Ive known him for mm a long time , many years ,,
and tom is a gentleman and a scholar .
I wouldnt care who he voted for really ..
I believe most got the wrong point of view from a few post he made here , take a look for yourself at the other site , you dont need to believe me at all , he conducts himself online like a gentleman ,
im no where near as patient and forgiving . hehehe
I used to really like Tom because, as you say, he always conducted himself like a gentleman, even in the face of trolling.
Only things that have made me question my original impression of the guy have been two recent incidents. First was when Tom tore into docleaf. Now, I hate docleaf personally, think he's a saddo and full of shit, but I was surprised at how Tom tore into him and Tom was very good at being nasty and sarcastic. I was surprised to see such words from Tom, they didn't seem to fit with the way he used to act.
Then there was the Marco Apology thread on icmag, Tom went off on one in that thread and was really going off about how hurt Sam must have been by the whole thing and calling for compensation etc.
I've also had my disagreements with some of the things he's said about his Haze but they were minor.
I don't know Tom personally but like bushweed says, his politics would seem to be rather opposed to my own and in support of Sam. I'm not gonna judge the guy based on his cheerleading for Sam but it did cause me to reconsider my opinion of Tom somewhat.
takes ages to have a conversation online doesnt it ,, lol ..
so yea ,, kangas prolly using roo shit on them (secretly) , so its no doubt good shit ,, hehehe ...
did anyone grow mm indoors and see what they got compared to kangas plants ?
i bet its a far cry from the outdoor version ....
i tried ducksfoot indoors on several occasions ,, and many have , heaps of plants , found the odd one that wasnt too bad indoors ,, but compared to the outdoors we had , the flavour just wasnt there , the chunk ,so many desireable traits that were there just didnt present in the indoor environment..
it just was not worth growing indoor , but outdoor , just lovely ...
Some plants just won't work indoors no matter what you do with them. I have spent a lot of time, money and effort on all types of supplemental lighting to try to get tropical plants to mature indoors and some can be coaxed into a good expression, some can't.
Imho HPS lights on their own are not of much use for finishing a tropical plant, you need to supplement with blue spectrum lighting. 10k Actinic type fluoro tubes that have a peak output around 420nm definitely help with tropical plants, they are less stretchy, fill in more and produce more terpenoids. 6400k cool whites are also worth using as they put out plenty of blue but the 10ks are better.
On the UV thing, UVA is bad for plants imho, it causes premature aging of the resin heads, they go brown under high UVA exposure long before they are mature and it is a brown colour, not the amber you see when it matures. UVA also causes plants to produce more of the carotenoid type terpenoids and these have red and yellow colours so the flowers under high UVA exposure will turn a deep purple as they now contain not only chlorophylls which are green but also carotenoids which are red and this gives an overall purple appearance.
UVB on the other hand has been shown to stimulate THC production, Mechoulam demonstrated that UVB could turn CBD acids into THC acids in a lab environment and there are other studies on the effects of UVB on live plants that shows some benefit. I forget the names of the authors now.
Apart from a couple of expensive Phillips medical tubes, all UV fluoros put out many times more UVA than UVB. The reptile types are no good, not enough UVB and lots of UVA, same with tanning tubes.
I still need to do more experiments but so far I can definitely say blue light in the 400-450nm range is way more beneficial to plants than UVA in the 350-400nm range and UVA has negative effects. When I have the money to buy a medical tube I'll experiement with UVB, so far I've only tried UVB in conjunction with lots of UVA.
Some pics of some of my experimental lighting setups and an Oaxacan that turned purple and had brown damaged trichomes from too much UVA.
