GDP

Tastes and smells like Lemon Grape. Very strong. Very Narcotic. Short stocky plants. dence gooey dark purple buds. They purple without any help. Ours got down to about 55 degrees at night and it helped. I think I made some crosses with the GDP clone.

I have some experience with that one Dr.. A friend of mine did some of it outdoors, N. Cali, a few years back, it was ready in the first week of October. Does not like cold, but damn, was it purple. I am not much of a fan of purple, generally, but Grandaddy is some of the best purple I've had, better than the Purple Urkle, in my opinion, the next best purp I have tried(outside the old school mendo strains). That's a good description you gave. I would describe the high as overwhelmingly indica, very debilitating, and the buds were quite dense, and the flavor a bit harsh, kind of leaning towards expando lung crunch.

beautifully grown GDP-but better than purple urkel?
come on-the urkel has a strong up soothing buzz that is sativaish in nature
GDP is just big bud strength at best with beautiful flowers-does fantastic in hydro so i can see the appeal for cash croppers-not connoisseur strength or character if buzz imo

GDP and Urkle are both great strains. Recently I got
my hands on some Purple Daddy Kush. Devastating!

It's the best "purple" I've ever found.

Anyone kno what it is?

Um, well, I generally prefer a sativa type high, but like most of the purple I have smoked, I found the purple urkle to be, well, weak.

Its a shame that in N. Cali so many people seem to think "Connoisseur", and "sativa" is synonymous with weak bud. A good sativa is actually more potent, than the strongest indica.

Although it is far from the strongest indica I have ever smoked, at least grand daddy purple had a high that I could really feel.

Well I don't know, but if it has "Purple Kush" in it. Then it is an OG kush cross.
I have never smoked OG Kush, or Purple Kush, but have heard that tet are very potent.

Here she is. Small, compact, purple green buds.

Tastes like Purp. Hits like BlackberryOG.

Purple Kush x GDP perhaps hmm?

Truly amazin' canabis.

That's not necessarily true. There has been a Purple Kush cutting that's been around in California for at least a decade (made famous by Kyle Kushman) that bears no relation to OG Kush. If rumors are to be believed, it's the same genetic as Purple Urple/Urkle/Erkle. Personally having grown "Mendo Purps", Urkle, GDP and Purple Kush over the years, they are all more or less the same thing (and they are more than likely the *exact* same thing, with the exception of GDP, which has Big Bud thrown in the mix), some of them yielding better than others.

Personally, except for the pleasant incense-like flavor and the eye-popping colors, I find the high of most Purples & their progeny to be bland, flat and uninspiring-- altogether too indica for my liking.

.

My understanding is, Thats not just big bud thrown in the mix. Thats Salmon Creek Big Bud. Big difference. Most big buds are duds. SCBB is top shelf snob weed

mr. jim dankness has hit on my big complaint about the purps, namely potency and flavor, and it seems at least one of these two is usually missing? the purps i have seen in recent history are absolutely some of most photogenic flowers found today and often they exude an aroma that is almost grapey but not quite. so the trick is to find the purp that is hitting on all cylinders and it is out there, in fact a friend advised me that it isn't even that hard to find anymore? peace-biteme

If one is searching for the origins of Haze, my take is that it was primarily built on a foundation of elite Mexican genetics with perhaps some subtle Columbian and Thai influences. This based on nothing more than the look the growth, but more than anything else the smell and taste and buzz of Haze vs. those old Mexican elites. To me the chemotypes are eerily similar.

Those highest quality Mexican varieties were variously marketed as AG or Oaxacan or Michoacan primarily but who knows their actual provenances. They were available in those areas of Mexico at the time but were never common anywhere. And who knows where the Mexican farmers got their genetic stock? I've heard Thailand postulated but high grade Mexican never tasted much like Thai to me. Hazes still carry the distinctive smell of '60s-'70s AG and elite Michoacan and to a lesser degree Oaxacan which was commonly a bit different with larger calyxes and a distinct balck pepper nose.

I have no idea where one would turn today to find the ancestors of those elite Mexican lines. They may still be grown locally but I'd be surprised if they haven't been supplanted by quicker maturing generic drug polyhybrids as I image the profit potential is much higher for those.

The pisser is I threw away thousands- shit tens of thousands- of those very seeds back then and so did everyone else.

Somebody must have a bunch of these old beans stashed away somewhere? Getting 25 year old stock to germ might be a bit of an issue. But even if you only got 1% germ rate, that could be enough.

Makes me think of the story of Nevil getting the Haze seeds from Sam. It crossed my mind Sam may have thought he was passing off old unviable seed on Nevil? He got only a very few to go, I'm not sure how many beans he started with? But I think it was in the hundreds. In any case, I'm sure glad Nevil ended up with em, so he could share with everybody. :)

No one to my knowledge has yet suggested the trinity
it is held from N. Cali to Wa and is easily top 3 in the haze effects-maybe a bit too rushy-headful of L at time so its hard to truly judge
not really passed around and mostly held by older heads who don't even use the internets

sidenote about Haze

Someone mentioned to Me that Humboldt Local holds an acid pheno of the Original haze. I didnt confirm this with Him, but I remember that He is friends with Tom Hill, so Its probably likely. Tom got his seed from positronics, who got them from Sam.

My kids are up in Humboldt working as trimmers, and making enormous amounts of hash. The pay is real good

Haze/Sativa Breeding run

Alright . Heres where We are at now. I just set up this tent for the Haze, and put them in there today. They have been under CFL and T5, and a 250 Halide.
Theyre under a 1000 watt sodium now. There are some Neville Haze plants in there. Hoping for males. Got alot of great strains in this mix.

DR. P!!! nice tents man, going to be running my first one here real quick, cant wait! Do you prefer them to the traditional room?

The headband 707 has been grown around here for quite a while and is very very weak compared to the loompa's version of headband... almost no comparison - what was crossed into the 707 to make it "headbanger'? SOrry had to interject, i miss this thread!
