Mmm - just sampled some of Hempy's Mango - top notch Hempy:D. Strong, clear and subtle - takes you up and keeps you there a long time. Definitely comparable to the Mullum Madness crosses in basic strength, with a clearer high, but with less colorful trippyness. Less noise, but less soaring - I'm not liable to be issuing any of my more elliptical posts on the Mango.

So in my estimation the Mango Haze is up there with the good stuff I've been smoking of Kanga's, with room for improvement in the areas of; warmth & colour to ameliorate the strong high; and the taste had surprisingly little flavour.

As such Mango Haze x Oaxacan springs to mind.

Here's another bud of Kanga's, which may be Mullum Mendo Girl x Oaxacan (needs verification), but this stuff absolutely reeks of Mango. I hope you get to try one day.

I'd also cross an MM hybrid to the Oaxacan just to compare to Oaxacan x Mango Haze. The MM hybrids are by no means stronger than the Mango Haze and possibly not as balanced, but are tastier and more euphoric. This might also provide a broader genetic profile to cross to the NH so there's no double up on the NL, HzA or HzC. Just my 2 bob.

Barney's Grail

they call it Tangerine Dream. at its foundation, TD uses the Nevil's Haze along with two other strains a worker told me.

TD won the Cannabis Cup but i liked Barney's Nevil's Haze a lot better. TD is chunky and has more Indica in it than Nevil's. all of Barney's buds this year that i witnessed were expertly grown: just beautiful. i kept going back and getting more Nevil's because the "high" was better than anything else. Barney's Dr. Grinspoon cost 2 Euros more than Nevil's but was not as strong or interesting.

i did not smoke any TD in a joint that i know of but did take 50 - 75 vapor hits of this strain and judged it based on its "high", it didn't really cut through the Nevil's of which i was smoking spliffs.

Greenhouse's Nevil's looked nothing like Barney's and i did not buy any. overall, Greenhouse seems to be declining while Barney's is thriving. i did buy the Super Lemon Haze to check it out as reports were that it was very strong. to me it was cough weed of a wrong sort: unflushed buds that produced black ash. i was coughing without getting higher, bad weed, discarded it.

What a fantastic read/history, and great vibes throughout. Sign me up for large-scale progeny testing! Only in my wildest haze dreams have I hoped for an open-source approach to breeding; thanks to Neville for sharing his dream and having the selflessness to approach it in this way--always the sign of a good soul seeking balance.

RE: the Neville's Haze male. Is this something that has already been selected? If not, what initial screening criteria should be used? Leathery smell, resinous stems, ... ?

My Sativa/Haze breeding project is right on schedule and doing well.
I just went through all the seedlings and wrote down what they are

Viet Black/Thai
Green Haze/Thai
CH13 Haze
Mango Haze
Mexican Oxaca
Double Thai
Nevilles Haze
Maui Wowi
Panama
Thunderbud Haze
The Real McCoy
Tikal
Royal Haze
Orange Crush/Mexican
Golden Tiger
SweetTooth
Sweet Haze
Super Silver Haze
Old Timer Haze
Dr. Grinspoon

Let Me know if theres a plant You would like to see and I will take pic for You.

How's it coming along? Find any nice males yet?

Has anyone tried re-creating haze? All the way back to the "said" crossing?

Dr Purp - I'd love to see your Oaxacan!

Ok Ill Have Bruno point it out to You. Its wet still from a Oyster water calcium foliar feed. The others are oldtimehaze , maui wowi, Man , now I forgot. The small stout one is Indica Dom. Its a cross I did with a Dynamite LA conf female, (which I keep) and pollen from a Maple Leaf male, whose sisters were off the hook, in both flavor, and instant headrush

I have a hard time uploading pics to MNS. I do have probably over 1000 pictures in my albums on IC Mag if You want to take a closer look at some of the plants in My breeding projects. My name is the same over there.

The trick to uploading pics here is to open numerous tabs and upload as many as possible at once. Otherwise it is incredibly onerous...

If one is searching for the origins of Haze, my take is that it was primarily built on a foundation of elite Mexican genetics with perhaps some subtle Columbian and Thai influences. This based on nothing more than the look the growth, but more than anything else the smell and taste and buzz of Haze vs. those old Mexican elites. To me the chemotypes are eerily similar.

Those highest quality Mexican varieties were variously marketed as AG or Oaxacan or Michoacan primarily but who knows their actual provenances. They were available in those areas of Mexico at the time but were never common anywhere. And who knows where the Mexican farmers got their genetic stock? I've heard Thailand postulated but high grade Mexican never tasted much like Thai to me. Hazes still carry the distinctive smell of '60s-'70s AG and elite Michoacan and to a lesser degree Oaxacan which was commonly a bit different with larger calyxes and a distinct balck pepper nose.

I have no idea where one would turn today to find the ancestors of those elite Mexican lines. They may still be grown locally but I'd be surprised if they haven't been supplanted by quicker maturing generic drug polyhybrids as I image the profit potential is much higher for those.

The pisser is I threw away thousands- shit tens of thousands- of those very seeds back then and so did everyone else.

As a prank, My buddies went in my parents back yard in 1973 and poured hundreds of Columbian Red seeds in My Moms planters and potted plants. They were 3 inches tall when I spotted them. I pulled out at least 100 columbian red plants out. There may have been some Thai as well

Tried Hawaii

Humble replier here. I would just like to say that in my teens we used to get these bags of huge reddish/brown/green nugs that were seedy as hell and were so compressed we would cut them with wire cutters. You could get a half ounce that was one single chunky nug. I live on the east coast US and we always figured it was coming from Mexico. Now we would smoke this shit and it was like drinking a case of Jolt Cola. The intense energy and sense of soaring euphoria it imparted was amazing. We'd smoke a fatty of this shit and build forts, get in rock wars, and just run amok for hours.

Today, I can get shit that is just the furriest sensemilla, totally manicured well and all crystally, and I smoke the stuff and become useless for at best and hour or two, lethargy, laziness, no motivation and all I want to do is eat junk food and watch a movie. I'd rather not smoke then fell this way.

Looking back over the years, and learning what i've learned I truly feel that we were getting Mexican Sativa brick weed that was ugly as sin, seedy, no crystals to the naked eye, probably smusshed when they compressed the stuff cuz the stuff did have a sheen to it. And If I could go back, I would smoke that stuff over the indoor that being grown around here today.

It was when I had learned about the differences in strains that I said, "oh that's the problem, I'm just a Sativa guy at heart!" lol

So I just wanted to tag a little history because i'm new here and list a couple basic things I want to experience after sitting back and smoking a fatty:

1. Soaring Euphoric Energy, a feeling of comfort and that all is right with the world.

2. We can't forget the giggles man. They say laughter is the best medicine, so weed should be medicine that makes you laugh. I haven't smoked anything they gave me the uncontrollable, hysterical, makes my belly and face hurt, gets everyone else in the room laughing for no reason kind of laughter in YEARS. Who's with me here? Who remembers that one? : )

3. Creative Insight. Stoners today are portrayed as brainless, burnt out simpletons. But i remember it was all about Jazz and art, and where life will take us in our futures. I mean we'd smoke a joint and have these "Imagine This" conversations that would exchange back and fourth until you would inevitably quiet down and say, "Dude, what time is it?' lol

So just my two sense. Im looking for a strain that does that all over again. If so i'll call it time machine cuz it takes me back lol!

ok, i'm rambling now....

Neville,

Is Hawaii a possibility? I lived there for a few years and if you turn over the right stone you can supposedly find some genetics that have been cultivated their since it was introduced. Their is a strain called Molokai that may be pure if not heavy Sativa. When I was on Over Grow there was a native cat willing to trade some seeds of a strain he said his grandfather and father had been cultivating on the island for both their whole lives. Sadly I never took him up on the offer but he posted plenty of pictures of their grown and they definitely looked Sativa. Needles to say I'm sure the is some very old genetics growing around those islands.

Good Luck!

I am humbled by that Lineup Dr. Purpur, killer indeed. I'm cracking some Oldtimers Haze indica pheno beans right now... not sure how they got indica phenos out of the oldtimers haze, but i dont know much about who made this cross or selection, etc..

I'm off to the site that shall not be named to check out your other galleries!

This isnt Haze, But its nice to look at, and soothing on the eyes. The color is natural, the plants were organicly fed. This is Old Grand Daddy Purple. Its a 707 clone from a Grower Buddy of mine in HoneyDew Cali.
