seeds so its natural that you should taste.. too bad I dont have your colombian gold left over. That got smoked in a blur of potsmoking but I had it saved away for ya for at least 2 years waiting for your visit. No matter, theres always something new.
Rudi fields are lots of fun, charras fro your hands is great!
Cannafest is in November, around my Bday. Ive got these contacts because my medical state has been monitored steadily for the past ten years by magnetic resonance as well as my potsmoking, it seems to have brought about a remission that is Visible on the scans. Considering the fact that I am a Canadian citizen as well as a Czech one it also presents a legal conundrum for the authorities. Im using the argument, "if im legal in Canada, how long do I have to wait to be legal here". To a large extent the Czech government looks up to places like Canada and the US, that could work for the Czech legalization mevement. Ill also me meeting Melvyn Lewinski on the fifteenth, hes the INCB (international narcoptrics control board) commisioner visiting to evaluate the loosening of local drug laws so keep your fingers crossed that the UN doesnt invade before you get here.

All sounds good, wish I had made it over earlier, the fiascos I had in moving to Spain then Holland kind of got in the way, but I am definitely coming over next year, hopefully around May or June and if poss will come back in November.

The Colombian I am working on as we speak, I have a male and female that I have just cloned, and several more smaller seedlings, so before long I can make sure you have that line back. I'm making some crosses to, hopefully to the best Dagestani and Mazar-i-Sharif as I have a few of those as seedlings too. Also, with a bit of luck I'll be able to get another cut of the Highland Oaxacan Gold and cross the lumbo to that, should be a very nice cross and the Oaxacan is a huge yielder, bigger than the lumbo which is not small by any means, the Oaxacan puts out a few nanners so I'm hoping I can work it a bit and get rid of that trait. I'm also starting some Purple Thai (Purple Afghan x Thai) seeds and going to cross the best Purple Thai female to the lumbo male early next year. I'll make sure plenty of seeds make it to Prague, I know you lot over there enjoy the lumbo.

At the very least we can make sure you eat and drink heartily while we are in town, I'm really looking forward to visiting, wish I'd made it earlier!

Fantastic news that they have MRI scans that prove the benefits of pot smoking in your case, surely the authorities can't ignore something so concrete, here's hoping the situation continues to improve.

Charas rubbing is something I'd love to do, one day I'll have to come at the right time to try that.

Great to hear bigman, and if you need any seeds do let me know, I still have plenty of yours from before the mashup in spain. The nigerian nightmare and trainwreck collections.
cheers

Ooh, interesting, I'm still hoping to get some of my seeds back, if I don't I'll be in touch!

I have some Dagestani and BB x NLX you sent me vegging now.

Call me the "world bank of seeds" lol. Your strains helped me out of the worst times in my life so the least I can do is get your genes back to you.

Hi Pin,

Thank you for sharing those lovely pictures. I actually felt like I was traveling again, and made me think why I love Europe so much. I remember now, because of people such as yourself.

Canada is great too, but not like Prague, that is for sure...

Peace,

CM

Thanks very much chana and thats exactly what Id say aboot you too my friend, the CR has its deeply ingrained problems but they seem to be disappearing with each new day and as fresh generations grow up.
There is one thing I wouldnt give up and thats spending ten minutes on the subway and stepping out here:

I love the view in the last post. I was wondering. Do you think the rudy that you showed has a fixed flowering period like Lowryder and it's offspring or is it based on light period? Thank you for the post I've been reading it as you update it.

Hey there oscar, hard to say.. I wouldnt even bring up lowryder as its a strain that has been heavily worked to do what it does.. we are talking about a whole feral population of cannabis spread between the czech republic and austria on an area roughly the size of rhode island (If I remember my geography lessons, thats about right). There are only fluctuations in concentrations of plants.
Walking through a particularly dense patch you are confronted with every possible "pheno" of rudi and its almost as if the individual plants arent even relatives, but they are.. The variety is just too wide to say it does this, It does that. Id say this is something to be studied for sure but flowering is definitely time dependant.
But I have to mention that the seeds are particularly tough, like tiny BBs, the shell has to take a hell of a whuppin to crack, I use the freezer at home (Hempire suggested that) then scrape with a nail file and even then they take several seasons to crack.
I would find them popping up in my garden years after I had seeds spill on my patio.

Heres a little chart I found from cannalyze. Maybe this sheds a bit of light on the cannabinoid profile (type 12).

Hi Pin, how are you brother?

I wanted to ask if you have a gps unit. I was thinking that as this hunt that you and your friends go on every harvest season with regard to "wild" cannabis in Czech, maybe you could start logging coordinates of where you take your samples from...

If you get the opportunity to test for Cannabinoids or just through smoking, maybe you will be able to find out particular regions that may have higher ratios... or something that you are looking for! Just a friendly suggestion and not trying to take any fun from your harvest...

Just a though, but I could see you introducing some hybridized cannabis into the mix and over years, those fields becoming AAA smoke.

I can also see you not, and just letting the fields be...

Peace,

Chana

Peace,

terrific idea chana! make some maps based on the profils, could find some correlation between the types and follow their evolution on short period,

cheers

Hi Bonbolos, I think you and I are herb geeks! lol!
Seems that you and I both agree that mapping areas of natural cannabis development is fun...

G`day Pindulinka
Hows it goin bro ? Many years ago I read a story in HT bout a hemp rally in the U.S where the organisers threw thousands of joints to the crowd . When asked how they could afford to provide so much free weed one of the organisers explained that a team had been removing males from wild stands of hemp from the mid west U.S and then pollenating with their own high potency males ,apparently after a few seasons they had bred a wild population of hybrid weed that was a fair to midling smoke that grew wild by the roadside and fieilds . It sounded like a very cool geurilla operation to me . Though I don`t know if it could work in an area as big as Rhode Island ,and may not be a good thing re genetic diversity though it could be a fun experiment . Food for thought eh ?
Thanks for sharin

It would definitely be very useful, ive heard tell of enormous chemical variations in individual plants based on the geography of their growth. It would be very useful even as a summer project for a student out here, Ive got mobility problems so getting the plants deep in a field is like storming Gallipoli for me .
Im not so sure about introducing foreign pollen into these fields, its like the pot of our forefathers out here. They were vicious murderous bastards so maybe our hippie pot has a more beneficial effect on society out here LOL. But in-house crosses have been attempted mainly leading to bunk. I have had the chance of growing this as sinsemilla but that was pretty reedy stuff, youd have to grow out a hundred to find a keeper to work with. Seems that each obne is completely different.

hi all

I would go into these type of plants for traits such as vigor, resistance to pests and diseases maybe and hardiness especially not really into trichoms prod.

but I agree with you pin, I don't think introducing a non endemic type in the area is really interesting in gene conservation, nevertheless, you still have loads of plants, so you could think even the alleles with low freq would be kept.

an other idea I had after thinking about what chana said, I thaught it would be interesting to do some samplings all along the Silk Road, which is for me a major axis of hemp difusion. after some DNA and biochemist analysis this could lead to some nice correlations between the various accessions all along the road...

cheers

Bonjour bobolos,

It would seem, if one could get the proper funding this would be a valid scientific research project Rudi and the silk road. This site blows me away when it comes to thoughts that we can spark from one another...

I really believe that we are lucky to be associated with cannabis. All of us here are light years ahead with regard to the evolution of such an ancient practice, at least for the most part. The process of cultivation and preservation. If one were to compare to any other science or practice, we are far superior imho, academic professional, we do not lack the actual practice because most of us are or were at one time or another cultivating a plant which is restricted.

When I think about professors and doctors trying to work on cannabis, I humbly smile, as for the most part, we have been doing this for many years with out the large grants and government approvals.

We just got to figure out how to use our research as valid. I have contacted many a doctor, and I never get any love. They usually get scared when I tell them I grow medical marijuana and am interested in formally studying my practice with the help of scholars... 99% of the time they dont even respond. I guess, even in medical school common courtesy and correspondence drafting is forgotten in the curriculum. Starts me thinking about bedside manner or the hippocratic oath... somebody call Patch Adams and see if he is down for some smoke reports... but one thing that does us no good is all this bickering amongst ourselves. I can only imagine a doctor lurking on our boards and then getting to post no. 5 and the trash talking ruins the whole thought...

I reposted a fun link on Seed Dispersal;

http://www2.bgfl.org/bgfl2/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks2/science/plants_pt2/animal.htm

I agree with you Pin about introducing hybrid cannabis to Rudi but if you ever decide to do it, maybe you would consider the types of animals that would eat cannabis seed in your region.

It think that if you focused on the animal that would be doing most of the sowing and then place the hybridized seeds closer to their borrows or nest, the process in theory could be sped up...

Still very interesting and it will be nice to see more people take time maybe mark various areas in the world that naturally occurring cannabis can be found. Many countries already have preserves for various woodland, flora and animals that are somewhat unpolluted from the "modern world".

I hope we can get there with cannabis one day.

All this fem and gmo talk is really what it is not about. I am glad you guys feel the same way.

Sorry for rambling.

Take care,

CM
