1985 seed bank catalog

ITS clear n BH said his piece to us n Nevil ,Forgive but dont forget

We really need more unity in the Mns community

Lets get back to topic

I recall the RCC quoted piece/article were there were dates aswell but cant find it ATM.

i these this quote below From SAMS speaks volumes ,take it how you wish

But anyway as I said before, the Haze brothers did not make or use clones, so if any Original Haze clones are out there 30 years old they are not from the Haze brothers
that is for sure
SamS

I use haze females , and I do have a few Haze males that I selected from hundreds of males , after testing their progeny first

above quote IMO Not done in cali n not done before 76,how was progeny tested n saved if there were no clones ;)

All of the S Indian and Thai crosses were toward the end of Haze production. Not only males were used for crosses. The 3 year timeline was just someones dream , Haze was grown for over 10years by the haze bros , Sacred seeds tried to stabilize Haze with mixed results. The quality dropped considerably. The problem is that the best Hazes were F1s Hybrids , and Haze stabilization can not be done without a loss of vigor

I bet that JessE is right when he says that the cat. of Sacred Seeds published in 1981 in HT is a fictional one.

Clarke stated that the first Sacred Seeds cat. was published in 1980 and only offered Sk#1, Afgh#1, Hindu Kush and Original Haze.

The next catalog Clarke mentions is the Cultivator's Choice cat. from 1985.

No other catalogs between those two dates...

There are pictures of Sacred Seeds seed packets in High Times, I don't remember the dates now. One is in the Best of HT book and is a colour picture of a Hindu Kush packet.

I always thought that advert was fictional, if you read the article that accompanies it, there is no address listed to order the seeds from. This would make it the only advert in the magazine without an address.

Rob Clarke wrote the article according to Sam. That would make the mysterious 'R' of HT fame Rob Clarke which I always suyspected as the writing style is the same.

There is some evidence of seedbanks prior to 1981, there is the Exotica Seeds T-shirt from 1980 that notes 'nearly a decade of experience' and the Orange Spice T-shirt from 1978. I have yet to see any further info about Exotica Seeds however.

edit- picture appears in Book 2 , not published until 1983 .

Thankyou. I don't have either book but an old friend has an extensive library of cannabis books and I've spent many an afternoon sat leafing through them. I remember the picture well but got mixed up about where I saw it. I think this is the pic that is in the HT book:

No it is from the Greetings from Cali article.

Hope this helps.

Yes, but wasn't that article in HT?

The HT book is just a compilation of articles from the first 6 or 7 years of HT.

I haven't, been busy doing other things. Earlier in this thread there are a load of quotes from Sam that dispute what RCC said about Haze being developed over three years. Sam has given contradictory information about the dates so I don't put much faith in the timelines either he or RCC have written about. Then there is the further contradiction of the dates written on the bags the Haze seeds Sam sold to Nevil were in, they are earlier than 1971.

I tried to research the origins of the term 'Haze' as applied to pot and the evidence is hard to find. Sam has posted a Haze poster from 1976 at icmag a few days ago:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=4179206&postcount=927

But earlier than 1976 it's the words of Sam and RCC that form most of the references to Haze and their words are to be taken with a liberal pinch of salt.

Jimi Hendrix wrote the song 'Purple Haze' in late 1966 in London. He performed it for the first time on US soil at the Monterrey Festival in California in 1967. Purple Haze was one of the biggest hits of that year and was played all the time on the radio during that 'Summer of Love'. The song inspired Owsley Stanley to name one of his acid batches 'Purple Haze'. Hendrix said he was inspired to write the song by a dream where he was walking under the sea. In the dream, he said a purple haze surrounded him, engulfed him and got him lost. It was a traumatic experience, but in his dream his faith in Jesus saved him.

But where did Jimi first hear the term 'Haze'? He could have just picked the word out of the ether I suppose but I doubt it.

I think the term 'Haze' entered popular culture durign the Vietnam War in the 1960s. There is a book called Red Haze: Australians and New Zealanders in Vietnam that I am trying to find a copy of in the UK:

black dog books | books | Red Haze: Australians and New Zealanders in Vietnam by Leon Davidson

There are a few references to the term Haze or Hazed from the 63-69 period of the Vietnam War, for instance, Purple Haze was what Viet Nam vets called the Purple Heart medal, since after you were wounded, they gave you morphene and you entered the 'Purple Haze' with a medal pinend to your bedsheets.

Also, Hanoi and most of Vietnam is almost perpetually covered in Haze (the atmospheric condition):

Another reference to Purple Haze I found was that it’s a slang term for the M-18 violet smoke hand grenade used by United States armed forces during the Vietnam War:

Nearly every soldier carried one or two of them hanging off the front of his webbing:

There is a book called 'The drug hazed war in Southeast Asia' by Jay Dee Rubal I'm trying to find too, it's 50ukp used on Amazon so I need to find a cheaper copy.

Anyways, I think it's pretty definite that the terms 'Haze' and 'Purple Haze' were already in popular culture well before 1971 and whatever Sam and RCC and those probably mythical Haze Bros were doing in Corralitos in the early 70s.

I don't think it's possible to trace back exactly when people first starting using the term Haze in reference to pot, Hendrix wrote the song in 66 but where did he take the term? He was a soldier in the US Army so he could have heard the term from a wounded vet in reference to his Purple Heart medal or the one about the smoke greanades which he would have been familiar with as they are used extensively in basic training. The US first got involved in Vietnam in 56 so I think the closest we can get is to say that sometime between 1956 and 1966 the terms Haze and Purple Haze entered popular culture and at some point in those years it came to be applied to pot.

I don't know when the shipments of Thai weed to the US started, probably it began with the odd few pounds of sticks brought back by returning soldiers. Nevil reckons the heart of the Haze he knows is a Thai and I don't see it as much of a stretch to imagine returning wounded Vietnam vets dropping out and going to live in the hills of Cali and planting the seeds from the sticks they brought home.

Who knows, but I am sure people were calling pot Haze long before 1971.

Wow this is laborious...

HAVE YOU FOUND CLARKE'S REFERENCE ?

Peace.

K.

No, like I said earlier, I've given up because Sam and RCC have given several contradictory dates and this was discussed in depth here at MNS ages ago, one example being in the Grail thread. Sam has disputed RCC's account of the 3 year evelopment anyways, look at page 12 of the Grail thread, l33t, bigherb and Jesse discuss it in detail.

Clarke never gave any contradictory dates.

Sam did...

Do your homework.

Peace.

I really have to explain you everything...

The Haze was originally created in the late 60's to early 70's...

Sam worked with it since the middle of the 70's: he crossed the old Haze with Thaï and South Indian...

Got it ?

Peace.

I'm sorry but you misunderstood what I said. The dates given by RCC contradict those given by Sam. Sam has given all kinds of dates at different times as you did a good job of pointing out back on page 38 of this thread:

http://www.mrnice.nl/forum/4-talk-s...pport/4345-grail-ultimate-haze-hybrid-38.html

I can't be bothered trying to piece together all the pieces of info Sam posted under his multiple handles at different forums. I did it once 2-3 years ago and lost the research and from what I learnt the first time round I know it's not worth doing again as the conclusion you are left with is that he is generally contradictory and a clear picture cannot be discerned.

That is for sure, even Sam acknowledged that 69 Haze seeds existed at Icmag...

Just ask L33t.

Peace.

K.

I remember the thread, I posted in it at the time. Sam said the first homegrown he smoked was 68 in Laguna Beach, and he also said the first time he smoked Haze was 71. Perhaps in the latter case he was referring to the first crop grown by the Haze Bros in Corralitos? That's if the Haze Bros existed and weren't him and RCC.

Years ago I went back and read everything Sam had posted that I could find and it basically boils down to whether you chose to believe the story his and RCC tell about the Haze bros living in Corralitos near Santa Cruz and developing Haze under glass in the early 70s and that Sam lived next door to one of them and contributed the Thai and South Indian that went into Haze.

Maybe the Colombian/Mexican that the Haze Bros supposedly began with was Haze and they crossed it to Sam's Thais and Indians to make the version of Haze that Sam worked with later. Sam sold the last of the Mexican/Colombian Haze from before the Haze Bros crosses to Nev and that's why Nev's bags had dates prior to 1971 on them?

See, trying to make sense out of the words of a guy who probably isn't honest is a pretty unrewarding pursuit. I did it once and gave up in the end because it's almost impossible to find evidence to support or deny the stories Sam and RCC tell.
