EARLY QUEEN: hangin with the queens

when it rains, it pours

hey hey. ..so yeah, a 3 way she b, with 2 of the parental lines having been developed specifically for an early outdoor finish.. and the hardiness to withstand inclement weather..

Early Pearl
(Outdoor)

Early Pearl has always been one of our most popular outdoor varieties. Wonderfully sweet and resinous, the plants have a mostly Sativa dominated growth pattern, with excellent potency. Very mold resistant, even during the worst season.
Finishing: end of Sept.
Height: 2-3 m.
Yield: up to 400 gr.
Art.nr.336 - fl.100.00

it is my understanding that the early pearl is of note to breeders for this very reason, fixing her mold resistance to a line.., that and an earlier finish.. here's a good example -

Early Skunk
(Outdoor)

An excellent hybrid between Skunk #1 and Early Pearl. Outdoor growers are ususally dissatisfied with the finishing date of the regular Skunk strain. The Early Skunk finishes about 2 weeks earlier than Skunk #1 due to the influence of the Early Pearl. The influence of the latter is also noticeable in the smell and the high: sweet and smooth. On top of that: the strain combines a good yield with mold resistance.
Finishing date: Oct. 1
Height: 2-3 m.
Yield: up to 500 gr.
Art.nr.2302 - fl.60.00

finding and fixing traits, that b the job of a breeder.. and i guess early pearlfound her niche...,,

Good stuff jondo, seems I can stop worrying about the wet weather they say we can expect right through Autumn.

Love the look of your eQ#2, looking forward to seeing how it looks in about a fortnight.

Meanwhile, things are going a bit unexpected in my plot. My White Widows have started to flower but there's nothing happening with the EQ's. This made me wonder whether I stuffed up with the labeling so have I been posting WW pics on an EQ thread? Huge blunder if this is the case.

However, Mr Nice Seeds has this to say about the EQ flowering period: Expect flowering time indoor of 42-56 days. In the North/hemisphere September and in the South/hemisphere March to April. So if they flowered for 56 days and finished at let's say the end of March or early April they would not be flowering yet.

On the other hand, the White Widow site says this: Harvest month : begin September in the Northern Hemisphere which would make it March down here and the flowering time is stated as being 8 weeks. So to finish in March after flowering for 8 weeks they might well be starting to flower about now. Of course one has to ask how much we can rely on these kind of claims but a doubt has seeped into the old brain, haha.

I think I can assume that the EQ will finish in less time overall once it begins flowering so that is one thing that may determine whether I have in fact made a major blunder.

Anyway, I can either post pics of both lots of plants in a week or so when the plants I have posted pics of begin to flower or slink off and avoid polluting your thread with this confusion. It's your call.

I can top that :) Nothing to do with Queens but anyway. Went for a ride with my dog today and just missed running over the head of a fair sized Tiger snake by an inch. Just missed one last week too, but this guy scooted to the side of the trail and then lay still, playing possum. Since I had my camera I figured I'd get a few pics but couldn't see his head as it was hidden by a tuft of grass, so I got to within a foot of his tail and stamped my foot but the bugger still wouldn't move. Then that idiot inner voice of mine that's nearly got me killed on many occasions comes up with the bright idea of dropping a stick next to its head, to get it to move and then snap that award winning pic, LOL, I kid you not. Just as I leant over and dropped the stick my dumb dog decides this must be a game and launches at the stick from behind me, nearly landing on the snake and causing a major freakout. The snake reared up right over the dogs head, time froze for a sec, the dog and me transfixed in one of those wtf moments, the snake probably trying to work out which idiot to bite first  Anyway, the moment passed and we all bolted in different directions, so it was a happy ending, except I didn't get the shot. 10 minutes later I nearly ran over another Tiger which then exploded across the track right in front of my front tire. Never seen so many snakes as this year, so any people tramping through the bush in Sth East Oz should step lightly.

Haha, thanks for that Harry. Your post might have had nothing to do with growing pot but it seems you are trying to lighten my load of possible stupidity. The deathly silence from other contributors might indicate that you are alone in sympathy for my lot, but that's OK. I'm old enough not to be too bothered when accused of being a silly old bugger and still might have not been in error, stranger things have happened.

The question in my mind is whether a fast finisher like Early Queen has to commence flowering before a White Widow that takes longer to get to harvest stage. Anyone?

Flower onset

Hello minarvi, harry... thanks for droppin' by:D

In my opinion you are right to see the WW flower first(longer flower time same end date) EQ will hold out a while longer but probably a few weeks at very most. I would think anyhow, however i am in the north so...

Key words being 'end date'. Plants are very sensative to their eviroment so i assume both WW and EQ are 'planning' to ripen around the same time. My 2 cents... Hope it helped, Keep the pics comin'! Nice to see an outdoor grow in the winter!

Peace:D

P.S.-harry, funny tale you have there LOL! Thats why i love growing outdoors!!! All the interactions one will encounter....LMAO!

Yeah IBF, that's what I'm hoping is the case but as my early finishers in the past also were the first to flower I put myself into a bit of a panic.

So thanks for replying and I guess I'll delay ripping up my grower's license for the time being.

Second guess...

I second guess myself all the time, no worries, happy farming:D

Its great to have an 'old school' perspective. I grew up around that stuff, when things were more... well thats complicated. Anyway glad we made it here.

Keep us posted on how things are turning out...

Peace:D

apparently the EQ's take longer to start flowering outside

inside i see them flowering under a week

ive got a nice mom im about to abuse and take about to take 40 clones from hehe :D

'NICE'

Bring it on BB, blow this baby up!!! Lets see the 'Queen'...

Cant wait for a real show with this gal... Ive got 'HIGH' hopes for EQ! She's a suitor. . .

JJ-Seems to be a month from harvest, i'm 2... drop some info. on us... pheno-wise is where im curious.

hey minarvi, nothing but love here! so don't nobody trip! besides, even if they turn out not to b eQ's, it'll b a good laugh for all! and i take my laughs wherever i can..

with regards to your question on flowering and harvest times, i don't think there's a mandated correlation between the 2 ..as we all have seen, plants are very individual, some varierties crawl thru seedling stage, then just boom.. and when it comes to budding, well they all want to do it their own way! some feature a bud growth rate that stays fairly constant, others, pack it on in the last 2 weeks... some flower in waves, some ripen unevenly.. well, u see what i'm gettin at.. so that b my stabbed guess at your question, brother!

hope that helps bring u closer to the answer ur looking 4.. cheers friends. .. . jj

yoyo jo,

you know lately coming to mns has been a bit shit as all I read the whole time is fighting and arguing so it makes spending time here real shit but its nice to see some people like you and I and probably a few others who just stay under the radar and keep plugging away with our grows.

Hows your cross coming along? I would love to see some pictures sometime.

I hope when things return back to normal the vibes round mr.nice will return too..

Be well my friend,
Doobz

nice like this.

*cheers for the show of hands, HHHG!.!
*40 eQ cuts, B B1tch1n.. you'd want a dependable truck!! awesome.

*long shot from last pic, for a clearer perspective. (post#41, when it rains it pours)

p.s. hey fun, thanks for holdin down the fort! man those seedlings of yours look mad!, all in formation and all! they're lookin real consistant too.
- so r they just in potting mix plus a few amendments?, and what u gonna feed 'em ?

Seedlings

JJ, no problem buddy. Yeah they really took off after a transplant, they have nearly doubled in size since that last pic! Yes they are very uniform, especially in leaf shape, they are kind of all over the place in height compared to the last pic. They are nearly all identified for sex, looks like 8 males and 7 females but im not 100% posotive on a few yet. I was thinkin' of posting a pic of all the males in a row and same for females to show height and branching ranges before i take cuts. Might be a cool reference...

As for the soil it is a standard potting mix amended with earthworm castings and some guanos(I got a kit containing various bat guanos and seabird). Im thinking im going to do a water soluable bloom/micro havent made my decision yet. Any recomendations? Ive used advanced before and had good results but kinda spendy...

Peace:D

yeah, u gotta! lookin at them seedlings, all i could is 'damn, i 'd like 2 C them now.'

regarding workin with potting mix/amendments, wrong person! my 1st 3 plants were grown in pottting mix, when they were about 6 weeks old, i got given more bagseed- 1st thing i did was look up 'hydro' in the yellow pages!

shame, tho.. i drool over the organic pics i see.. i'm waiting on subcool's book from amazon US for that very reason.

well, i guess i'll start learning starting now!
