Nev, just satisfy my curiosity but is that Ben Dronkers' arms holding the Black Domina? That's an awful jumper and I've seen Ben wearing some awful jumpers.

I always wondered why that plant was being held up like that, I guess it was a bit floppy.

Just one of the staff. If I remember rightly, it was one of a dozen or so females grown from seed and packed together fairly tightly. Taken out of the group, it needed support. They were mostly one main bud, a bit like the maternal grand father NL1.

I had a lovely Black dom couple of years, it was extremely orangey tasting and smelling, wasn't the most potent but the yield was good and the taste made it worth keeping. No idea if it was an original as I got it as a cutting, it would produce the odd male nanner at 9 weeks of flo but was done in 10 so it was never an issue. That nanner thing made me wonder if it was grown from one of the Black Dom fems a few of the Spanish banks sell.

Selgnij backwards is jingles and we know that's a nickname Sam uses.

Can't believe I didn't spot that earlier.

So Ed R definitely lied when he said he didn't work with Sam.

Ed was one the first to 'out' the Skunkman by using his real name in one of the Big Book of Buds some years back. I have also seen Ed's face turn to a scowl when asked about the Skunkman, so it's fairly certain there's some sort of bad blood there.

I'll try to post scans the Seed Bank catalogs I have that aren't here yet and couple of other interesting historical documents, when I've got some time over the next few days...

Ed denied working with Sam but we know that it was Ed who accompanied Sam to Holland and introduced him to people as Dave Watson.

Ed is a wierd character, several people have told me they think he's a bit mad, certainly dressing up in a green superhero suit as 'Can Man' was strange behaviour.

I can't imagine that Sam and Ed worked together and I've never heard of such a thing and I know Ed pretty well. He's slightly mad and his avaricious nature makes him extremely difficult to work with and the idea of slapping him now and again does enter your mind, but I don't have any kind of evidence to suggest that he's some kind of traitor to the cause, far from it. He is extremely passionate about cannabis and his book with Mel Frank (who I've never met) put most of us on the right track.

Phew glad to hear Ed has clearance !
Between Ed and RC Clarke I was able to improve my grows 100% ,from the info I gleaned from Ask Ed to his grow books the standard of Erb rose dramatically .
I sent my girl down to the city on a mission to buy a copy of one of Ed`s books and she returned with MJ botany so... I read it from cover to cover but most of it went over my head !
A cpl of years later I was able to get my hands on some HT mags and an Ed Rosenthal grow guide ,thats when the pennies dropped , A lot of the local info re growing MJ was bullshit ! And I began to gain a better understanding of Cannabis .
I have mixed emotions these days re RC Clarke ,but it should be aknowledged the information he spread was invaluable to the Canna culture .And he talked about patents and multinational industry control of Canna in the intro to the book so ...
I once read an Ed article in HT where he visited Nimbin for Mardi Grass ,it was an inspiration to guerilla growers everywhere .
Oh and thank goodness for google search some of these words you folks use ,I need a dictionary to decifer ;avaricious nature = itchy palms so the Oxford says .

I believe this arm to belong to Alan dronkers, one of the son who was one of sensi's main breeder (I believe after Nev left).

he is now living a nice life in Malaysia just like his farther

Yes, I recall that 'outing'; at the time people were split - some thought Ed made a slip of the pen, others thought he must have done it spitefully.

Love to see whatever scans you can provide Jim, your previous post of old stuff was brilliantly illuminating!

It's mentioned in Frank Bovenkerk's book that Ed brought Sam to Holland in 1985:

The De tijd article about Sam doesn't mention Ed Rosenthal but it talks about another American called Michael Taylor, AKA Michael Rich, apparently he was living in Holland before Sam arrived and he was the one who told Wernard Bruining and the other guys around at the time about Sam the 'super grower' and got them to invite him to Holland to impart his knowledge (and bring seeds). I've never heard anything else about this Michael Taylor, the De Tijd article is the only time I've seen him mentioned.

'Old Ed' was Ed Holloway (RIP); a hippie from Oregon. He moved to Holland in 1979 and worked with Kees Hoekert and Wernard Bruining to setup 'The Green Team' that did outdoor grows. He worked with Kees, Wernard and Peter at Positronics and was their guru really, he could be found hanging around at Positronics throughout the 80s. There is a tribute website about him here:

Wernard wrote an intro in English:

In 1979, Old Ed came from Oregon USA to the Netherlands. He brought us his knowledge of 'Sinsemilla' horticulture ánd his seeds.

For 5 years he lived in my house and I felt blessed in his pressence. For me he was send by God. He tought me to smoke pure, grow organicly and communicate with the plants.

His seeds were the first in Europe to be commercialized by the Amsterdam Lowlands Seed Company (1980-1984). That was the start of Eurocannabis.

He was a dedicated opponent of the anti-cannabis laws and saw that it was an almost moral obligation to break them.

During the years he returned to Europe a few times and made many new friends.
We will always remain grateful for his gift to the mellow people in Europe.

Please sign his register, so his children and grandchildren can appriciate what their father and grandfather meant to us.

Others have said the same thing to me about Ed - that he's a good and passionate guy who can be the most frustrating guy in the world to work with. I suspect he got used by Sam and the others and has spent many years since distancing himself from them and focussing on his own work.

I've often wodered why Old Ed is pretty much forgotten, Wernard wrote he brought seeds, I wonder what they were and why we never hear about any strains derived from them? I'm sure some of the Positronics strains must owe something to Old Ed's seeds but good knows what, Wernard will have these answers I suppose.

In 1984 the Green team had a turnover of several hundred kilograms per year and it was time for expansion. We sent a ticket to two promising Americans, Ed Rosenthal, writer of the Bible and ancient weed a man named Sam Skunkman. This Sam promised such tremendous benefits to the harvest and he developed new kind of skunk that we called him the miracle man. This year we first grew in a greenhouse Skunk like the picture below.

When I was forced to sell the weed Skunk literally out of our hands. Consumers were very enthusiastic about the beautiful red mountains and ditches Nederweed in their hearts. Sam was right! Its kind made in cultivation in the greenhouse and under artificial light as possible. The wheel so hard that we had gotten started on the run now with tremendous speed rotating. Everything was suddenly possible.

There were many characters who show up to the Green team also wanted to participate and thereby did not hesitate to use their elbows. There was talk of a large network of banks and the money was more important.

I knew Wernard. He told me that Sam lived with him when he first came from the States. I understand that it was a traumatic experience for him. I'm sure he has still got PTSD if you know what I mean. Wernard and I had different philosophies, his was shall we say parochial. He mouthed off about me in one or two of the popular magazines and for a while I was planning to punch him in the guts, but I never saw him again. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then.
