Grail: The Ultimate Haze Hybrid

Hi all,
The last reports Ive heard from those I consider reliable sources on Thai stick came from an area on the East coast well known as a port city in the mid '80s. Im sure other towns/cities with similar industrial complexes also regularly received shipments of a similar nature, and that even today certain varieties such as Colombian and other illegal contraband such as Cocaine, hashish etc. still make their way into the country via similar means.

Im not sure we will ever get to the bottom of the haze origins ultimately, but with Haze C and closely related varieties being maintained here at MNS we can at least have a glimpse of the past in our own grow rooms. Nevil's future project involving the Grail is clearly getting a lot of attention, as this thread is nearing the same number of views as threads which are standing on years of viewership here at the forum already lol.

Ive got a handful of haze hybrids waiting in the wings for me to work on in the very near future. Two of them are several years old, and all of them carrying a reputation for themselves that is tough for other lines to live up too. A friend and I were just having a conversation very recently about Haze being THE variety to work with in your gardens, and I have no doubt Nevil's the Grail is going to be in the same league as the big boys offered here at MNS.

I guess you are right Nev.
In fact at this point I would not be surpised to learn that even Sam do not know the exact ancestors of those batch of seeds. If the Hz existed under the form of several lines of hybrids and if the Hz brothers were really just growers making seeds for the next year from the late 60's, I doubt there was any pedigree tracking done back then.
Peace.
K.

it was a great question ,somthing i thought to ask nev aswell

what's very significant with SAMS haze stock and the details given by neville is in the first line below

If that's true, what would he know about seeds made by somebody else 2 years before he had even smoked the variety?
N.

the burning bush was an ancestor of the given haze stock and is a thai dom, exact quote from SAMS
Burning Bush was an Original Haze with a strong Thai influence

IMO sams knows abit more than he has shared but as nev said
Not everyone may share my views on disclosure, certain considerations come to mind.
N.

if you look into the actual reports of what lines were used in the OHAZE SAMS has said lumbos such as wackyweed/gold and as for his thai line its widely reported that its a sweet thai

soo im curious as to what taste/aromas come from the buddah thai neville refers to below

but my best bet is that the haze effect comes from a Buddha Thai. It's similar to the Thai I remember from the '70s

It seems like there was some Budda sticks in the early 70s in My area, maybe 1972. If I remember correctly they were thicker, spicier, bigger and better than Thai sticks,

This thread is absolutely amazing, and I want to thank all involved. Neville, u have earned insane amounts of respect from me, for your ideologues, plans and humbleness.

Ive been holding onto some Oldtimer haze x afghan seeds for some time. I was not around during the time the haze came on the scene, but I have done my best to educate myself and pick apart the bits of info that are out there.

The Oldtimer haze has infact come from ace/cannabio, and then fell into the hands of another breeder who is very passionate in preserving landrace genetics. This breeder crossed the OTH with the afghan male, which I believe was the best approach to preserving these seeds and obtaining future breeding stock.
After growing out a dozen of the oldtimer haze x afghan seeds, Im positive these are very close to the pure haze. Phenos flowering times ranged from 16-20+ weeks. Ive found green, silver, and purple phenos. The greener phenos had a strong smell of leather, and I found these to be favorable, and in my mind the closest to haze. The smoke is unlike anything I have ever had. Of all the plants, my ideal was a greenish silver pheno that went into early Jan. Leathery smell, and a buzz unlike anything I have ever smoked. Very speedy, euphoric, and in heavy doses psycedelic euphoria ive never experienced with any other plant.

I honestly believe you will find what u are looking for in these seeds, and im willing to do whatever I can to help.

Heres some pix I believe about mid flower. Not great pix, but I can smell the bud as soon as I take a glimpse :D

MID-Late flower (~Nov. 15 - Dec. 15)
This plant in picture was brought indoors to finish of course, and ran into jan. I know it was early jan, and it still didnt look near harvest, but it slowly dried up and died.. Some trichs had began to color but It didnt seem to wanna finish.

i appreciate you sharing you experience

ive asked many times for more info on the thai's of yesteryear i havnt came across much ,especially reguarding taste/aromas ,im quite happy to know there were spicy/dark/leather type thai's of yesteryear

ive always wanted to know if the incense trait was present in any thai of yesteryear?

as ive been told this by elmanito but havnt seen reports to prove this ,also ive asked hempy if his post was where he referred to the best thai he came across a while back in my SAMS thread was a reference to incense ,but we dont hav the best relations soo ive gotten no response

what i do findinteresting though is the fact hemp hold that pure thai line and many have shown in terest but only one person aside from myself has asked about taste/aromas or a smoke report which he hasnt given

below is a quote from nev reguarding thai im curious to know more about i believe this is in reference to lowland type but id lov some input,im curious if these traits were present in buddah thai ?

while HzA produced plants with a leathery smell, more reminisent of the old Thai's.
Complex liver/ leather smell is what I'm looking for in a good Thai descenant to cross with the Haze.

That fits the description for the Thai I bought in the late seventies as well.It had very little manicuring too.Big sections of colas and/or branches..STONEY,dark and golden in color(mostly dark brownish golden some green.Leathery and spicy smell and taste. It was also seeded. It was pretty fresh when I got it maybe a month to six weeks after packaging?

here we go.. lol Its all good Chris is just a hater that wishes hes had the chance to grow some of the genetics I have. I used to post at a different site a lot of the different varieties i have grown and an effort to share and learn. Chris was just a jealous individual and has never had anything positive to share. Im not bothered by him as I am here to lend my experiences and helping hand. Dont have time for online drama.. Im anxious to hear back from Neville

lets get back to topic

id love to hear more about the thai's of yesteryear

I wanna hear more about the Colombians used. Do we know where they came from? Were they from the skull and crossbones bails that were coming in at that time? I am curious if they were Pacific Colombian genetics. Those are very different from the Caribbean side.

I have a friend who did time in federal prison in the USA for smuggling cannabis(and cocaine) and was initially the transportation manager for the cannabis ops that the cartelos were using and shipping out of Barranquilla. He says that most of the Colombian in the USA came in from those sources. They were smuggling upwards of 50,000 kilos a month at the time. They were running 15,000 kilo loads on shrimpers and commercial fishing boats in the gulf. They then moved to large freighters that would allow the smaller boats to dock and move from vessel to vessel. The freighters had 50-100,000kilos on them. He says that the XXX and Coca-Cola were of similar quality but grown in different areas and had very different qualities. He says that most of the Skull and Crossbones was the Santa Marta gold that is grown in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The weed grown from the Darien south had a much more Panama Red high and wasn't as soaring as the Santa Marta. Due to this I think that the Haze Bros probably had the Santa Marta, but there have been more than one Colombian in their lines. The Alma Gold that was talked about on the Pot of Gold special over a decade ago is an IBL of the Skull and Crossbones Santa Marta Gold. It has been kept pure, and is very easy to get and quite cheap as it is usually processed into compressed bricks and usually is seeded. There are a few farmers who grow them from clones that they have kept, and they are very nice, but only phenotypical selections that are very common in the seeds. When grown indoors the plants tend to have a very stretchy appearance with popcorn cone shaped buds running the distance of the buds. They have red hairs with a leafy look that has trichomes to the tips of the leaves. It has a very spicy/sandalwoody/piney flavor.

hi guys! once i smoked a colombian strain called mango biche, it was a dark brick whit some seeds, cant remember the smell, but the high was somthing totaly diferent i mean, it was as if i was in a dream yo know those strong and strange felings that you only feel in dreams. then all that i look was so beautifull, i wanted to write the words i thought. the feeling of full hapines!, i never smoked anythig close to that, once i smoked some durban poison, that was very happy and very clear high but didnt had that magic felling of been conected whit somethig else, it was EXTREME PSICODELYC, POWERFULL, AND SPIRITUAL!.

i havent smoket any haze hibrid or any mr nice strain but have lot of mrn seed waiting to soon be poped (critical haze B2B neville skunk) hope to find somethig similar to that mango biche.

i think colombia is a good place to find potent a pure marihana.

excuse my bad english.

saludos!!

manga rosa

sativa colombiana's post re-sparked my interest in asking about the Brazilian Manga Rosa. it's supposedly very popular down in South America. like lots of varieties MR has more than one specific genetic strain base referred to as MR. supposedly it has one of the utmost spiritual highs available and smells like fresh mangoes. so how does Manga Rosa fit the bill per sativa colo's post as well as a possible role in the new holy grail quest? thanks.

I haven't grown them out indoors, but I have seen them done outdoors. Outdoors they can easily push 18ft+, but most will end up 12-15ft on average. There are some occasional crosses that show up and those tend to have a very hazy background. Those look like NL#5xHaze when I usually see them, as they are crosses with indica clone females usually. Indoor you may be able to do sea of green with the pure Sativas and get them to finish in 85-120 days, if you tied them down.
